I looked for my unfinished copy of FFXIII this weekend hoping to play it more and remember if I liked it or not. I will be playing FFXIII-2 for 2 reasons, 1) I play all the FF games I can get my hands on and 2) My hubby pre-ordered it for me.

Chocolina has something to say about all of this.

Lol that would be awesome I'd like it for my male miqote go!!,
I'm playing ff13-2 (3 hours) and i really enjoyed those first 3 hours much more than entire FF13 lol. The game is pure fun and has awesome hilarious moments. Also the story is interesting so far (Noel seems a great character).
Edge magazine gave it a 5/10

FFXIII wasn't that bad, when I first played it I gave it up immediately, after XIII-2 was advertised, I was like "oh man gotta finish XIII so I can understand XIII-2", one thing I'm not happy about though is lightning as dlc. But XIII the battle was streamlined, but it was also faster made sense. The characters were lacking in some regards, but I think no more than other FFs, you could just hear the stupid crap they say now ^^
alone the header "can it atone for the sins of its predecessor" is so dripping bias that i don't care about their opinion.
oh and if you want scores loledgeonline is only one out of two that gave it a 5/10
Games radar 9/10
Cheat Code Central 9/10
Gametrailers 8.8/10
Gaming XP 8.7/10
GamingTrend 8.5/10
Everyeye.it 8.5/10
PSX Extreme 8.5/10
Spazio Games 8.5/10
XGN 8.5/10
i could go on, the lowest it goes is a 7.5/10 except for 2 sites that are obviously biased
nothing personal or anything just wanted to put that lol5/10 into perspective for people that don't know
Anyone can say that a low or high score is biased too. I just showed the score because it is good to see an opinion that differs from the norm.
"This is a big game, clocking in at about the 40-hour mark, but the lack of challenge in combat combined with the formulaic missions and frequent cutscenes too often make it feel like a sticky trudge. The visual and audio design is marvellous at times, offering up the kind of setting that you drink in before taking a single step, but the journey is always the same. The apparently open structure disguises a simple closed network of locked doors and narrow environments, while the ATB system is wasted on enemies that would struggle to defeat a corpse. Perhaps this is indeed the gameFinal Fantasy nuts thought they wanted, but surely even they’ll be disappointed with the result. [5] "
If 40 hours is a big game, XIII must have been really big. My first playthrough took me 60 hours, which I thought was pretty good for a Final Fantasy that didn't have much side-questing.
yeah cause that quote is surely a beautiful example of professional journalism...
and if showing "an opinion that differs from the norm" means unprofessional ramblings of someone that obviously despised the prequel and throwing around weak comparisons like "feels like a sticky trudge" then i can live without it.
keep in mind that this is just my opinion, like this "review" is nothing else than an glorified opinion, i just wanted to show that this ISNT the universal reception the game recieves to people that haven't looked at other sites yet.
Holy... i logged over 100 hours alone on 13 before my ps3 died... .I did the same with 12.... *sighs* stupid ps3.... I want to play 13-2. I need to buy it. One because I want to form my own opinion of the game and 2 because I've played all of the final fantasy games even though i haven't beat all of them yet. So when I can I will be playing it.
I could have gone much higher, but I rushed through the last 3 chapters =)
Reviews agree with me? Great review, 10/10!
Reviews disagree with me? Terrible review, 4.0/10!
Every. Single. Time.
Not even remotely interested in the smallest way.
My mother bought this for me while I was at school yesterday, It sure was a pleasant surprise. So far, I am enjoying it.
Say where do you find Librascope or the Libra ability ...
Been on chapter 3 and missing lots of mobs (including bosses that i cant use to see their specs)
I'm scared to waste the Fragment
Unless orb are randomly generated, from when I played through the game last month Librascopes can be found in orbs in New Bodhum right at the beginning and scattered everywhere (specially using Mog.)
Played it for a few hours last night and so far I like it ok. I didn't finish FFXIII so I don't know how that ended but it doesn't seem to matter.
It does, you won't understand a few things (especially Serah's thoughts) unless you did finish XIII. It only doesn't matter in the sense you gain no benefit beyond knowledge, a crystal and theme for beating it, XIII-2's cast isn't the same as the first and Sazh's story is DLC iirc.
I think knowing the previous story does in fact benefit the player
At the very least, go through the Beginner Primers. They are fairly well done.
Just recently started playing XIII to get a refresher on the story. *It's really confusing for the first few hours or so, unless you are playing it again.*
Then i plan to get cracking on XIII-2.
Not far enough in yet, but I would assume you could find a mob that drops them frequently if you 5 star and farm Librascopes. Other than that I'm not far enough in yet to give better advice.
Second playthough REALLY helps understand XIII in its entirety.
So thoughts anyone? I've been playing for 2 days non stop now and SE did fantastic job. Definitely more fun than XIII.
Damn UK release being the 3rd Feb >.>, Amazon sent mine in the post this morning so I'll be playing it tomorrow :D
I can't wait to get mine. I preordered, but got free shipping, so I should get it tomorrow or saturday. I've been replaying FFXIII in the meantime. I maintain that the fun part was the fast paced story driven part and not the wide open part I need to grind on that I'm in right now. I almost want to stop playing and just go straight to ffxiii-2 because this is so boring...
From what I saw of the demo, FFXIII-2 is better in every conceivable way. Hopefully that, along with FFXIV's relaunch, will help rehabilitate SE's image.
You know I wasn't big on the XIII battle system that relied on paradigm shifting more than use of specific spells, but XIII-2 is proving I that it is in fact very viable, fun and still strategic. I still turn my default menu to Abilities though. Auto-battle might be possible to win the game sure, but you sure won't roll through optional content that way.
XIII-2 is very enjoyable. I take back what I said about X-2 and SE's ability to make a quick turnaround sequel-story too.
No spoilers here from me.
I wasn't too fond of the pacing of FFXIII. And so far, not too fond of *some* of the pacing in FFXIII-2. A short chapter book that came with my copy helped as an epilogue to FFXIII.
I AM however, extremely pleased with the music and the game mechanics.
Still waiting until I can stop playing XIV long enough to finish XIII before I can even look at XIII-2
