We Have Enough Short Skinny Characters

Community: “male viera or I quit”, “skinny hrothgar options”, “we need more big races”, “there are to many skinny races”

Developers: (hovers over deleting game button)

Lol you people need to chill out, but on the other hand this is what happens with limited customization buuttttt we can’t change that so let’s just chill out.

Ok...do the majority of you own mirrors? You all literally run around as short skin and bone pale as ghost avatars already. Nobody in the Roegadyn camp or the Hrothgar camp is calling for Fat Miqs or taller Lalas so...what gives?

Are we simply just not allowed to have big characters? Does everybody in this game have to fit to the typical generic stereotypical anime status quo of skinny, white, medium to small height, and have absolutely 0 imperfections including but not limited to muscles and fat?

The issue that I have with this mindset is that everyone just lacks imagination. Do we really want another Au Ra situation again? Au Ra's were the biggest letdowns due to fact that they are simply just Miqs with scales and pointy tales.

And I know what the purists are gonna say "well gameplay speaking giants obstruct blah blah blah" well you know what you got a freeform camera with a zoom in zoom out feature so how bout you actually use it for once instead of being zoomed in on your Miqs bottom like you are 95% of the time.

Let people who want giant races HAVE GIANT RACES. Dont just barge in on my and many others parades and be all like "Oh their to fat the muscles are ugly they to tall" cause quite frankly if we wanna play that game I can say the same thing to all the other races like the title of my post states.

While I somewhat agree with you OP, I can't help but feel a bit...offended. Geez. I spent three hours in the CC when making my Midlander and wasn't even aware that "skinny, white, medium to small height, and 0 imperfections" was a trend. I played around with all the options and ultimately chose what I liked best, and I also chose a somewhat 'normal' looking female because I figured everyone would be going out of their way to make their avatar as unhuman as possible (not choosing Hyur, grey/blue skin, tails, heterochromia in the eyes, etc.). Turns out I wasn't far off either as many characters fit the description I provided, but many fit yours as well.

Perhaps 'giant' is subjective. Compared to my Midlander, Highlander males, both tribes of Au Ra males, and all Roe men and women are significantly larger than I am. A case can also be made for the Elezen, Highlander females, and male Midlanders. While they are not as large as the others, they are still bigger than I am by a modest margin. The only two comparable avatars to me are both tribes of female Au Ra and Miqo'te. If there is a large imbalance to the size ratio, it definitely belongs to the Lalafells who have the fewest options of all and it is going to remain that way.

To add to the roster of large races, you're soon to get Hrothgar. Two tribes of them. We already know they are going to be comparable to Roes, albeit more beastly. So what exactly are you asking for? I believe Roes are the least played. Is it because there are fewer options for giant races, or is it simply most don't share your love for hulk-like characters? I can't say for sure, and perhaps if Roes don't disappear from the face of Hydaelyn once Hrothgar are here we'll have a better idea. What I do know is patronizing those of us who went the way of "generic stereotypical anime status" isn't going to bring you any closer to your desire becoming a reality. We like the way we look, and if you don't the exit door is on the left.

i think there's room for all types of bodysizes and shapes. but there's only really 1 or the other. wow does this very well as most races are rather distinct and unique in height and shape

Trolls technically have the option to stand upright too in the form of Zandalari Trolls. And they are quite tall as a result.

World of Warcraft while customizing your characters appearance is a touch on the outdated side it still has the most diversity and effort put into its overall designs.

For one thing you dont play as anime children which is always a plus.

You can choose to be young adults or grown adults something that typical MMOs never offer as JRPGs dont believe in playing as old people especially old men.

You have races of all types from Orcs to Dwarves to even unique races like Dranei and Taurens.

It's not generic bland copy paste anime tropes, rather creative expansions of traditional old school races we've been familiar with since the early days of gaming.

Multiple types of big bois, smol bois, and big and little lasses as well. Theres just something for everyone and them some.

No race feels one sided, every race is played equally and all offer unique experiences via story and questing.

And above all else, it's just nice to have an MMO that has more than just humans, elves, lolis, and playboy bunny/kitty which plagues 90% of mmos in general especially JRPGs.

FFXIV with the coming of the Hrothgar and their acknowledgment of wanting more beast races, they are starting to broaden their horizons and open their minds to races outside of the typical jrpg tropes and this makes me jump for joy.

See, WoW's advantage is that most of their races were already there from the start, plus their character models and armors are much more simplistic, so they don't need to make as much effort whenever a new race is introduced, unlike XIV where even minimum changes to the head or feet can mean significant extra time of work, as we've been told. (still wish Hrothgars could have beastly feet tho)

Also, Gemina, I think the reaction is due to the original backlash of people not wanting anything to do with 'big steroid bodies' - since we already have Roes - yet SE went with not-Ronso/Roe with a mask instead of the much desired bunny boys. While I agree bashing on people that favor the "generic waifu/boi" body is uncalled for, it's just as unfair to bash on people who want an out-of-the-box, decent bulky race, even if it isn't as popular.
This whole debacle is....a big chunk of emotional distress and misunderstandings that we need to accept at this point instead of being at each others throat tbh. SE can't make everyone happy, so they went for the most favorable route, and we should respect that decision.

