I really so agree. I cant do this one, maybe Im a little slower than most, but I have been trying 7 days, several times a day. I am about to give up game, because Im not enjoying doing this

I didn't like this duty, but not really hate it either. The only thing irksome is using the duty action on the enemy as it is luck based since they move around a lot. You have to complete the long cast time and do the full animation while they are still standing there or it misses, not to mention be all up in their face. Finish the cast time and are in mid animation but they move? You miss, git gud scrub. It has a bit of luck to it and if you have bad luck you will hate this duty more. Honestly duties that hinge on 1 thing only that if failed will fail the duty no matter how perfectly you played otherwise are the ones I hate the most. The last 2 duties in Stormblood I would consider the worst offenders since they are 2 parts with full fights, I am glad I don't have to do them ever again.
If people are not able to complete a fight that is EASY but long, I do not want to imagine how it is to play with these people. The fight only needs a fix and is to increase the damage of Thancred
It was an easy fight, the mechanics are minimal and mostly just dodging with an almost absurd amount of time to do so. But....it was soooo booooring. It went on entirely too too long. When it came to fighting him again later as myself I didn't even want to do it.
I like these types of encounters, but by all the gods they just drag on too long for no reason at all. It was one of those things that makes a somewhat good and intriguing, bad guy, and makes them a nuisance
The role quests are bad too, but at least they were much shorter. What makes those worse is we are forced to play a dumbed down version of our own class in them.
I liked it as well, it would be nice tho if for future fights like this that they give us more than 4 buttons to push. It does get a bit stale mashing one button over and over again for 10-15 mins
I had fun with it.
The people that complain your role has changed strikes me as odd, since no matter what role might have been in play your goal was the same.
Of all the duties, this one is by far the worst and most boring. I keep failing - mostly because it's just the same mechanics over and over and I lose concentration. I fail to see the purpose of this. It's more like an endurance test than anything else.
I absolutely LOVED this fight. It's easily my favourite quest battle in the game. So much happened during it, so much character development right there in battle, it was amazing and so emotional. And the fight was fun to play, too. Sure, Thancred's combo doesn't do a ton of damage, but it's not like you have to slowly whittle down his whole health bar just with that. The special attacks that you get do a ton of damage, somewhere like 1/4 of his health bar iirc. Getting those hits in is exciting and speeds up the fight tremendously. It was so much fun. Please, SE, give us more of these kinds of meaningful battles.
There are people of all types that play FF14, some younger, older, disabled, etc etc etc. You say it is easy, maybe it is, yes, to you. Other people find it difficult, like myself, an older player. 'These people'? I cant imagine how it is to fight with someone that is quite so biased :)
Honestly, this one isn't the worst. It was a bit long. But the solo duties that are the worst are the ones where you have to redo parts of them if you screw up the second or third parts. Break them up or something.
I liked it and I had fun. :x
I could tell Thancred was giving his best and Ranjit was just not easily going down. If it was shorter, it would have seemed he got trashed too quickly or something. It's an RPG, no need to rush it.
If anything, it was dragging a bit. Could have been definitely shorter.
I think people are missing the point of this. Its so you see how Thancred feels and get an insight in his struggles not only with what can be a equivalent to a disability in that world but his feelings of loosing one out of two people.
Is it long and tedious...yes but i think its meant to feel that way so you feel the tiring pressure of Thancred fighting someone out of his level and putting everything on the line to protect his family (though the english translation does annoying change his pre battle lines to not fit this context) And its the use of the ammo minifillia made for him and the gamble of his life that pulls through.
Not every fight is a steam roll. Some fights are long tiring slogs that exhaust you physically and mentally and I think final did a good job showing that and how Thancred was willing to risk everything while suffering knowing he was going to forever loose either Minfillia or Minifillia.
I personally really enjoyed it; I find the Roleplaying Quests to be really cool. I enjoyed how Thancred's only aether power felt more and more like it was killing him and how Ran'jit eventually starts punishing you for doing it when he can see you. I'm going to agree with something that was brought up here, though: it definitely takes too long. I understand the reasoning for it (Ran'jit is a very beefy boy and fighting him, especially fighting him to a standstill, should be tough to do), but I think if he had a third less health than he currently does, the sequence would be dramatically improved.
The only problem I had with this and the similar role quests is I did not have an easy way to determine what all the skills were for. I was suddenly just thrust onto a new character with different skills and no way to pause and no actions screen to see what all the skills do, at least on PS4... And also the dialogue just flies by far to quickly, would really love a wait system or something just to be able to read the dialogue and learn what the skill buttons do.
