Id be up for more racial lock gear that actually represents the race in some way,
But these hempen sets are just so basic like "some" racial hair styles should have been unlocked from get go.

People also laughed at the individuals who got so uptight about it.
Still though. Funny that this argument didn't show up with the release of Stormblood and the influx of Asian-style clothing...
I support unlocking the hempen sets. I'd love for my Hyur alt to wear the Miqo'te hempen shirt paired with a shirt for a cute dress look (e.g., Miqo'te hempen top + Eastern Beauty's skirt makes for a really cute dress).
Oh I agree, it is funny. Same with the noble attire from ishgard, and the church garb.
If they are going to unlock racial gear, I'd prefer they add new racial sets as well. Give us a new set of RSE, like, a more advanced version or the starting clothes or a different take on them.
If it's who I'm thinking of, then that person is in the same category as that Shark Fin Soup guy as far as I'm concerned.
And yeah, I don't see any reason why the hempen styles (or certain hairstyles for that matter) should remain race locked. If they really want more things race locked, then add more racial based gear to please that crowd. But then again, I'm the guy who wants the Hyur thighboots/skirt/gloves for his catgirl.
I typically support exclusive sets of gear, even though it pains me sometimes (can't even begin tell you how badly I want my Midlander to be able to wear Miqo'te RSE). Admittedly I haven't had much of an issue with the hempen sets because the Midlander one is my favorite out of all of them. However, my support for exclusivity rallies behind keeping an identity intact such as job/gender/race, along with diversity within the game.
When it comes to hempen sets though there isn't a whole lot to keep intact, and the sets themselves are very diverse as is for the most part. It's just a hempen set. It just might snow in June this year folks because I actually support this unlock.
No thanks, I'd like to keep RSE, even if it's not technically RSE.
I'm in support of more RSE, not less!
Geez, a lot of people are against the Hempen Appearance being accessible to all races. Makes me wonder how those old threads got so many up votes. Guess times have changed? :(
Edit: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...pen-set-styles
Actually, it just seems like the players who did support it just don’t post anymore. That’s a shame.
Unlock, please. Signed!
I am for the hempen being unlocked, but it would be cool to see additional racial clothing released. After seeing how the 2 Au Ra clans dress/act their racial gear doesn't really reflect who they are. Heck, even the Miqo'te's gear doesn't make all that much sense either.
Count me in!
I like to see various race locked styles and I like that every race/gender has different outfits when they start, but thinking of it, it doesn't make much sense. Clothing can be made for lots of different bodies (I know it's a game and not RL).
I mean everyone can wear the 'typical' Au Ra tribe clothing: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/w/imag...nnered_Mol.png .
For example I really would like to wear the female Au Ra hempen, because I think it's really cute and even though I like the Miqo'te hempen, it sometimes is a to simple for my taste.
I would love to see the kitties using the hyur highlander hempen camise style hhehe
Support, unlock the different hempen styles for all races. Make them high level glam gear like raincoats or ruffled sets if need be. People need to stop going "MUH EXCLUSIVES!!!!!!!! RRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!" There is no significant story reason for hempen clothing to be racially locked. It really looks like it was an arbitrary design choice, maybe a leftover design choice from 1.0.
Just a glam unique to those races. Iconic means it identifies those races. That they were made this way makes it more than just another opinion. This was by design, not limitations. I don't know where you get "deep" out of this.
Like someone else said, where does it end? When are you going to want fake tails/ears/horns from the other races? How about the actual starting gear that's been used to represent those races in other games?
Races having their own flavour of gear isn't a bad thing.
Well for starters, let’s get rid of the term “gear”, as this is glam, not “gear”. There are plenty of things in this game that were intended by design, such as RNG in crafting, and more. But they can easily get changed if the community demands it to be changed, which, it seems to be headed in that direction.
Lastly, this is where it ends. It’s not practical nor logical to have this lvl 1 glam that’s been here for years to remain race locked for another 5 or 7 years. Also, “iconic” is the relating to or of the nature of an icon. Those glams themselves are an icon. The races themselves have more known emotes and animations than they do glam.
If you want that changed, start your own thread and see if it gets forwarded to Yoshida. Maybe you’ll get a response you want.
I want hempen racial gear to be unlocked for ALL races and hopefully genders too. I want my Au Ra to be able to wear the Miqo hempen top very bad. Please Yoshi!
I just want the female Midlander hempen outfit for all races, and with 2 new races coming we'll, I assume, get even more.
Why? Does calling it gear threaten your efforts to diminutize it? Everything you can wear is gear. Making your own definitions up doesn't change that. Games aren't design by the community, they just get to give feedback.
It's perfectly practical and logical to keep them unique as they are. Only those races can use them, any time you see them you know it's that race. It identifies them whether you like it or not.
Whoa whoa, no need to get hostile, lol. We as a community come up with our own jargon, and “gear” just simply isn’t the correct term to use for what you are describing. That would be glam/glamour items.
Also...no. Just no. If you can’t distinguish a particular race from another by simply looking at their proportions, that is more of a personal issue I believe. What distinguishes them is their race. Not clothing. That makes absolutely no sense.
