Then this must be a case of the Mandela effect because apparently many people seem to have a memory of this happening
Hm..fair point honestly

Yes, you are correct. It was announced shortly after the SB classes (RDM & SAM) were released. They promised a tank and healer in the next expansion. The person you quoted wouldn't know that though since they've only been playing since June of 2018.
This whole thread is an insult against those who don't share the same opinion as the OP. Am I the only one.....
Oh you mean genuinely happy to look down on people with differing opinions? Yeah i guess you're right.
FYI: This is "Flower", I am posting on my bf's account due to a silly post limit.....
Btw, I am not outraged or taking out frustrations because I'm "unhappy" with DNC. I'm quite excited to play it. I guess it's hard to believe that someone actually values the opinions of others.
Or maybe people actually remember something like that happening. You don't have to go into the realm of absurdity to lash out at people who recall something.
Ok, so that did happen. Because if it didn't. It would be strange to have a memory of talking to a friend about said situation. Speaking about at least they were saying we're getting a healer next time but the wait for the next expansion is going to feel like forever.
I can't imagine a dancer as ranged dps. As melee ok, i can get behind that.
The part that made me laugh about this decision is that we actually should get another healer instead of a dps, but whatever SE.
No, definitely not the only one, OP. There were a TON of people campaigning on Reddit for DNC to be DPS.
I've always wanted Dancer as a NIN replacement, but this is pretty good too. Sucks healers don't get anything, but I didn't want Dancer being a healer.
I'm a little bit sad that it's not a healer, but at the same time I don't mind that it's a Ranged DPS (Ranged DPS are my favorite kind of DPS class in this game so yay). I'll just wait and see ;D
The outfit though! Oh My Gosh, I LOVED it. I really hope that's the lvl 80 quest outfit for Dancer :3
And who knows, they might surprise us and release a healer in the middle of the xpac. Perhaps they already have ideas for one, and just don't want to say anything yet because it's still being worked on. And maybe this is wishful thinking. But my point is, don't let the lack of a new healer class at this moment get you down :)
I was really hoping for DNC to be healer since I think it'd be one of the few jobs that would be fitting to have unique mechanics (physical healer).
But the disappointment is not just because it's a DPS but because there's nothing for healers except what literally every other job will have (skill revamps, new skills--the other jobs get these too).
Even though I primarily heal now, I started this game as a Bard so I'm actually looking forward to this!
I'm excited for dancer, its the only thing keeping my spirits up for this expac right now after the genderlock news.
I do think that having yet another DPS is going to be bad for que times so my guess is that the Trust system is going to be their answer to that. As a player who enjoys soloing more than partying, I am okay with that but I can't see it being healthy for a game that promotes and thrives on group play.
Dancer should of been a healer. SE should add a healer of some kind.
I'm so happy about it. Being a BRD/DNC is my dream since I started FFXIV and it won' t even be that hard of a change between them because it will a ranged DpS too.
My hype for Shadowbringer is now at its peak and nothing will stop it until they announced the next relic will be in Eureka 5.0.
I will say the DNC reveal personally left me wanting to play it more then the gun breaker reveal, and I am mostly a tank player. Looking forward to learning more about the job.
I will say I was shocked it was not a healer, but another physical ranged support job was needed since they have been without a new job for just as long. So it makes sense.
It looks great, and honestly RDPS suits the job better than healer, especially considering 1) I can think of more options for potential healers than I can rdps, and 2) it's very similar to bard in other iterations (party buffs). It's just overshadowed by the absence of a healer altogether, Dancer or otherwise. Which I totally get the disappointment for. That said it does look extremely cool with unique animations, and they apparently get a variety of throwing weapons to glam / equip which is fantastic. I'm sure we'll get the much-speculated bladed fans.
I am excited for Dancer also as another Physical Ranged DPS was much needed. Additionally it seems a very interesting concept when tied to the Throwing Weapons as opposed to a fixed single weapon.
I think Dancer as a DPS makes more sense, a part as a support (Bard plays music for morale, Dancer dances), and throwing things from the distance as an attack looks more logical than as a healing method.
They might had make Dancer a healer and also look OK, I don't know.
I expected maybe Necromancer, but Summoner and Black Mage already are on that path.
I don't think it is necessary to have more and more jobs and races, but maybe it is another way to make the game evolve and not get stagnated.
Another job more to level up and learn how to play at least in a basic way. More entertainment.