I despise the role-play instances where I'm forced to play as a character with the rotation of a lvl 15 character. And to echo many posts in this thread they just take way too long.
This also goes on with the occasional instanced content where you play as your character vs a big bad npc like the Zenos fights in SB. I just love yawning through a non-threatning fight for 5 minutes for it to end with a dues ex machina of them winning the fight anyway despite never being in danger.
Just show it to me in a cutscenes instead of insulting me by wasting my time.
I liked it in general, also the simplified controls those duties had. Though the pace of that specific one was bad. It just felt too long and tedious. I liked the pace of the Y'shtola and Hien duties more.
I didn't like the Thancred quest nor any other duty where I was controlling a different character other than my own (like the one with Alphinaud in The Burn even though that was way easier than the Thancred one). I don't want to control other characters, I want to control MY character, the heroine of the story. I understand why they did it for narrative reasons but its like meh, I dont want to control different characters. Also, I play only healer and am somewhat comfortable with that; I don't know any of the skills or what they do for the other roles except for the ones I experimented with like RDM and even then I'm horrible at the other roles and would rather not be forced to play a role that I suck at.
I liked the duty quite a bit actually. I do get that they were going for a drawn out battle of attrition between powerful fighters thing. Still, a bit shorter, more intense battle could've been better. It could've been more difficult as well if it were shorter. Overall, I would like to see these kinds of duties continued in the future. As long as they are kept on the shorter and more challenging side. No more Alphinaud on The Burn please, that one was dreadful, (albeit narratively interesting enough).
I found it pretty fun but it certainly could have been shorter~
I am not enjoying the solo duties in Shadowbringers. And the length of them makes it worse. I'm completing them (usually after a fail), but just casting my vote AGAINST them in future patches/expansions - if it even makes any difference.
I had toggled off my pet hotbar (I think because it got in the way of my gathering) but because this duty was so tediously long, I literally had to quit because I couldn't stand having to manually click on the attacks. I had to look up how to re-enable my pet hotbar to properly use my keybind because the game forces you to slice up Ran'jit about a thousand times. This was an awful fight. Bullet sponges are not engaging.
I was able to manually click the attacks during the Y'shtola and Hien fight but Thancred either had the strength of a kitten or he was fighting the T-1000.
I hated this one too. It takes too long.
Eh, the only thing that bothered me about the duty is that it went on for too long.
Big agree on this, though. It's, what, five buttons? And only two of them are attack buttons? If anything, it's too oversimplified.
The beginning of the fight is pretty much the best time to try all of your buttons since nothing is happening. Thancred's got a regular combo, a gap closer, a damage increase, a defense buff, and a heal.
Should have just broken this weird recent tradition of 3 trials to the first MSQ storyline of an expac and just giving us a Ranjit trial, or dungeon.
It's boring and for KBM users outright frustrating.
It was alright, but the problem I had was the amount of skills we had to play with. Pressing the same buttons over and over isn't very intriguing, but at the same time, overcomplicating it would probably make it more difficult and tedious. It's hard to say, perhaps the "rotation" for the fight should haven't been reused so many times.
Only thing wrong with Thancred's duty is it does not do GNB justice.
It just needed less HP. You don't need the fight to go on for nearly 15 minutes to get the point they're trying to drive home.
I did this fight a couple of days ago with the new level system in place, and let tell you, it is a lifesaver. I failed it the first time at the very end, just could not heal myself anymore, and it gave me the difficulty window the next time I tried.
Not really caring about the difficulty of the msq stuff, I chose very easy. I will tell you, the fight was cut in half time wise. The bad guy had less health and Thancred took less damage. Also the time to transitions was shorter, (probably because of the health)
This new thing from SE for the solo duties is a godsend, and should make everyone frustrated by them much happier.
After you wipe , if you reenter without logging out, you should be given an option to adjust the difficulty.
On a side note, I did this for the 5.1 instance intentionally. SO and I queued in at same time, I got up to make a coffee after I engaged the adds while my SO played through. I came back to my corpse, restarted the instance on very easy and cleared before my SO was done. If there's an easy way to wipe in the first minute, I'm never doing a normal difficulty MSQ instance again.
I didn't have a problem with it. You are literally given infinite potions to heal with and making threats to quit over something so silly is honestly shocking. I personally enjoyed it. The BGM was perfect for the fight and I enjoyed experiencing gunbreaker as I went through the story as a black mage. "Black Mage"
I am not making threats to leave, just saying how this one is making me feel, and im not talking about thancred fight, im talking about the lvl 77 Feast of Lies in Eulamore. Nothing is silly in this game, when you are a little older, little slower, and frustrated!
