Loyalty Test

I've played Rift and Starwars since the release of FFXIV. I cancelled my subs to both those games. It's funny, XIV lacks many basic aspects from content to design. But it still has something that neither Rift or SWtor has. Maybe it's the hope for ver 2.0
but what really makes me like XIV over those other games is: character design, animation, and the lore.

one thing that many eastern studios have over western studios is character design and animation. especailly in MMOs.

started off as Name but if it was a different name since it's still Square-Enix (Japan) I would of still would of paid close attention and if it was interesting most likely would of tried it.

Now, I'm staying not only because it's Square-Enix title but as a guy who dreamed of wanting to become a game programmer, I want to see what Yoshi's team delivers with this game which was known as the worst game, want to see how much of a programmer YoshiP and his team is and how much they can really REBIRTH FFXIV.

Are you loyal to the game?

I'm very loyal to the game, i'm not hardcore as i was in FFXI but i'm very loyal in this game and 2.0 has something for me to look forward to

I can't say i am loyal to the game because i'm more of a pre FF7 player, after that it's been cutscene city with these Final fantasy, i think my XI experience is the reason why i stick to this game.

Game would have shut down if it wasn't "Final Fantasy" by "Square Enix". With tons of SE Corporate money and all that rides on a main-series FF title, SE simply had to keep the game afloat.

If anything, that's the only thing that's kept me around, so I guess you would say the name. If it wasn't FF by SE and rather Pathetic New IP Launch by Random Company, I probably would have been long gone (but we wouldn't have had a choice anyway, because the game likely would have ceased to exist).

Name or would have been gone a long time ago. That said, if [generic MMO title] was undergoing the changes XIV is currently (and had plans similar to 2.0), I would for sure revisit it.

If anything I've learned from ffxiv... and other games SE has touched/published (like dungeon siege III... which blows btw as multiplayer is pretty pointless, and supreme commander 2.. killed both series with those) is that they have lost touch with what's good.

Yes, being a publisher doesn't mean they developed the games but if it says SE anywhere its probably not going to be anywhere near as good as you think..

And that sucks, but oh well.

To answer the question when I started playing this game it was a FF game in name only. Its become more playable over the last year in large part because it is closer to becoming a FF title. I'm not sure at this point the two can really be separated. This is a FF game, and its the FF in the game that keeps me playing.

Only other SE game franchise I have played is Valkyrie Profile, and while I love the visual designs in the game it wasn't as good as FF storywise.

Well, i'm loyal to SE...even though they've been tripping on their own ego these days, if a game is made by them it's enough for me to give it a try...pretty much the same feeling i have regarding nintendo. I give their games a try regardless of game name, even tho if it's a known brand like FF or Zelda it does potentially can be a better game than a random-named game.

ffxiv or gtfo, only reason im still playing it and not star wars

It's pretty safe to say that people who are still here like the game, however, if it wasn't published and promoted by square enix or carried the final fantasy name, not as many people would have noticed or known about it.

For me, my loyalty was more based on the fact that Akihiko Matsui got the lead combat designer job. I was really into XI and his work on ToAU and WotG's BCNMs and stuff was wtf awesome. Out of all the expansions, to me ToAU and WotG had the more entertaining, frustrating, and fun fights. (I won't forget Lancelord Gaheel Ja or Amnaf in a hurry, let alone Besieged or Campaign.)

My loyalty was totally won by the new team. Akihiko Yoshida on concept art is also a very, very good thing (as you can tell with the 2.0 information.)

...That, and XI's no fun any longer. I have no reason to stay there now I've completed the four expansions. I can't be bothered with the mini-expansions or Abyssea and severely need something to play. XIV works for that, because there's a chance the classes I love will eventually be included.

it's unfortunately true.

The SE name force does not carry enough weight alone. Games like Parasite Eve, Bushido Blade, Saga Frontier, Vagrant Story, the Bouncer, the Last Remnant, and Nier do not push the sales a numbered FF title can.

Even for Koei, they adjusted the name of Gundam Musou to Dynasty Warriors: Gundam and it outsold other games with the Gundam name.

The single identity does all. The graphics. The level of communication that opened up amongst dev, cm, and populace. It touched me *censored for inappropriate and dangerously sexy talk*

Honestly the name for me, but it because of what the name means.

While XI was never WoW popular it had something in it that made people stay with it, made you get on to play it everyday. The people you meet ment something to you where in other mmo they where tools to get from point A to B. The community mattered, the economy simply worked, you literally had more valid content then WoW ,TOR, and RIFT combined at Xi's peak.

Final Fantasy is also SE's biggest global IP, which gives it the title as too important to fail more or less. Which is why they dumping millions more into a currently failed mmo, to bring it up to par. a FF game is not something that can simply not fail for the company so the chances of the screwing it up again are fairly low... it would cost them alot more then the dev cost if the game completely tanks.

