Half of it is Viera, hence I said begin from the middle, but I agree, those are probably children. Nonetheless, they could, if they so wanted, split the race along such lines, with a design emulating that for the smaller one.

I just want the option for a tall male Viera regardless - not interested in a midget or a concept reversal of au ra being executed on them.

Lore-wise, not through natural means no. They are essentially unable to use aether in the way that most other races can, hence why they simply can't teleport from place to place the way an Eorzean might, and so forth. In a pastebin a couple weeks back, he added "look at my avatar" in regards to the two races. That avatar being a lion and a rabbit. It's led some speculation around Ronso being a new race, though I still have my doubts we'll see two.

Let me guess you didn't like that part of XII where you find out that there are male Viera but they're shorter and were like male mithra in XI where they played the role most women do? Or do you just not like short men? As someone else pointed out all but two races already have what you're looking for unless you're that into rabbits. Just trying to understand why you want Amazonian rabbit dudes.

Moombas and Shumis are the next races.

I'm not expecting any new races as Yoshi has said that anything really different besides the current humanoids will require updating over 5,000 assets related to the characters. That being said, if they did add a new race, I expect it will be the bunny people as they could take the Huyr and slap ears on them.

Female Viera being taller than males wouldnt necessarily mean that they're short though?
I suppose a few people have been asking for an extra gender dimorphism when it comes to height, like we see in the Au Ra.

But we have height-differences in almost all races (except lalafell, I guess). And female elezen and Roegadyn are still pretty tall, yet still not as tall as males.

So, out of curiosity... are you only opposed to something as extreme as the Au Ra or the general concept of females being taller? If you could play as a male Viera with a max-height of 1,9m (ears not included) and the females max height would be 2,1m - would that still bother you? Your Viera wouldnt be a midget, just not as tall as the Viera girls around.

I apologise if I've missed the answer to that - I'm to tired to read through the whole thread right now, but I got curious about whats your actual issue here: The idea of not-so-tall males or of not-as-tall-as-the-girls males.

Or somewhere-between-Hyur-and-Elezen [human] offshoot. The overall intent seems to be that all the races may be wildly varied forms of the same base species (don't think too hard about how some of them would evolve), or at least closely related in the same way that, say, lions and tigers can interbreed.

Not exactly a confirmation, but if there are already in-world theories about the two races coming from a single origin, then it's not hard to think they will at least be also theorising that the Garleans came somewhere out of the same branch of the 'family tree'.

Honestly I dont believe that we would get dwarves. First we already do have Lalas as the small race and second they were never mentioned in the story before. At least Yugiri was part of the storyline before we got the Au Ra with the next expansion. Its not like this cant happen in the last two patches either but I kinda doubt it since they would already introduce us to the Viera in the 24 man raid. But that is the same problem that I have with the Ronso as a new race. Unlike Viera there is again no single hint that they do exist. That also can change but would they truly reveal two completely new races in the last two patches? Its not impossible but would feel a bit strange.

Also if that leaker is really saying the truth but dont want to spoil the other race for us wouldnt a lion make it still way too obvious? Maybe this is just a hint that we get something more beastly?

In the end I would have nothing against Ronso as a playable race if both versions are fierce looking beastly races. Otherwise I still just wish that we would get Viera and the Lupins since at least the latter would have already been introduced in the story. Thus it would feel less unbelieveable that they are just suddenly there.

Dwarves for me have the lowest chance to honestly be in the game because I dont thing they are truly requested by the community and would just feel like thicker Lalas with beards.

Yes they were just mentioned and never seen in the game just like all but one male mithra in XI.

During a Halloween event, there was a Miqo'te girl who's father was a Hyur, and mother was a Miqo'te. For some reason she had the fangs of a moonkitty, and the eyes of a sunkitty. So that is also possible. Also the insult "Your mother was a roegadyn" might hint that Hyurs and roes can also breed.

Two important things, father doesn't always mean biological father, and all Miqo'te kids models have fangs, chances are they all are born with them and only sun cats lose them as they grow up.

I don't like them from an aesthetic standpoint. There isn't much more to it than that - much like people playing tiny catgirls or lizard girls are just playing what they prefer. I do not want small bunny men. If they are small, I won't play them. Simple as. There's already catboys in a matriarchal society who can be made quite small, so it's not filling a new niche, anyway.

Of course, they can circumvent that by making a taller and shorter variant of the race. The concept art shows they were not planning on making the males particularly small, anyway, and any inspiration drawn from XII will be limited, as the race will require adjustments to fit into FFXIV, so for example they won't get high heel feet as it will cause havoc with footwear.

My issue would be making the dimorphism as pronounced as it is with Au ra. I am not even that fond of it within Au ra, but in their case it could have been resolved by just making the slider much broader for females, e.g. 150-185. I also would have liked more differentiation between Xaela and Raen, e.g. maybe more strongly Voidsent influenced features for Xaela, like some of the concept art, but that boat has sailed. The entire rationale behind the two racial variants used to be that one had slight magic stat bonuses and the other melee, but they rid of that, and I think it's a waste to just reduce the differences to be nothing but colouration. A very minor embellishment. If they're adding two races, though, I'd overlook it.

If they had a good reason as to why female Viera are taller, and still allowed for reasonably tall Viera males, it would not bother me.