I meant as in, WoW doesn't have to worry if any new race has a big belly, hooves for feet, or a tail, because all models are already prepared for it. XIV models are all essentially human with different proportions, so any race that has anything that's not part of a normal human anatomy would mean lots of re-coding. Case in point, Viera and Hrothgar

xiv's races were pretty much ff11 2: electric boogaloo. the miqote and roegadyn were locked in the same exact way as the mithra and galka. the only real difference between roegadyn and galka is that roes don't have tails

Between the males we have:
- Lalafell, warves height and potato build;
- Miqo'te, short but fit;
- Midlander, average height and body;
- Highlander: tall and muscly;
- Elezen: giant but thin (could consider them skinny)
- Roegadyn: giant and hulk build (could consider them bulky)
- Hrothgar: giant and beastly.

If they give character creation a pair of deeper sliders like height and weight it wouldn't take anything from you but it will give everyone more.

That said it's not going to happen and you could've answered in that same thread.

i feel like you're the only one who understood despite my english still developing, thank you, i never said i want hrothgar to be skinny or short just wanted an option to make all players enjoy this new race by putting the option to make them as short and tall as we pleases, since it's the last race we will ever get.

Call me selfish but looking at this chart, I hope viera and hrothgar are not the last race. I want FFXIV to have this much race.

I could go for this with female charactors as well. distinct lack of hips and thunder thighs and it disturbs me.

This is prejudice against short races. You REALLLY reached hard on this one elitist player. The only short males we have is the cat boy. Everyone is tall average height or a midget. Also, a human with cat ears IS not the same as a slim and trim lion guy like from ff10. No one is asking to remove the obesed beauty and the beast reject, they are asking for more variety and in an mmo that is never a bad thing.

It seems like you're the one being prejudice now. No need to be rude and insult other races just because they don't fit your liking.

More options are always good but this request for a different body type for the same race is not likely to happen. It's also costly and time consuming, which is currently not something the devs can afford. Not to mention that if a different body type came out for Hrothgar before male viera were added, I can guarantee there'd be a bloodbath all over the forums and reddit. So while the idea is nice, it's not currently within the realm of reality.

This plays into why they had to address children like classes, we all *knew* they didn't just mean seeing children in pain or agaony, they simply don't want to have children like models being sexually used. That being said, tiny little, pale, flat chested characters are just the closest to a pre pubescent child as you can get in this game, funny enough it's also the highest amount of character in this game. Its speaks volumes of the community that needed a letter from the developer to address the refusal to add children races for certain aspects.
It also speaks volumes of the community that runs around in a bikini basically on a 10 year olds body.

Technically the beast tribes are "normal people" they are just called beast tribes because they arent profitable by the syndicate. This is canon. So technically FF14 has a bunch of competant beast races. I just dont see people lining up to be ixal etc etc.

If I could be a beast tribe would be an Ananta or Gnath (though ugly little buggers I love their beast tribe story.

Roe: 213.5 - 230.4 range (gigantic, cupboard due its proportions)
Hrothgars: somewhere here, body proportions seem to be good except slouching back.
Au Ra: 203 - 217 range (gigantic, well proportioned except maybe hips)
Elezen: 194.1 - 209.8 range (very tall, can be considered more or less thin)
Hihglanders: 184.8 - 200.2 (very tall, bulky)
Midlanders: 168 - 182 range (average irl human height, average irl human build)
Miqo'te: 159.2 - 173.2 range (a little bit lower than average irl height, average athletic but not muscular build)
Lalafell: 86.9 - 97.0 range (short, plump)

Out of 7 (8 after 5.0 release) options there is 1 short and 2 are just normal. Only 1 thin option (not even thin really, they have some muscles too), 1 plump, everything else is from normal to bulky. We don't have enough short and thin... we have a lot of "big enough to make other options look like kids compare to them".

P.S. Should I mention that females have completely opposite problem with only 2 muscular options, 1 plump, 1 normal and 4 thin?

Most females look like little girls. I hate the female aura compared with the male ones.

consindering the only short option we have is lala or au ra female we need more shirt side.

you got roe,highland, au ra male, ronso, bunny as tall spices

and you got cats human as meduim races

I have to say.... I never looked at an male AuRa and thought they looked well built or muscular. I have to say I also looked at them and though "twink"

It probably has a LOT to do with just now slim waisted they are, and how they stand. They look like many guys I've known who are SUPER thin bug have a more broad rib cage, so their build, to me, looks really skinny. I think if their waist were a little less corseted, then people might not think of them as skinny or twinky. Doesn't have to be default, but even if as a character customization option, if you could make their wait more broad, it would fill the desire of some people to have more muscular character options.

OP nobody is asking for the Hrothgar to look like miqo'te.

Nobody.

And people say Roes are too bulky when talking about why they don't play the race.

If anything what I would want added to the game body type wise is something dwarf like. Shorter than a hyur but taller than a lalafel, and stocky rather than skinny or childlike.