So for me it is the name, and the company. I personally hate the current game due to how broke things are and how limited the content is but love what I see coming up. I really love how this is not a solo focused mmo which everyone else is doing. XIV is possibly the last of the true group focused mmorpgs, and that means something to me.

A company that made one of the best mmos ever developed, the best rpg series in the world, and a company that is willing to spend millions to fix it regardless of what the press thinks. That is why I stay with it. With all those elements together and more or less the same dev team, it has to eventually get good. And 2.0 for me look like a real mmo worthy of the FF title. Only time will tell now though.

Aargh! I admit, even Omega Odyssey flew over my head. The first thing I was thinking was the canceled Ambrosia Odyssey from Square-Enix. What will they think of next? The Last Story?

Second one, thought of Everquest for PS2.

When I first started it was because that I loved FF11, but the reason I stayed was because of the Square Enix name behind it.
That's right it was not the Final Fantasy name, but the square Enix name that kept me.

Its no suprise to anyone here that I played the crap out of FFXI, and while I certainly played some of the other numbered titles, I never touched any sequals, spinoffs (EXCEPT FOR TACTICS! :p), or dozens of other games with the FF name. I essentially only ever played 7,8,10,11,12,and 13 (heh "ONLY"). I would say that list is probably in line with what many other players of XIV have played, but I certainly had this game in my sites since its announcment.

All that being said, I can't put to word exactly why I play, but ol' Biggs has a short tale that sums it up. I have been smacking into starwars for the past few weeks as a means of distracting myself from waiting on XIV, and it has easily been almost 2 months since playing for any longer than it takes to log on, do a guild supply quest or 2, and log off. Today I jumped on, threw on the ol' fishin hat, and took the airship to Gridania for some fishing. As I approached a remote dock that extended into the small lake just NE of Camp Tranquil and threw out my lure, the absolute beauty of that spot struck me. The casting animation combined with the fireflies over the water and the sounds of the Black Shroud at night blended perfectly with the background music there. And it was then I still realized how freakin awsome this game can make you feel. I didn't want to be anywhere else in the game but right there fishing. After having not played for almost 2 full months in earnest, I smacked into fishing that spot for 3 hours. It was awsome. The fact that the game can do that, without any "action", or a large group of friends needed (although always welcome) is the reason I stay. It still has a lot of potential, even with all the problems.

I would of never came back to XIV had it not been for the information of the new dev team and 2.0. While I will be the first one to say the game is not that great in its' current state, it's not too costly to enjoy it a few hours a day in hopes that 2.0 will turn it around, and i'll be a bit ahead of the average croud if it gets big.

Although, if 2.0 doesn't turn the game around fast, my brand loyalty can only indure so much of a beating. I haven't enjoyed an FF title the same since X and XI. XI may of not ever been popular, for obvious reasons, combat wasn't one of its' strong points. But, it did provide an old school feel which at the time, I enjoyed. And X was the last great Final Fantasy in my eyes. XII was 'ok', good story, decent gameplay... XIII/XIII-2 was all about gameplay and lacked a lot the reasons I buy FF titles. JRPG's aren't really evolving much, and haven't for a while. So, while my loyalty is the reason why I'm here now, it could also be the reason why I wont be, if things continue to go south. Because my loyalty is to the original Square quality that I know and love.

The first time I visited Gridania I thought I might just retire there. I still sometimes sit outside the Leatherworker's guild in a small patch of flowers -- chatting with friends while watching the light change as it filters through the trees, the water flow by as it churns the watermill, listening to the unseen birds chirping away in the trees, and enjoying how the butterflies give way to fireflies at night... it really is a beautiful world that SE has created.

Sometimes it's nice to take a break from doing the primal battles and grinding this or that, while still being immersed in this fantasy world.


I never played any other Final Fantasy title so I don't have any attachment to the name or the company.

I continue to play FFXIV because of the game itself and the people I have befriended there.

Both. Yes. About 25%.

Basically, I prefer to play 1 game a lot than many of them a little.

Once FFXIV was only known as Code: Rapture ... I was still wanting to play it

The developer and the quality is what would have and does truly matter to me, because it gives me a track record and a standard.

i remind myself of why play this by visiting the 2.0 site.

I play hoping that it can exceed the joy FF11 brought me and my friends for years :-D

I hope the Dev Team has taken notice of this thread.

The common theme here is that many believe in the Final Fantasy name, but that belief could be shattered if 2.0 is not executed well and falls below expectations. Both loyal and new players alike are holding out for you to give them a game that blends new and nostalgia in a way that upholds the traditions of FF while paving the way to be the premier MMO in todays market.