Healing and having instant effect has that magic component that is covered by the healers we already have. I would imagine a Medic. Somebody is attacked by a Disembowel, the Medic comes with "Sew and stitch", partly cured, then some "Recovery pill" with a Regen effect. A "Recovery gas bomb" with a Heal over Time AoE, "Paralizing injection" attack, "Sleep gas" AoE, "Sleeping pill" attack, "Poison dart" ranged attack, "Poison gas" AoE, "Maddening dart", a lot of possibilities.
I'm cool with Dancer. It's not a problem that it's not a healer, just sucks that there's no healer for the expansion at all.
Dancer as rDPS makes sense for the job as we know it. Lends to it being a very support-oriented DPS, and having various kinds of throwing weapons leaves room for different kinds of weapons the job is known for. Chakrams, knives, maybe even fans.
I was excited even when it was expected to be healer but since it's dps I've moved way past excited and moved on to Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I am really happy its a ranged DPS sad for those who want healer but I never heal much but I would have had a go if it had of been the opposite. I am glad though I am so excited.
I am excited for it and looking forward to playing it. It does suck that healer mains won't get a new toy, but I think SE may feel designing and balancing both a tank and healer for the same expansion is a bit much. Dps is easy to do compared to the other two roles. I think we will start to see expansions that will have a tank or healer paired up with a dps.
I love healing the most and I'm sure I'd have enjoyed another healing class, but I also think that it being a DPS class is super cool. (It also suits my future dancer's charisma more than if it had been a healer, so I'm extra cool with it, haha).
In any case, I know some people wanted it to be a healer and some people wanted it to be a DPS class, so someone was going to be disappointed either way. I'm sure the class will be enjoyable regardless.
I was hoping for it to be a healer but my hopes and dreams were not invested and hinging on that so I'm totally excited to be throwing chakram and dancing while kicking ass! My only gripe is why does it have to be dps/support? I imagine it's some design plan for physical ranged dps to all be support as well over in SE HQ while magic ranged dps get to mainly focus on dmg but it is what it is.
We already have salt mage in game. That's every healer.
I admit I'm really sad we didn't get another healer, but DNC reminds me of BRD which I enjoy a lot and I level everything anyways. I'll probably enjoy it.
But I'm still empathic to everyone that wanted a healer.
You can be excited about DNC without being condescending to the people that are upset right now.
I was initially disappointed, but I got over it really fast.
- I'd rather heal all the new gunbreakers as a SCH anyway as it's what I'm most comfortable with.
- Chakrams are baller as hell.
- Bard was our only non-caster ranged DPS, putting the Dancer next to the Bard just fits.
- I was sold when I saw the Dancer's movements and realized it would look just as badass on my Fem Roe.
So no salt here. I've adapted and am ready to go.
I thought the reveal looked great. I was Dancer main in XI, and always loved the job as a sub too. Cannot wait to see how it gets implemented here, but it looked really good in the vid. AND THAT OUTFIT !!!! Except the shoes...pointy toes, a bit tragic. Anyway I think it will be fun :)
I had been hoping that Dancer would be a melee healer. Another ranged (normal) healer would have been of little interest to me, so I don't mind all that much that Dancer is ranged DPS. Remains to be seen how gameplay is.
I am not going to be excited in advance - that usually only leads to disappointment.
Dancer being DPS is disappointing to me, not because it's Dancer, but because we needed a new healing job, not another DPS. Six years is a long wait for people to get a chance at a job in their preferred role.
I was a dancer in XI I liked the support aspect, I am really happy with the look and I feel that Dancer in XIV works as a dps. I do feel for those who wanted healer but I guess they made their choice and I am happy dancer was not made into a healer for the sake of it.
I'm fine with dancer being ranged DPS, although I do think the shadowbringers class should have been a healer. When DPS so dramatically outnumbers healing and tanks it effects queues and all. This is kind of a question of whether you're looking at subtypes of say, DPS or looking at the role functions. Ranged DPS was due for a new thing without question, but in terms of how jobs are organized I think healer might have had a bigger and more positive impact. Overall ambivalent but hopeful about the next healer class, because dancer imo wouldn't have made much sense as a healer.
All of this said. Consider parties that feature a bard and a dancer. We get music and a show haha.
As a bard main, I'm looking forward to it! I was definitely hoping it'd be a healer, but I was just as happy to see it was a ranged DPS. Much needed, and it looks like it'd be a lot of fun.
*(Laughs)*
Yep... pure, unadulterated...
I might actually play Dancer now that it’s a DPS. Just... Poor healer mains..
It'll probably be super neatorino, broskis.
