Gunbreaker weapon size is pathetic

You should keep in mind the various weights of objects attached. The ff8 gunblades were rather simple, a revolver and some type of blade, the one in the trailer has quit a bit more attached to it which would make it a heavier object and thus necessitate a shorter more compact form to be able to move effectively.

Just like the forums to complain before something is out..
I am sure there will be other gunblades that you could them glam

Sword handle on the miquote side is way closer to the face in comparison to the squall image.

I actually really like the design of the gunblade. It makes me hyped for what the Relic or even Primal weapons might look like. I wonder if we will get 4.0 Primal / Raid / Dungeon weapons. I can't remember if SAM / RDM got ARR ones or not, but I think they did.

I like the size myself, I don't want them to be DRK sword size etc.

The sword itself is at roughly the same angle, unlike your choice in comparison shots. The only difference being that the miqote's head is lined up over the revolver portion not the blade portion. Both blades are roughly 4-5 heads in length.

It's probably meant to be used in one hand for quick slashes, as opposed to Squall who uses it with 2 hands.

We got the ARR primal weapons for SAM/RDM. I'm actually trying to get all of the Primal SAM weapons on one of my alts with varying successes (Mainly due taking as much sweet time as possible).

Likely all the post-ARR primal weapons, so I wouldn't be expecting Ifrit's gunblade or any of the Coil crafted options.

Samurai and Red Mage got primal weapons from ARR and Heavensward, but not raid weapons from them as far as I know.

I'm not sure about Coil but RDM and SAM do have Alex weapons (all 3 tiers).

And yes, most likely since the job starts at 60, we're getting gunblade variants for everything except old relics (old relic tiers are never retroactively updated) in the 60-80 content range. Since there is no MSQ lockout, people who haven't already, will be able to play all the way through Stormblood as GUN so they need to have access to the starting, levelling and end-game weapon tiers for SB's level range. But I doubt they'll be covering any weapons within the 1-59 range, just like there are no sub-50 weapons for SAM and RDM and no sub-30 for MCH, DRK and AST.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gunbreaker doesn't get a weapon based on any of the ARR sets (Coil, crafted Primal glamours, etc) considering they start at level 60, which'll be a shame. I hope these can still be included even if they are literally only for glamour.

I remember way back when the Stormblood jobs were revealed, he said something along the line of 'every new jobs will get primal weapons, but for raid weapons, they will only get those that were in previous expansion'.

So far this holds true (DRK,MCH, and AST got every primal weapons, and all coils weapons. SAM and RDM got all primal weapons, and all Alexander raids weapons. Dreadwrym weapons, which weren't implemented at launch, was an exception because they had to make Ultimate coil version anyway)

Though whether it stays true into 5.0 or not remains to be seen.

While this is true for FF8, in Dissidia squall used his gunblade with only 1 hand.

It's almost like the game might have multiple gunblades with different lengths... Hmm...

It's also a different gunblade than the one Squall is using.

The one he is using is one of the digital bonuses that comes with the Collector's Edition versions, and as far as I know we've not yet seen a character in FFXIV with that equipped. Maybe try waiting to see if the actual Squall gunblade is appropriately sized before bemoaning a non-issue like this?

Look at Ninja's weapons. Like any other weapon, they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. There's some really tiny daggers there and some that aren't daggers at all. Some at a size you might expect to see on a Paladin. Hell before Ninja came out, Paladins had daggers available to them.

The minor size difference might have something to do with that not being Revolver, the gunblade that's iconic for Squall, which we will get as a Collector's Edition reward anyway, so people who want to fangasm over Squall by all means can (we have the outfit too). But not even Squall's gun blades are all the same size.

While i don't approve of us getting another sword user... and i dislike guns the only expection being Vincent in ff7 shapeshifter.

However bigger is always better... and size does matter

Because we have way to many swords in game but its 2 late so it doesnt matter

We got sam,red,drk,plly, technicaly nin uses shortsword kinda, and now gunsword lol. I knew it was going 2 happan eventually since the entire army of the empire uses them.

But i don't approve because a large part of are weapon choice is sword big sword small sword, sword that becomes a staff, a sword that is also a gun. Then you got a sword and shield. So srry i disapprove of us getting a new sword for a long time... atleast for 6 expansions.

We need more piercer , chopper,smash weapon types.

Yes, because AST's globes are totally realistic in every sense of the word. Or using a book/tome. Or palming two bladed weapons for fisticuffs, and somehow don't break your wrists after every fight. Really, the list goes on about realism in this game...

I hope (and I think that'll be the case) that they got all primal. They are very cool. For the raid, I hope they get at least the dreadwyrm because UCOB, and Alex Gunblade seems so logical and fitting I don't imagine them not making it.

