I don't mind the 5x5 bag, but it would be nice to have an all-in-one option to display bag items in one window.

They have also mentioned that we will have a "mannequin" system so that our gear sets are stored on those instead of taking up inventories for the jobs we are using, how many I don't remember if they specified, but if it's more then 2 it shouldn't be too bad. The only real problem you will have then is narrowing down which job set mannequins you would have prepared.
Another sorting function? Hmm...
I think it would be nice to have an optimal gear sort that works based on the current job. I like to switch it up now and then depending on the situation, but hunting things down is a pain. If it turns out you can have multiple mannequins for each class, though, then I guess it wouldn't be entirely imperative.
Hmm, I just imagined Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail in how she equips her gear by summoning it from a pocket dimension.
Neat.

100 slots each chars * 8 chars on the same server = 800 slots thanks mail system.
And don't forget possible new storage options. With 2.0 or short after we get housing and I hope we have wardrobes, weapon cabinets, shelves for our crafting mats and other furniture there.
The inventar should only be for the items we would need during our fights, not be our storage.
And that would be fine, as long as there isn't 10 second delay for each item you want to move over.
A shared bank between characters would be nice.
Okay so far as I understand; there will only be 100 slots of inventory space we can utilize, and from reading on further, there will also be a mannequin system in place for gear. Depending on how this mannequin system works and how many jobs worth of gear that can be stored; this may just work. As it stands now, I have around 60 - 80 pieces of gear I carry around at a time. That covers all my crafts and gathering classes and the gear for BLM, PLD, and BRD. If I were to level up the rest of my class of DOM and DOW that would push me well over 100 pieces of gear. I believe that if they gave us a mannequin for each class; all 18 of them, then we shouldn't have a problem with our inventory space. It would be nice if someone could verify this mannequin system everyone speaks about, because as of now I only know this to be hear say. Any Dev care to verify this info?
Please give us multiple auto sorting features. I can't stand bag system in wow. It is way too hard to keep track of your inventory.
Could you find Okipuit's quote, please?
According to this PDF that is, admittedly, outdated they will not take up inventory space. However, if at a point after it they have mentioned that it in fact will, then I have to go to the thread about the 2.0 promises and mention the update there.
The 5x5 bag thing isn't exactly a new development. We've seen it since the first 2.0 concept screenshot:

The bottom right shows 7 5x5 bags. They've talked about how the different colored dots represent different types of items. Seven 5x5 bags along with mannequins seems like it'd be more than enough. Obviously that stuff is subject to change but for the people who think we'll just have one 5x5 bag, I think you can assume we'll have a few more than that.
What is the overall purpose of 5x5 bags as opposed to say just expanding the current tabs in the inventory to cover things like "weapons" "rings" etc etc (which would be more in tune with FF). Is it an indication that one or more of these bags will be lootable if we die in pve or most likely pvp like some other mmos?
In this screen we see four 5*5 bags and a "U" bag. I wounder what the U is.

I echo the concerns of the people who prefer having all their stuff in a single, sortable list. Having everything in seperate bags sounds kind of annoying, to be honest. I hope that there will still be functionality for just using a simple inventory list.
Not at all, you can put food and potions in bag 1, crafting mats in bag 2, Materia in bag 3, it actually provides much better customisation and sorting options.
Anyone who has played WoW or any other modern MMO knows how easy it is to use multiple bags, that being said in those games you can open all 5 bags at once, hopefully this game allows that also.
Exactly, reading through the thread it only seems logical that you would be able to specify what type of item goes into each bag and even specify whether drops are allowed to go into a bag or not. The long list of items we currently have is a bit annoying. Breaking it up into smaller more organized bags would be much better and easier to deal with in the long run.
I would like to be able to give or select a title for a bag based on the contents of the bag. So I could name a bag say, "Weaver's Bag" and have all my weaving supplies in that bag.
One other thing I was thinking to help with inventory would be to make the Crafting guilds actually useful places to go to and craft. Perhaps a guild banking system where you could deposit materials specific to that craft. So based on my level as a Weaver I would get "X" number of slots in the Weaver's Guild bank.
