As I've already stated in this thread, it's going to require UI changes and there are other things with the UI I'd much rather see addressed.
Also, frankly, I'd much rather have an extra Mogstation outfit than more outfits for NPCs.

You keep saying implenting optional npc clothes would require UI changes. Except we already have stuff in the game about changing clothes in the bat of an eye: the glamour system.
They can just copy paste the interface and add the NPC models and boom, time saved if maybe a bit lazy.
The closest thing to a UI change would be new icons. We can already cycle through the available glamours they possess by just right clicking on their portrait in the trust UI and clicking glamour. Would it involve more doing that to cycle through all the ones you have unlocked? Yeah. Could they implement a quick drop down menu to do the job? Yeah, that is not very hard for them to do and could be implemented in a hotfix patch.
What actually requires a far more in depth rework of the Trust UI is the other suggestions floating around in other threads of implementing more Trust characters that can be unlocked through achievements. Like Ardbert's team for completing the Role Quests, re-unlocking Lyna and Crystal Exarch, unlocking various job NPCs and MSQ NPCs like Hilda, Yugiri, Hien, Gosetsu, Oboro, Curious Gorge, Leveva, etc. As reruns of a Trust dungeon are Lore ignoring anyways.
We can expect the Trust UI to be changed in the future anyways considering there is a chance they may introduce more Trust Companions in the future through MSQ or maybe Optional ones from Side-quest for trust.
Thus the UI will need to be changed to adjust to the additional Trust companions such as creating 3 Section for Tank, DPS, and Healer Role Trust Companions and adjusting the UI to split the MSQ dungeons between future expansions contents. Not to mention other possible updates to the Trust System they may have already planned but have not implamented yet since 5.0 Version is just the bare bone starter version of the Trust System.
Yup, this sounds like a Balmung suggestion. There's so much more they should be working on, cosmetics for something in very limited content probably isn't on their idea list.
I'd rather they expended the trust system more before trying to glamour them. This system could have so much potential if done right. Much like XI trust system, not so much in newer content but they'd sure be a welcome to old content that nobody touches anymore.
I discussed this a while back in another thread and the conclusion from that discussion is basically "up for debate" since we don't know if they may ever put effort into making Trust work for anything below 5.0 though is was mentione donce they have considered it as a possible future content but remember the words "possible". At this point we can discuss but it is most likely past the "asking for it" stage so we can only wait and see if they have a team working on it or not.
if they got it working as a future content then it would be a interesting system for New Game+ and new players. Along with a opportunity to introduce new Trust Optional companions in New Game+ for 2.0 to 4.55.
Rather biased comment against people in Balmung server considering this content is already implamented in Trust and they can choose to maybe add more as something they do on the side like they do with events and mogstation outfits.
I'll put hope on that "possible" even though I shouldn't when it comes to xiv and the many disappointments we've have faced since 1.0/2.0. Though I am happy that they will continue to use them for future content and they aren't just gonna go to waste like say the whole Grand Company system which in my opinion should just be scrapped at this point to free up resources for better content.
If we do see them extend into old content where it really needed, that would be great. Both new/old players can take on old content without having to gather people or sit in que for ages waiting on a pug group to form that may not.
Not many people touch 2.0 or HW primal's anymore other then for the weekly book. Even Stormblood primal's have died down a bit.
We'll see though!
Did you mean implemented with your 'squadron' and not 'trust'? You're the squad LEADER. You can tell them to wear goofy outfits. You're working together with the Scions, you're not giving them commands. Bad argument.
And so? More times than not, that I have seen, asking for something like this (Glamourable anything) DOES come from balmung players. There are MANY OTHER THINGS that could/should be done before anyone attempt this. Not everything has to be a dress up doll.
He means the reward for leveling the Trusts to 80 after you complete the MSQ which allows you to put them in their SB outfits. The entire idea of the thread is built around this. Even the suggestion for the outfits are all predicated on that the outfit would be designed with the character's personality in mind.
This is different from the Squadron system or the Custom Delivery system which gives you full ability to glam the character like a player.
Y'shtola wearing the Black Summmer set... SE, please, make it happen!!!
I agree, though even with just their pre-existing costumes there's potential for an extra set of outfits, since (except for Ryne) everyone has had two costume changes at this point.
I greatly doubt it. He'd just pick something beachy-but-not-swimwear and stay out of the water.
If they were going to do that for a joke, I'd expect it on Alphinaud who can't swim either.
