the topic is a half-joke. it's not a real complaint but it is an observation that we can no longer use mounts in the endgame hub any more. it's not funny enough of a joke tho, as quite a few posters are taking it seriously.

Ironically that's likely why many people use it. because it's one of the few mounts that has a semblance of exclusivity and rarity to it...
if it went up on mogstation it'd soon dissapear never to be seen again just like virtually every other mount.
it's like primal mounts or anything similar for the first week or so they're cool and shiny. after that though there's so many of them around that it's not shiny anymore... just another piece of junk for the collection...
one of the main reasons i've never been to fussed by them... i still use my chocobo half the time.. old and boring as it may be
I largely ignore the mounts that people are riding. The reason is because there's no way to see what the mount they are riding is called, so it's too much of a pain to find info about the mount. And without having information about the mount -- to know how rare it is, or how hard it was to get, then where's the prestige in showing it off?
In WoW, you could look at the mount buff on a player to get the name of the mount they're riding, so you knew what it was they were on and you could easily look it up to learn more about it. Here, in this game, there's no way to do that; so I just don't care.
So many people complaining about blocked NPCs but target filters let you click right through them...
Diadem or Eureka now.
OP blame the people with the big whale mounts blocking key npcs and vendors. We did it to ourselves.
Relax. Pretty sure OP made this in jest, but to answer your question, ...just about everyhody. Well, at least subconsciously. The reason people like rare mounts is because they are hard to aquire and a lot of people don't have them. When they use the mount it makes them feel more unique which is pretty understandable. I mean, could it be argued theyre showing off? I mean, yeah I guess. But who wouldn't want to display a mount that they just spent weeks grinding for? Let's be real, you can't seriously sit here and tell me you'd still enjoy using a mount just as much if you saw literally everyone else riding it one day. The whole reason why people like rare things is so they can essentially show them off. I don't really think that's too narcissistic, I mean it's a mount in a game lol. Nothing wrong with being proud of yourself for getting something cool and rare. If youre upset by other people doing this, youre taking it too seriously lol.
If anything, you should be motivated to get them too when you see these awesome mounts. I know I was the first time I saw someone ride Blissful Kamuy back at SB's launch. I put all my focus towards getting that mount and eventually I did get it! So I actually kind of appreciate people for showing it off, if they hadn't I wouldnt have known about it. Imo that's the type of attitude you should have, not "Nobody cares about your stupid mount... :'(" Idk that just makes you kind of come across as a hater XD.
I do. Still rocking my fat chocbo ever since I bought the CE and I got screenshots where entire zones were filled with it. Do I like it less just because of that? No, I choose it because I love the way it looks not because it's something rare and shiny. I will never understand that some people need something to make them feel special.
Regarding the ShB hub I'm happy mounts are not allowed there. Therefore the amount of afk posers is a little lower compared to the other hubs which makes loading in the zone and getting to the vendors somewhat faster/smoother.
You're blowing this out of proportion...people don't "need a mount to make them feel special" why must you word it in such a snarky and unpleasant way? People simply just like to show off these they worked super hard for, whether it's a mount, or a new house (irl), or new shoes, or new artwork, etc. and there's nothing wrong with that (as long as they're not like forcing down your throats, so yeah blocking NPCs with mounts is a big no-no for me).
To give an example: one of my good friends/FC mates has the Ozma mount and everytime I see him he's always riding it. He put in a tremendous amount of effort to get it, and he's proud to show off his achievement, and I'm happy for him! I don't have that mount and I most likely never will lol, in fact, he's the only person I know that has it. There's no way Im gonna randomly go up to him and be like "Hey Alex, no one cares about your stupid mount."
First of all, that makes you seem extremely bitter and rude by trying to minimize someone's achievements. Secondly, it's untrue because I and many others do care! It's fricking awesome to such rare stuff in person, regardless of if it's mine or not. I mean, I'm assuming we're all adults here right?
I've seen everyone with Mameshiba (I use it) and Black Hayate lately.
I rather people show off minions and stuff so we can see their cute interactions
like those two for example.
I really can't say I give a rats bottom about someones golden shiny bird lol.
It's basic human nature to be competetive or to want to stand out. even on the most fundamental levels that you may not even be directly aware of. but subcosciously everythings a competition. or a coparison to other people.
it's like the neighbors syndrome. your neighbour gets a car thats newer than yours... you think about replacing yours... your neighbor gets new carpets suddenly yours are old and tatty....
in a bar with a bunch of friends you want to be the one the ladies look at..
in the gym and your best mate is lifting 115lbs. you're gonna try 120lb..
there's millions of examples of it and it's not really a bad thing it's one of humanities biggest motivators...
it's that competition that keeps you going. its why people who go to the gym with buddies or groups go a lot more than people who go alone and end up paying for memberships they never use... the motivator isn't there
even when people say they don't care what others have they often do, which is why there's frequents complaints and requests to get things added to the mogstation or whatever because someone has something they can't have and it ain't fair...
them not having it makes them feel inferior or a lesser being in comparison to others who do have...
thats generally why virtually nothing within this game holds any value even those shiny mounts you coughed up $40 for on the mogstation just sit there in your mount collection and almost never see the light of day... also why so many people get bored of the game so quickly because nothing they attain or accomplish holds any value or significance.
This thread raises an interesting question in my mind though.
I know for a FACT that the "hoofing it" debuff exists. It fires when you enter a certain dwarf house in Kholusa to forcefully dismount you in the confined space. Ergo, "no mount zones" can exist.
It begs to question why this hasn't been applied to certain areas where crowded mounts can be problematic to getting to an NPC.
I have never seen this. The closest I ever came to it was in Rhalgr's Reach at the DoH/L table during a DDOS attack when everything was taking forever to load. The NPCs eventually loaded even with masses of people, minions and mounts surrounding the table but that was the DDOS doing its thing, not the crowd. Heck, even at the songstress's concert with hundreds of people crammed in that small area around the quest giver NPC and merchant loaded in just fine. FFXIV loads things in a radius based on your location, so if you aren't seeing the NPC trying moving a bit. Pressing X also helps by getting rid of player names in addition to the player hitboxes which can obscure the NPC.
I'm sooooo glad there's no more places to "show off" our mounts, there's no point on that, want to show off?, there's at least 20 different maps to do that, let Elmore in peace without people standing on NPCs, Bells and stuff like that trying to "show off" their mounts by force to you as someone cares about it :3
EX trials may not be the hardest things in the game, but the difficulty and rewards are usually sufficient enough to encourage people to try them. If they want the mount for their collection and/or show offs, they need to earn them. Even if the fights are done unsynced, the players still need to adhere to completing the hard-hitting mechanics (Thordan EX and Sephirot EX come to mind.)
I still treasure and favor my Sophia EX mount a lot, even if plenty of others do get it unsynced for several reasons:
1. I earned it when it was synced.
2. Sophia EX was one of the first EX trials I took seriously and cleared often with pugs.
3. The color, aesthetics, light element, and model of the Sophic Lanner are very beautiful IMO.
Wait until the next Eureka zones. Then you can get your so-called validation.
I don't give a crap about the mounts you have acquired.
I'm glad they did this :) No more annoying ***** on they're whales on top of the tome gear guy
Just allowing it in the crystarium large plaza might be nice