I think there might only be one model for Miqo’te children, and it has the fangs, perhaps because it was made for Khloe first? (But maybe they can change the eye type more easily, or consider it more important to get right for each character.) The Sunseeker girl from the Moonfire Faire story had them as well. I’m not sure about Khloe’s friend though.

I cant remember them ever presenting any reason why there is such an extrem dimorphism in Au Ra - or a reason why male Roes are more buff than females. Or why Hyur-girls arent as tall as the guys.
Sure, its what we're used to from the real world, but seeing how this isnt the real world... I dont see why there would be a need to explain why the females of a certain race are taller than the males.

Females are larger because back when the race first evolved they had to fight off unknown males to keep them from eating their offspring.

The Ultimania only mentions the race being incredibly secretive and that male and female settlements are separate (because of the aforementioned secretiveness and males are very competitive for food even with their own species), not one mention of that sexual dimorphism. The only place where we see small viera is, in fact, the XIV concept art and they're both male and female.

tbf, the extreme dimorphism with no reason in Au Ra is not something they should repeat again because it was blatant pandering for the sake of pandering. Plus, it really made no sense thematically for Xaela, a warring, nomadic people, to have super tiny uwu women imo.

Again, I don't like the dimorphism with the Au ra. Hyur females are noticeably smaller than the males - same with everything but lalafell. The difference is one of degree and in the Au Ra's case I think it just looks stupid and puts me off playing a female one.

Nor is it unreasonable to ask them to justify something that is against the norm for the vast majority of mammalian species. That is what makes for good fantasy - explaining through the lore why a race exhibits certain traits, rather than just leaving it to pure artistic caprice. They don't have to but it's a damn shame for them not to use the opportunity to do so.

At least with the older iterations of the Drow, in the Forgotten Realms, the writers went to pains to provide a plausible reason as to why the females flipped the size differential.

Agreed, but on the last point, we're not talking about rabbits but humanoids with some rabbit features. So it's a different set of evolutionary pressures. As I said, if the developer team can come up with a good/interesting reason as to why they differ in that direction and incorporate them, fine. If not, I'm likelier than not to gloss over them, anyway. I'm not obliged to like what they include or how they include it.

Eh, larger females in mammal species are more common than most people realize. It's just that the big, flashy animals that most people think of when you say "mammal" (lions, elephants, bears, deer, etc.) don't follow this. It's actually relatively common among rodents and marsupials. If we can't have both the tall and short variants of viera, then I would be ok with tall/elegant females, and shorter/cuter males like from the concept art.

I'd prefer the men to be classically handsome and fairly tall/lean. If the rumours about two playable races being added have any weight to them then hopefully at least one of them will conform to standard gender norms.

Let's not beat around the bush - many of the people asking for Viera to be added are doing so because they find them to be attractive. That's fine, though if outright fanservice is the route that ends up being embraced then hopefully the male model will also be very good looking and conventionally attractive. I'd have happily played a Miqo'te if I could have played one that was tall and beefy. Since that isn't possible, hopefully Viera or some other race will end up fulfilling a similar niche.

It makes little sense. Rabbits do not have the same advanced social structures a humanoid race would have, which can strongly affect breeding patterns. It is fine from an artistic point of view to take inspiration (referring to the Drow, spiders were clearly the source, but the authors did not stop there and went further to explain why their society led to such an arrangement). If you want to justify it in terms of a race's lore, however, it will be by reference to the social norms that led to such dimorphism. I'd have liked for them to do that with the Au Ra, because whilst I think the implementation (versus the concept art) was not to my tastes at all for the females, it'd at least provide some insight into why the race splits along these lines. It's just good lore design to do so.

As I have stated multiple times now, I do not like the way they implemented the auri dimorphism; they're a bad precedent, not a good one. In general, I find their lore on the races lacking. Hence, I would like for them to instead put a bit more effort into it other than just appealing to some niche. They're releasing another lorebook soon, so I'm looking forward to them providing more insight into Auri (and other racial) lore.

I'd still not play an auri female with their current design but I like these kind of things being detailed, to better understand the race in question.

I'd be happy with Ronso, especially if they were designed to be very similar to their counterparts in FFX. If they're changed in any way then hopefully they'd have a facial option similar to Byakko's.

Yes, social structures can strongly affect breeding patterns. But having a social structure in and of itself does not necessitate larger males. Hyenas live in large groups (upwards of 50 members) with extremely complex social structure (on par with some species of monkeys) and the females are not only a great deal larger than males but also way more dominant in the group's hierarchy. If you are suggesting that a social structure needs to be more advanced to influence dimorphism (i.e. using tools, manipulating fire, and/or building an actual society,) then I feel the need to point out that the sexual dimorphism displayed in humans and our progenitors predates these developments by an incredibly wide margin.

It could be as simple a matter as the primitive species from which the Viera evolved had, for any number of reasons, larger females than males and that particular gene stuck around to the modern day.

Would an explanation be nice? Yes! More lore is always a welcome addition.

Would it be needed for Viera when it was not necessary to delve into the primordial genetic histories of any of the other races (all of them aside from Lallafel, not just Au Ra, display this to some degree) to explain their sexual dimorphism? I don't see why it should be.
