I agree with this.
Though I think Merciful Eyes is quite useful sometimes when I have aggro, it still is niche and rather them take out the whole Third eyes and its branches for better stuff we actually use more than a few times.

Seigan is really too weak to keep and hardly boosts your dps and rather get rid of it, TP won't be a thing anymore so they may turn invigorate into a aggro dump, so Merciful eyes also becomes useless.

3rd eye is real good and would be good even if merciful/seigan weren't attached to it. Saves my life all the time.

If that's true, I'd rather they give us a bunch of traits instead of a ton of new skills. I literally use every skill we have some more often than others, but use them just the same.

It could just be me coming from the position of being a career Monk and having a ton of skills that are so Niche that you're lucky to use them in one or two fights an entire expansion, but Samurai's niche actions really aren't all that niche. You can use Third Eye in basically every fight, and indeed you're rewarded for doing so with a buff to your DPS or by increasing Tank DPS by cutting your aggro if its too high. It's not like, say, Riddle of Earth, whose requirements for use is phases where the boss jumps and does an AOE within 16 seconds, while also requiring them to come back in a timely fashion and not stun you for 15 seconds making the whole thing moot or One-Ilm Punch, whose niche is...there isn't one, it's worthless.

The fact of the matter is, Samurai is pretty much the single the best designed job in Stormblood. It's kit is practically flawless, with so little clutter that the only skills that you might consider cutting from it are ones that you can elect to use a dozen or more times a fight to push your DPS That much higher. My biggest fear for Samurai in Shadowbringers is that they'll ruin that by introducing some gimmick that interrupts the more or less perfect flow the job has.

I'd probably put Dragoon as the best designed melee. With the only "Niche" skill in their kit being Elusive Jump because there are situations where you can't just jump backwards all willy nilly (But outside of those situations, it's still decent for mobility and enmity reduction and you can cut its travel distance short via using Spineshatter/Dragonfire to reposition back onto the target all within an oGCD weave)

Samurai has Yaten that has similar drawbacks to Elusive Jump (Can't use it if jumping backwards is dangerous), Third Eye itself is niche (Since on its own, it's merely a 5% DR for one skill) with also Merciful Eyes being niche too (I mean... Why can't Third Eye itself just give the Merciful Eyes effect too, so it heals and reduces enmity at the cost of only 1 button instead of 2?) and Seigan is also niche because it's such a small DPS gain to actually use it.

Monk has some poor skills for sure though... Arm of the Destroyer, Mantra, One Ilm Punch, Purification, Riddle of Earth (Which wouldn't be as bad if it actually did what its tooltip said, which is to do the Greased Lightning refresh on cast rather than only upon gaining Earth's Reply after being hit >.>) are all pretty niche... One could also argue about Fists of Wind given that its use is almost entirely predicated on the fact that Shoulder Tackle arbitrarily upgrades into a Greased Lightning granting form only in FoW)

Though, Ninja isn't in a bad state either, their only niche skills are Hide and Hyoton (A ninjutsu that thus takes up no button real estate to exist). Arguably Shade Shift too.

As it stands, Monk is by far the worst offender for niche/bad skills (As well as some clunky mechanics). Though it doesn't excuse the fact that SAM does have several skills which are decidedly low impact and niche in when they're actually useful. Which as I mentioned previously, given that SE want to keep to a specific number of skills available to classes, comes at odds with better and more useful skills in their stead.
