Not sure why it would be an issue to anyone as its optional. You aren't forced to use it. I wouldn't mind it personally. Its not even a new thought, Windurst had intra-city travel in FFXI.

i kind of wish there were subways or something in 2.0 XD
a lot of the times mmo cities really don't feel like cities as much as they just feel like a bunch of useless crap surrounding a path to the auction house.
i just can't figure out why anyone would be against this. sure, i will most likely never use it myself, but if it makes the game enjoyable for someone else with less time what does it hurt me? at the end of the day we have to remember this is a game and games are meant to be fun. the last thing we should be doing is complaining they are adding in something to make the game more fun if it won't even effect us.
You don't like it? You don't use it! ;)
It's not such a tremendous thing. (As Jump is)
If you take the time to think about it for even a minute, it does make sense why someone would be against it because it's just yet another step is "teleport everywhere!" way of life. Soon we'll be able to teleport to all class/job guilds, then to all battlefields (if they ever implement), then we'll be able to teleport to cities we've never been too, to hamlets, hell we'll probably be able to teleport to the top of the Crystal Tower as an "option for those who want to just fight the boss."
It's a gateway system to other things. Whether you like that or not is your personal opinion, but it does make sense why someone can hate the idea, after all humans can like or hate things as they please.
Hmm.. This thread has been quite interesting. I always wonder what people who live in their parent's basement complain about on a regular basis. And now.. I wonder no more.
To all those who have posted "if you don't like it don't use it", that I would think, is the sane rational approach to a situation such as this. However, in saying that, you assume your audience is either of those things. For the same reason I would tell you not to hold your breath attempting to explain this philosophy to a gold fish, I would advise you not to hold your breath hoping it will be understood here.
All these neat little features SE is adding into the game will definitely give it a bunch of random selling points come 2.0 which will hopefully attract a broader audience.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, proportionality, get some.
Pearls before Swine, my friend.
no, the point is even if they added everything you pointed out you still have the choice. you could either teleport to the areas to get their quickly or you could do like i do and walk there anyways. i play everyday and i am almost always at 100 anima because i choose to walk places. i don't look down on others for not having any though because they made the choice to port somewhere.
it's a gateway to people getting places faster is they wish. you, however, are not forced to do the same. it's adding an option not forcing something.
This is going to be pretty much like on ffxi when you used your house you had different places to come out of, stop crying like babies for stupid stuff, this is fine. You go to you house in one city spot yo can get out on another zone where you can enter your house like bastok market bastok mines... Ect ect.
Hopefully it will only be until 2.0. Last I checked we have airships that are already instant.
Honestly I can't believe this is a hot topic.
Stuff is being put in NOW that will make more sense LATER.
It's not a hard concept to grasp.
LOL at people "quitting" over this.
For all we know they may make it much like it was in FFXI which sported "back alleys" to let you exit at another area in the city. Windurst also had a second form which involved tarutaru that would warp you from point to point.
As far as usefulness, it takes about 20-30 seconds to run from Port Jeuno to Ru'lude Gardens. If you use the backyard alleys (which you also have to do a quest to be able to do it) then it takes 10-15 seconds to travel between the two areas. Certainly not useful as far as usefulness is concerned but people still use it depending on where they happen to be in the zone.
Correct.
Which is why I don't see the point in complaining. If you keep the fact that systems being put in now are really meant for later and the picture is not complete then really there's nothing to complain about. For some reason people find it easier to be short sighted and then spend time on these forums complaining.
The game is being rebuilt, stuff is being put in that does not make sense in the current game world because it's meant for use in 2.0.
I think a lot of folks who stuck it out at the beginning did so in hopes of seeing things get better. Where better is subjective to each player.
It would be nice to have the option for additional conveniences. Not unlike anima, buying items from the list on wards, marking of secondary nodes on the map, auto-assembling mats from the recent recipes, saving our action positions/cross actions when switching classes.
In a city like Ul'dah, I don't see that people will use intra-city travel amongst the popular areas so much. Unless it's an instant-load versus a double cutscene skip, then wait for the area to reload.
In a city like Gridania or Limsa Lominsa, I could see more use for these. Moreso once inter-city marketing is implemented.
Edit: Read with caution my very first MMO was FF11 and i loved it so i may be a masochist (as some people put it -_-), making for a bias opinion.
At the rate teleport is going i just don't see why SE doesn't allow for /teleport(anylocation). The same line of thinking everyone applies now would still hold true "you don't HAVE to use it if you don't WANT to" and while there at it why not just have /give(weapon/armor) and really make it interesting. There's ways to speed up monotonous travel and then there is just lazy.
But hey i love this game so even then id still be here lol.
First off, nobody is quitting because of the little feature.....
Second it effects everyone, not just "if you don't like it don't use it" I've said it with the airship, nobody is going to want to wait for you so you are forced to use it....
Third Why would I want less people running around in my city?
Cool, I don't really see the fuss my self. Hell xi had intra-city travel in the form of mog house exits. Windurst took it a step further and had npc's that would port you around to the various sections of that labyrinth of hell and cherry music.
I probably will not utilize it that much if at all but it will be nifty that its there.
I am hoping that the reason for implementing this is that there will be so much to do, so many places to visit, so many quests to accept, so many interesting NPC's with relevant stories and sidequests and so many Players in the now crowded full server cities (after merges) that walking anywhere in a city will be a stuttering lagfest if you don't use the intra-warps.
That is my hope, at least till v2.0 fixes the lag issues.
That would be nice, but getting somewhere is half the fun, just go play skyrim... oh wait you used the instant travel on that game as well -.-
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE
OUSLY AWESOME IDEA.
Interesting...what does intra city travel mean, the Windurts npc warp or the different exit zones from player housing or soemthing entirely different altogether such as atheryte to atheryte?
I have felt the cities in FFXIV are smaller than those in FFXI so intra-city travel hasn't been necessary. Having said that there are some annoyances especially blind turns which can be missed at Limsa Lominsa and Gridania, even then I fail to see how intra-city travel will solve that.
My guess is that this is in preparation for 2.0 where cities might be larger than they are now. Or maybe they'll force walk all players in town so that intra-city travel might be necessary in you are in a hurry :P (seriously, why is every running around in town anyway - what's the rush?)
I try to walk when I can ;) But as I said, people will make you run if it means getting there faster. That's why I don't like all these "conveniences" people will start to force me on playing a way I don't wanna play.
Bigger, more explorable cities<can I have it?>
If I did that you couldn't maul me with you GOOOBUUUU ;) you would be ultra sad
Can't tell if you are joking or not with this post... If you are serious, I think you should also rage quit about minor spelling mistakes and other nuances that have little to no consequence to the overall game. WHY DID THEY MAKE THAT ICON BLUE?!?!?! I LIKED IT YELLOW!!! ***Rage quit***
The people posting with negative comments about this upcoming feature either A) don't understand how it will work or B) have issues. This is a win for everyone and will help reduce load on specific areas of the game. Most people will still stand around the Aetheryte area in Ul'dah to form shout parties, though, so don't worry. Be happy.
LMAO SO only 2 people in the entire post have expressed dipsleasure over this feature, yet 80% of the responses are about those 2 posts. Come ya'll, really?
