Voting no doesn't matter, as you found out.

Yes it does, because if the other person (other than the instigator and target of the kick) also votes no, then the vote fails.
What else are you going to do? Abstain? Vote yes?
Once the kick has been proposed, voting 'no' is the only input someone has.
They're not at fault for not preventing the situation - and if the other DPS was siding with the tank, their hypothetical attempt to kick the tank would have failed anyway.
I've only been kicked once because I had the most unfortunate luck getting into a premade of edgelords RP-ing in Castrum during MSQ roulette and I had all the aggro (healer) all the time and none of the tanks were actually tanking. More or less using DPS combos and not a single CD was popped.
I brought up, "Hey, guess I'm the tank now because I keep all the aggro." Then by Livia, kicked.
It doesn't happen often as the forum community would lead you to believe, but it can happen for the dumbest of reasons. Stories are told for le drama. Then the problem looks bigger than it is.
I've been playing for years and I've never been in a group where someone was kicked for any reason other than being offline or AFK. In the case of underperforming, most people just vote abandon, which has been pretty common lately in Orbonne...
I would have to say yeah that tends to be the experience I have witnessed myself. There have been times I've practicaly been floored when I havent been vote kicked Currently suck on BLM but I am constantly improving and have never died to the same mech twice. I strive to do the best in every class I level to 70. people can be genuinely patient in this game especially when you apologise for bringing the suck to the party
That's really not it.
When there's a group of 3 premade farming for ucob gear on Swallows compass its not that unusual to kick if they see you greed/need on gear.
It just depends on what content you run and with who.
I mean just notice that everyone here has a different concept on who to kick should say enough that there'snt real standard. Just some that are more pro about kicking someone and less that doesn't bother. I'm on the latter one. You won't see them again and everyone is paying the sub like you do, no point in ruin their game unless they're ruining your. And no being a "noob" its not ruining your game, ofc unless they're i45 at lv53 dungeons.
I've only been kicked once, over not buffing a DRG who was demanding my AST cards. Me being stubborn, I proceeded to place all buffs on the other dps.
Generally I dont kick people. I leave the group if something is bothering me that much.
Believe it or not I have been kicked many of times. No, not saying anything won't stop you from getting kicked either, if you step on the toes (literally) of the wrong person. Generally if there is a vote kick everyone will agree to kick even if they don't know who or why they are getting kicked. That's just how it is, if you think most people actually think about why, or "is this deserved?" they don't.
If someone tries to tell me what to do in-game or armchair me I will aggressively tell them off in chat "I do what I want". If I get kicked I get kicked, I don't care about your feelings. I'll just requeue on my tank and get an instant queue right away. Don't take no poop.