For relics, as always, only the 5.0. One day maybe they'll add old relic for new jobs. Let me dream.

Game isn't out yet and surprise surprise someone is complaining about the size of a single weapon.

It's less the weapon size for me than what animations the weapon size and apparent weight makes possible compared to other iterations or even just the trailer. The strikes in the trailer are all deliberate, precise, and smooth in the power. Instead we get weapon-flailing.

Showing off weapon smaller than it is originally in other games make me thinking that they are showing us the "best of the best", because what sense would it make if they will show us a weapon on low lvl?
The fact is, this weapon does not fit the original concept of gunblade being big and bulky one and a half hander, it is the length of the paladin sword.
And yes size does matter, i dont imagine a tank with one handed weapon only.

you do know there are a lot of swords types.

ninja uses daggers (not technically swords) red mage uses a rapier a fencing weapon that is notable for it's PIERCING, Samurai uses a katana which differs highly then a standard sword, paladin uses the standard western sword with cross guard, and dark knight uses a two handed (notable two handed sword being the zweihander) which again differs from a normal sword.

sword on a stick, swords strapped to your wrists,a bent out of shape sword on a stick (literal lore for war relic) little swords shot from a bow, even smaller metal swords from a gun that is shaped like a sword, have you ever had a paper cut its like a thin sword for astros Black and white mage shoot magic in the shape of swords if they wanted, Summoner and scholar write with a sword dipped in ink cullanarians use swords to make food!

gun blade offers a different verity of a weapon, to dismiss it for something else being similar is a small part daft, as long as it's fighting style is unique and it stands out amongst a crowed then it's welcome in my eyes.

The teaser trailer clearly shows Tancred using a gunblade that is closer to the size and design of squall's. While this is a cg trailer, it can give us some insight into the variety of gunblades that will be available to us.

Well, Thancred was using the same Gunblade. But this thread should have already been buried when it got a shot on page 4 or so of a different angle of the Gunblade, and it turned out to not be so tiny. It's a 1-handed weapon similar to a Paladin's sword in size (probably with similar variations in size). This topic really doesn't have a reason to continue anymore. :/

This is true i just feel like since we got only 2 swords in stormblood that they shouldn't add another sword nxt expansion we literally shoulda got another axe weilder or hammer type

I can see from your profile and your posts that you're a new player thus, I shall try to explain as best as I can.

In 2010 when Legatus Gaius Van Baelsar was finally revealed to us in the final MSQ missions (I believe it would have been in Mission number 46 "Future's Perfect") he unleashed the Gunblade and single-handedly fought against four of the scions. You can watch the relevant scene HERE

At the time, that cutscene was one of the most memorable events of the game. You must understand that prior to this, the only time we players had seen the Gunblade was in FFXIII (with Lightning), FFVIII (with Squall) and in FFXII with Gilgamesh. The next element to note was that for every additional job that was introduced into this game, it had to adhere seamlessly into the lore fabric of FFXIV while also integrating itself with the expansion. For example, the Samurai job class was critical to the traditional culture of Kugane and Ninja gave us an insight into Doma before Stormblood was released... and so on and so forth.

Gunblade on the other hand is an extremely important core weapon-issue for officers of the Garlean empire that effortlessly ties itself into the upcoming lore for Shadowbringers... for everyone who understands the lore, its a no brainer. In addition, for non-citizens (or newly minted citizens) to be granted a Gunblade is an honor and also underlines the technological prowess of the empire... refer to Fordola. Not to mention, that weapon was how the Garlean's compensated for their lack of aetherial manipulation ability (or lack of being able to wield magic); hence, you will notice that there are various variations of the weapon... for reference, look at Nael's gunhalberd, Livia's gunbaghnakhs and Rhitahtyn's gunshields.

The chopper, smash weapon that you wish for therefore seems out of place for the FFXIV lore unless of course you were referring to some of the other Garlean weapons I mentioned above (ibid). If you're still disapprove of the Gunblade and would rather view something made of... "smash"... then refer to something like Nero's Mjolnir (see below).

I very much doubt he would approve of it to be implemented though... it's unique to Nero, plus he's not very good at sharing and exists solely in his own universe.

A longsword.... And then you attach the firing mechanism and magazine to be able to use it as a gun.
Such a weapon would be too heavy to use one-handed. A longsword by itself is at the upper end of what can be practically used onehanded in combat.

Of course I do not think such a minor thing as realism will stop the designers. since the game is already full of oversized weapons that would be unusable in real life. One could almost think the characters are trying compensating for something....

Gunblades are indeed smoll, so smoll and looks comically on bulky races like hothgar. :p

So yea it turns out pretty much all gun blades thus far are just shortswords :c