Well there is a expect source for future alternate outfits for Trust Companions and that is the Expansions since SE has a tendency to introduce new outfits for the Scions for the Expansions.
I would not be surprised if Thancred gets a more unique outfit next expansion instead of the 6.0 Gunbreaker outfit. Any source beyond Expansions is really the only part up for debate.
Well bring this back up since finally got to lvl 80 for 3 of them and unlock their "Glamour" (yes they literally call the system for Trust's alternate outfits "Glamour")
Currently the Glamour system for Trust is a simple Right click and pick the "Glamour" button to change their outfits.
If they keep things this way then it will not require a full UI change since players just need to right click the Trust companion and pick the outfit they want to us but still future content may have Trust UI changed anyways due to possible future planned updates especially on Expansions and possibly introduction to more Trust Companions with new section for splitting MSQ dungeons between expansions as the MSQ progress thus require a full UI change to adjust to the new additions. Not to mention we can expect Guarantee new Alternate outfits per Expansion due to SE tendency to give the Scion's new outfits per expansion
Thancred needs his Nutkin outfit.
That is all.
After the awesomeness of 5.2, can we please have "Spoiler" outfit????
Every one of the Scions (save Alphinaud and Alisaie) use standard player bodies and animations just with custom faces/hair; with the possible exception in some cases of headgear, they can codewise wear anything a player can. Adding more outfits for everyone but the twins would be trivial; you'd just go 'hey, let them use this existing gear for glamour'.
The twins might take a bit more work, since I'd be shocked if most gear had a variant for the 'Elezen youth' body; players can't use it, so there's no reason for it. (Plus it seems that the twins share a body—along with every other Elezen child you ever encounter. If you examine the game's resources in a model view, I'm fairly sure difference in body shape between the twins is part of Alisaie's outfits, not the actual character model. Which means even if outfits might work on Alphinaud with minor tweaks, Alisaie would probably require custom ones.)
Shadowbringers shifted from giving them completely custom models to repurposing standard gear.
Alphinaud is now using gloves that look to be a scaled-down version of the adult Elezen model, and - while I haven't actually compared them side by side, I'm fairly sure it's changed the size of his hands as a result.
Alisaie is using a standard tunic now (plus the cuffs from her Stormblood coat which are probably part of the hand model). Presumably they just take the adult female version and shrink it down to fit, maybe with some tweaks but not building from scratch.
Still, even if it's technically simple, it may also be a character design thing - keeping them with one or two distinct recognisable outfits.
I read through the entire thread looking for this.
Glad to see I'm not the only one to immediately think of this...
I'm pretty sure Ryne's model is unique, as well.
Plus, giving Ryne a "swimsuit option", as per the suggestion in the original post, is just begging for another outraged forum thread. <_<;;
I'm pretty sure SE would want to limit Alisaie's clothing options, as well. While she DOES dress in girly clothes, they tend to dress her up in ways to promote the "Half-Identical Twins" trope, downplaying her feminine curves (which she may or may not have) so that she looks more like her brother.
I don't think the swimsuit thing would happen especially since Yoshi personally addressed people sexualizing her.
Besides, Ryne does have an alternate outfit now that I'd love for them to add to her by not only reaching level 80 like the others, but also completion of content involving the outfit to avoid spoilers.
Oh! That would definitely make it easier on the art department (at least potentially) than it would've been in Stormblood, then. In theory you could just repurpose any existing PC gear, then.
Mind you, I would love to see them do the reverse and give more NPC outfits to PCs; there's no reason I can see that Lyse's Ala Mhigan outfit—or Yotsuyu's outfits, for that matter—shouldn't codewise work on PCs, short of maybe needing racial variants for lalafell and such. Put 'em in the Mog Station if nothing else! (Look, I really want that Ala Mhigan outfit as dancer glam...)
You're actually probably right; I haven't dug into the ShB models, because when I was poking around curiously at the models and animations in the file I was still in late Stormblood content and I wanted to avoid spoilers, so stayed out of higher-numbered NPC models in the resources. I completely didn't think about Ryne in my summary there.
(Former game dev; I can't help myself, I have to poke at the engine of anything I'm playing just out of innate curiosity.)
Ryne seems to be using a scaled-down female Midlander model, judging from her emotes. (And I think her face might be based on an Au Ra model?)
And I don't feel like they've really followed the "half-identical twins" thing beyond their original outfits, and that they've never changed hairstyles to potentially look different.
