I'll say it's because of how close the drag in effect is to the end of the cast time, and how if you start doing it on the wrong rhythm you end up getting one shot.
It's not hard, just being careless gets you killed.
I got frustrated after dying twice to this. The third time, I just sat there and watched her cast timer. When her cast was about up, I warped to the monolith and continued running forward behind it. That did the trick.
I'm pretty sure I was using the same pillar as Noctis btw.
Honestly, I couldn't figure it out. I got the Echo after 3 attempts or so (for those who barely survived it after a few tries, that's why) and downed it easily from there with a Second Wind and Bloodbath.
Sort of wish I didn't get Echo and could down it properly :p My theories would be either:
-Warp just before the cast bar finishes
-Opposite pillar of Noctis as mentioned
Yeah, I wiped twice to it too. First time I tried to warp at the very last draw-in pulse but took full damage. Second time I tried to warp spam and still took full damage. Third time I tried to repeat my first tactic. Since I now knew when the last pulse appeared, I timed the warp at the exact moment it happened. Took 0 damage (with Manawall) so I assume I did it as intended and the timing is simply somewhat strict (at 220ms at least). I was expecting it to work like Deathgazer's attack but it seems quite different.
You can right click the Echo buff away in case you weren't aware.
First time I did it, I warped in loop when it keep pulling you back.
Teleported exactly at the same time as Noctis on the last pull, was way away from the boss, almost got one shot. Proceed to raise an eyebrow and wonder why the hell SE keep making mechanics like that when they're fully aware the latency of their game is so bad you have to be out of any aoe 2 seconds before it goes off if you want to have chance to get the server to register your position outside of the aoe.
I was PLD on my second character and expected this BS to happen again so I used tempered will halfway through the cast and it worked. So I'm assuming any skills that prevent being pushed or pulled can help here.
i was on brd when i did this i failed 1st time but cleared the 2nd time, i failed due to miss timing warp strike due to being a UK residence on the american servers i have 170+ ping once i adjusted to warp strike as i got pulled in i cleared fine , the only thing SE could do is upon activating warp strike have your character register by the boulder everything else is on the player to sort out just keep trying until you learn timing of it.
Went in as DRK, failed because Noct died. Went in as WHM to throw a heal at him, got the succ. However, this issue seems to be from the mechanics not working like Stone Vigil boss where just being behind the rock is enough to stop pulling you in. That's how I failed it. Not everyone waits till the last second for a cast bar which is what some players are going for.
However, given my latency, I always run when I see a cast bar because I know by the time it gets halfway, I'll be hit in whatever it is. I've done it multiple times on multiple characters now, and really, the micro seems to be the major difficulty.
Dunno, I had problems with SAM, so I switched over to SCH, then it worked out.
Died on the first time due to bad timing with warping out for the big aoe. Tried it again, acted like a tank keeping the aoes away from noct and had no issues whatsoever.
Ended up doing it as a SAM for the record.
This is overtuned, I feel, but after failing on bard, scholar and rdm because I couldn't dps and heal or keep Noctis alive, I facerolled it with summoner.
Diamondback works wonders for ignoring those insta death things if you decide to go as Blu
Yeah, I didn't even know Noctis could die, was too busy focusing on myself and cleared it fine as a Bard, so couldn't have healed Noctis anyway had I needed to.
It took me two attempts.
On my second attempt i barely survived.
IF you can't see aoes, check your battle effect settings, maybe enable them all for a while in case this is affecting you.
If noctis keeps dying, remember that you are the tank and you have to face Garuda away from him or he's gonna eat any aoe aimed at you, he will dodge the bigger aoes himself.
For the pull in, even if you can't see the aoe just get ready to warp to the furthest rock when the cast bar is around 90% full, then warp back to garuda to perform a link strike, link strikes are what make the fight go much faster.
The Echo mechanics are in place i noticed, so if people do have issues with it; as i did a couple times just with terrible timing, the Echo handicap will kick in.
So as it may not be the most graceful of mechanics, it's still a really fun fight to watch once you get to a certain point. :)
The Car makes it all worth it. All in all i enjoyed it.
I did it as RDM & succeeded on my third go. It seemed all about timing. If you have latency, you'll have to factor that in. I did do my best to make sure to turn Garuda away from Noct, so he wouldn't get hit by AOEs. I did have to contend with not seeing a cast bar at all during the fight (aside from my own). And if the big one-shot aoe that sucks you in has a ground marker, I didn't see it. But I did put a marker on Noct & warped to him near the end of the cast. But do keep trying OP.
