As a UI designer myself (though I work primarily in web page design) all of these special cases really bother me. We just keep getting more and more complex special cases; which in turn require more and more complex interfaces to support them. "You can set a regular home point, but also an Inn return point, but only on one at a time, and to return to one, select return, then where you want to return to...".
It's not a huge hassle by itself, but it's one of a growing number of little special cases that lead to top-heavy, unweildly UIs. Just look at our Attributes menu, with it's pages and pages of separate information for, frankly, not much correlated content. They could have made it so that you set the Inn as your home point and avoided the need to at least add another button, probably another entire menu.
To be fair to both sides, I do understand that they may have done this because of the way the "Return" system works; adding a new one may have just taken less time than reworking the current one. In which case, it can be streamlined easily in 2.0. I'm just starting to get more and more worried about the UI bloat we have been seeing recently. They did a good job cutting it down 3-4 patches ago, I just don't want to see them take three steps back now.