You are ignoring the bigger picture here. It doesn’t matter what you personally want. It matters what the community wants as a whole. There are plenty of things in this game that shouldn’t have happened...that happened, because it was in demand.
Let’s say Yoshida answers this question, and says “We are working on this, please look forward to it!” All of what you said will now be irrelevant, because what was asked was in demand. If Yoshida says the complete opposite, all of what we said will be irrelevant.
Feedback works both ways. What YoshiP says has no bearing on what I have to say. I value there being race specific things and would even want more.
Practical? Those reasons that "But I could X IRL!" and other various examples of how it just doesn't make sense?
This is a game and this is a restriction creating racially specific gear.
Logically it's already serving it's purpose exactly as intended. Injecting the "but I don't think..." doesn't change that. Any degree of time that has passed doesn't either.
This can very easily be turned right back against you with the history of how much difficulty SE has doing anything that the work involved isn't practical or logical to them either. The new races are a prime example. They didn't feel tail holes were worth it either and now we have more than female miqo'te with a tail.
It is homogenization when it's unique to the race, this isn't bunny outfits.
You still haven't used the word practical correctly. Clothing can be altered to fit various size and shapes. Yes, "But I could X IRL!" and most other examples given do make sense.
Why though? Races already differentiate themselves with racial features. Clothing is not needed to tell races apart.
And you are still using the word logical incorrectly. You probably should stop using those words. They are not helping your argument when you can't use them correctly. Yes, it may be set to be race specific as intended, but then that may also just be a leftover from 1.0 days when Nobuaki Komoto ws director of FF14 and current FF14 team may not feel it is worth the resources needed to convert the gear for other races because demand isn't high enough yet.
People pay to play this game. If there is enough demand to warrant the cost and resources, I'm sure SE would make the change. It's the reason why some items are on the Mog Station now and why males can wear bunny outfits.
Talking about racial clothing only:
Current status: Only Hyur can wear A, only Miqo'te can wear B, only Lalafell can wear C, etc. Homogenized within the races.
More Homogenization: All races can only wear A. There are no other options.
Less Homogenization: Hyur can wear C top and B bottoms, Miqo'te can wear B top and A bottoms, etc.
Tell me again how more options equals more homogenization? Your mind must work some twisted and convoluted logic to come to that conclusion.
Your only argument so far I've see is "Gear is locked to race so it should stay locked as race only because thats the way I like it" and so we should keep the gear as is just because... Sorry, I and others do not accept such a weak argument.
As far as race-specific gear goes, I personally would only consider the starting garb to be actual racial gear. Those sets speak more to the personality of each race, hempen items are just the chonies. :X
+1
I want to use male Au ra hempen on my male Miqo'te
How real life works is irrelevant in a game, as is the work involved if it was a design decision. If you can't wrap your head around this don't attack me for misunderstanding a wrongly used term. They're not arguments.
I told you why. This is a game where mechanics work a certain way merely because someone said so to create an outcome. Racially specific gear. That's how they work, they don't need a publicly visible reason for why they did everything. Races largely share the same body within sexes with the only significant differences being the head and tails. Sizes are barely any different between races except for Roegadyn and Lalafell. Yes, and my opinion is that races should have more than just their body to differentiate them, even SE recognizes this as a valid point from the other thread. I also feel like there should be more restricted gear made. Work within the restrictions and make something better instead of pining over them.
They were already changed from 1.0 that had separated items for each, still racially locked, to the items we have now when they removed their slots to save space.
Majority of it has little to do with anything but how much money they can make off it. Numerous people also wanted more things added that were obtainable by playing the game instead of feeding the one way cash drain.
When everyone has everything, it's all the same. Restrictions serve a purpose, just because you don't like it doesn't make it arbitrary.
"MUH UNLOCKED HEMPEN!!!!!!!! RRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!"
You're welcome to keep getting offended that I don't share your opinion. Nobody needs or cares about yours or others acceptance. Try not to fall off that ivory pillar.
@Tiraelina
Well, let’s just agree to disagree. With the amount of up votes this thread is getting, I would say it’s a pretty good chance that this will get answered by Yoshida soon. As for Yoshida’s answer? Who knows. He could say yes, he could say no.
As I said previously, we can disagree with each other in a civil manner, not in such a hostile and/or passive aggressive tone. You don’t have to sound so salty. It’s just glam. If it’s unlocked, it’s unlocked. If it isn’t, it isn’t.
The only thing that is locked is the outward appearance which concerning recently SE has put a few of the male tops on different races than what their tops would show. I want to say there's even a non Elezen npc that is wearing the female Elezen top. So, they can obviously separate the outward appearance from the races if they want to.
I would like a male tank top. Thought I found one but it was just a hempen top, and it looks like a damn harness on me.
WHY!?
Full agree. This said, I would be glad they drop the lock for all races start stuffs.
Everyone, attention everyone. Do we have the large amount of support along with an ingredient called thread activity? We do? Great! Time to start the “Community Rep Response” ritual.
*does creepy chanting for hours*