I was able to complete without trouble by warping away from her right after each draw in. I didn't pay attention whether or not Noctis went to the same pillar.
Noctis didn't seem to take much damage during the fight. I was careful to stack with him when he got the stack marker and point the boss away from him otherwise.
If you're talking about microburst, it's actually prox-based damage Did it on both my main and alt. I was halfway in between boss and monolith and lost half of my hp on my main, and when I was close to the monolith on my alt, I only took 100 damage when the attack went off, and I was acutally used Warp strike the second I see a pull back animation taking effect..
Wiped once to the big insta-kill AoE she pulls you in for about halfway. I figured you just have to keep using the Duty action to jump out after every pull-in. The problem is her last pull-in was like a moment or two right before the cast bar fills-up. So I literally warped out after she pulled me in the final time and I still died warping behind the pillar no less. What I ended up doing the 2nd time was literally spamming the warp action to the point where she could never pull me into the center because I would warp back to the pillar about halfway during the draw-in effect. Seems to have worked, because the 1 hit kill didn't touch me the 2nd time around.
I did it as my blue mage.
mighty guard and diamond back through it and lived.
white wind also heals noct up back to full health if needed.
was extremely easy as blue mage I felt
I cheesed it a bit with going to WAR and used holmgang on the monolith, can't pull you back with that. Been very laggy recently on top of my high ping so after failing it with BRD I just went full cheese
You can fail this fight? It seemed really straight forward. I just fought Garuda where she stood on RDM. When she did her AoE, just turned my camera 180, warp strike the monolith, AoE goes off, warp strike back, get link bonus from Noctis and repeat 'til dead. Didn't go behind the rock or anything - AoE doesn't reach if you don't have her in the middle. Didn't face her away from Noctis; didn't heal him. Warped out of the draw-in attack immediately after it happened with no issues.
It seems that the pillar directly across from her is "supposed" to be your default option as a player. I didn't even notice Noctis could block you from taking a monolith (that or you simply can't use the same one if he just warped; it looked like I warped well ahead of him).
I'm assuming the mechanic that is killing ppl is the halfway point in the fight where she does all the draw-in effects and you have to warp to the monolith on the last one.
Completed this on my main and 4 alts so far, 5 characters.
Main took 2 tries, alt#1 took 1 try, alt#2 took 3 tries, alt#3 took 1 try and alt#4 took 1 try as well.
Think I got it figured out now. You DO NOT need to warp strike to the monolith between each draw-in effect. What I do instead is simply walk towards my monolith. I do this so that I can still use the visual queue of the draw-in effect. There are 6 total pulses of draw-in. On the 6th pulse, as soon as I see my character start to slide back towards her I hit Warp Strike, while continuing to hold in the direction towards the monolith." As soon as my character gets to the monolith, they then pass through it to be considered behind it and guarded against the attack.
Sadly it seems like there is something pretty iffy with the timing/latency going on there with the draw-in attack, if you don't time your warp-out there right... insta-death unless you cheese it on tank/BLU. I have done it by now on 6 characters, experimented around, and even by timing things EXACTLY the same way... sometimes I cleared it at first try, but also had a record of 5 fails already due to one-shot mechanic getting screwed by latency issues from what I can tell. Which leaves a bit of a bad aftertaste, to have "latency lottery" in this otherwise really fun event/fight, sometimes being forced to "fail your way to success" (via echo). But oh well... we know FFXIV has horrible latency issues, and some fights become ridiculously bad thanks to that unless you sit on a very fast and stable ping ^^;
Wait. It's not just a meme that people are having problems with this fight?
I had zero trouble at all :V
Not sure about everyone else, but found for when she spams her draw in while casting her big aoe, if your rhythm is of off with the frequency of the draw ins you'll just basically stay stuck in the middle. Waited till a draw in had just finished and was able to teleport away and each cd after kept teleporting away.
Found the fight rather easy, only having to heal noct a few times because I didn't position Garuda away from Noct.
Just go tank and pop cds on Microburst. It does laughable damage.
Tip: The timing for avoiding Microbust is similar to the timing you're (supposed to be) using to avoid Mistral Shriek and do a Link Strike with Noctis.
I'm not terribly surprised people are having issues timing the Warp out of Microburst, but I'm finding the number of people who said Noctis barely survived our outright died to be a little disconcerting. Were you people just peppering him in the face with AoE and not stacking on him when you were supposed to?
