The biggest problem with this classes' concept is it overlaps with pre-existing classes in two major ways. A heavy gunner is inherently similar to Black Mage in some ways, and Machinist in others. Black Mage mechanically speaking is the 'turret mage', boasting hard hitting heavy nuke spells with slow cast times that force them to stay still in order to use them, something a Heay gunner would likely have. Machinist, on the other hand, is the go-to all around Gunner of this game. They're going to get all the military tech. And that theming is far more important, as it kills the potential of this class coming out anytime soon. There are other potential classes that already exist in the FF series as a whole with unique concepts and theming behind them, and they have little to no overlap with any current classes. If SE wants to add another ranged DPS, those are simply more likely. And to be frank, they ought to be.
That said, your hopes aren't completely dashed. I'd recommend to instead ask SE to implement more heavy attacks into the MCH rotation that fit this mould. Perhaps as a way to make Gauss Barrel or the turrets more interesting. It can't be the whole kit, but it can certainly be a part of it. Again, look at Satellite Beam, their Limit Break 3. SE gave them Flamethrower this expansion, so I can absolutely see them getting more abilities to expand their arsenal, including heavy weaponry. Machinist literally can be tweaked to do this, and 5.0 is an ideal time to do so, given how people see the current MCH, it's honestly warranted to change it up too.
