For the most part, I play a male char, and while I've had a few times where folks hit on him, it's rare (and usually done in a non-aggressive manner).

So, yeah. I can absolutely understand trying to put anything you can into search boxes to at least attempt to forestall that sort of thing. If you're offended at seeing those sorts of messages, then

1) Why? Are you looking at search messages in an attempt to find something that "I'm not single" would disagree with? It's an MMO, not a dating sim/dating site.
2) Are you jealous? That's hardly their fault.
3) Are you offended on principle? That one's easy. Mind your own business.

I never knew just being a girl in an mmo could get you so much attention. I might end up playing an f Viera if we don't get m Viera, so I better prepare myself for all these potential suitors. Thanks for the heads-up.

As someone that met their GF over this game, this kind of stuff is something that only people who are insecure do. A girl with a good head on her shoulders isn't bothered by the fact that her BF doesn't reference her in his search comment and vice versa, If you are bothered by this it sounds like you have some trust issues that you need to work out between the two of you. I highly doubt this "hypothetical" BF that doesn't display their relationship status as their search comment is having issues beating off the swooning ladies because they think his virtual avatar looks cute.

Now that i think about it, this is a pretty odd and specific scenario. Either that or im getting trolled and in that case. Touche.

So while I do say I am the in game property of my ex (this was more because we do pretty much everything together, and we're going through the Ceremony of Eternal Bonding), I have a friend who's been with her partner for over a year and they both have FFXIV, and she has nothing about it in her search comment, and I can tell you their relationship is legit. So no, it doesn't need to be there. I put it in because I thought it cute, but not everyone wants to and that's A-OK in my book.
