BLM is getting a few ancient magic spells back.
something that's been on my mind.
we hear and read that the classes will be more suitable for solo play while the jobs will be more suitable for party play. but really.. how believable is this. like in what scenario would it be better to be a Thaumaturge over a BLM? i'm just not seeing it... for some classes i guess it makes sense. *shrug*
As i said in other threads i would imagine jobs as especialized roles for parties, a BLM should have all the offensive spells like thunder, blizzard, fire, aero, water and their tiers for combo but might not be able to equip any cure spells at all, well at least thats the fair thing, so in a party it could do double the dmg than a thm but wont be able to help healing, and same thing for whm all the healing spells at their disposal but no nuking at all.
So class=solo
job=party
Only thing I worry about is putting Regen on people while sacrificing my ability to use Sentinel and Chameleon :\
Certainly hope some abilities will be universal.
I had a brainstorm today…in the shower of all places…all I can say is ‘I GET IT SE’ I fully understand or believe I understand what SE is doing with the whole classes/jobs thing…and I think its brilliant…really…really…really awesome, I would explain what I think but I believe leaving it up to SE works better for all of us. So now with my new found clarity, I would love to offer some ideas:
Lancer—Dragoon; Templar
Gladiator—Paladin; Dark Knight; Assassin; Ninja; Samurai
Marauder—Warrior; Berserker/Viking; Beastmaster; Geomancer
Archer—Bard; Ranger; Dancer
Pugilist—Monk; Puppetmaster;
Thaumaturge—Blackmage; Scholar
Conjurer—Whitemage; Summoner
This is just rough thought based on my few minutes of clarity...
Are you sure it was your brain you were storming?
Seriously though, Templar for LNC doesn't seem right as templars are sword and shield knights of the crusades. Thus they are generally associated with gladiator and more particular, paladin.
Seems like you are trying to push jobs of classes that don't appear to mesh well. As if you believe its impossible for new classes to come in. Perhaps you should hav your epiphany about new classes and there related jobs as well. Not that i am calling your ideas bad, by any means. You lost me when you got geomancer and MRD, how you get a caster class out of MRD, I got no idea, how you get a "diviner of earth" out of an axe weilding pirate type is way beyond me.
Very simply put, I am looking at the weapon specialization aspect of the jobs...now if you think about Templars from the crusades then yes they are more akin to Paladin and Gladiator, but I am going by SE's use of them from FFTA/FFTA2, and Geomancer as well was able to use both sowrd and axe from FFTA so hence I put it with MRD because of that, figuring that in addition to elemental attacks they had a strong melee traits...
And I am in no way opposed to new classes coming, I am all for the idea...like I said this was something I had thought about...my opinion on what I think could be possible.
Exp Parties will still be only Classes parties since you cannot gain exp through a job. So you lvl-up a job by exping a class.
So, instead of:
class = solo
job = party
I would say:
class = exp party + more chances to survive solo
job = events party (dungeons, sb, primals) and less chances to survive solo
Yeah but if jobs are event only classes wont be invited, because players will favor jobs over classes on dungeons and boss fights.
yeah that might happen, but will all be up to the party.... I don't think jobs will be that much powerful over their classes... just more specialized...
So, I might prefer a Cnj in my party, who can cure but also nuke a bit over a whm, or an Arc over a brd.
We will see.... I personally can't wait XD
dude you're eliminating end game content for classes, lancer using mrd arc and pgl skill migth not have the same play style as a drg, some ppl may like playing a mixed,lancer over drg. whats is not wrong with that?
It's quite like Final Fantasy Tactics. My only complaint is that you don't start the job from level 1. I think it'd be a lot more enjoyable to level up the job from scratch, but I know some people will disagree.
I'm still excited for 1.21, though. :)
I think I see where the OP was coming from.
Where say in 2.0, all gladiators are just paladins from the start. And setting a Paladin Stone ability on your action bar locks out cross class abilities. Still the armory system, with job names instead of class + job names.
I wonder if we'll reach a point where we just change classes via stones/drop downmenu, then wield more types of weapons on a class. Favor, required, and exclusive traits still influencing how we lean.
The Armory system is not that much different from XI's system. Stuff the moogle, Burn down the moghouse, and add the jobs to the weapons instead.
there's no Reason why XIV's Warrior Couldn't equip every weapon under the sun....just tag the weapons you wanted Warrior to have as (Required: GLA MRD WAR PLD)
On paper maybe, yeah, but all the "party roles" provided by jobs are already right here on our current classes. Conjurer is already a healer, Thaumaturge is already a nuker, we're merely getting an extension of those roles.
I am with OP, just smash classes and jobs together, there's no need for them to be seperate.
Why does everyone think of that as a good thing? It would mean if they do release Dark Knight or Samurai as just a job for Gladiator, all those jobs will be are 5 skills slapped onto the existing Gladiator skills. The differences between Paladin, Dark Knight or Samurai would be pretty minor and the majority of their skills would still be from Gladiator. Wouldn't it just be way more interesting to have entirely new classes?
Little problem with your base there: Weapon defines class, and each weapon can only be tied to one class (nothing stops a BOW that is a Pugilist's Arm, mind, HOWEVER that would be counter-intuitive) since that is a given of the system So a Warrior could only, in fact, equip the armament of the classes that can equip the Warrior Job Stone. Which could be 1, 2 or even 8, who nows what'll be done.
I think this is more of a nitpick and less of arguing your actual point, though, feel free to ignore.
that would be true if i were talking about a Class, however i was referring to a job. as far as we know there isn't an armory weapon associated to any job aside from the obvious Parent class weapons. the Warrior job could be given/or learn a trait(s) that allows it to equip any weapon. Skill Manuals immediately come to mind.
