I'm aware that a good amount of mogstation items were developed specifically to be sold for real money, but those are unrelated to the thread. This is about people disagreeing with the OP going as far as wanting to pay for a version of gear from one role, that can be glamoured onto a different role's gear.
The main reason why mages never usually wear plate armour is because the weight of it distracts from the concentration required to cast. They really screwed this all up by allowing tanks to wear absolutely nothing though so I don't see the concentration argument they would normally stand by hold any weight (yes, I know, I couldn't think of any other way to put it).
There are a few plate armour they can wear, a couple shown within this thread already for you, there is also the Light Steel Galerus if that is to your fancy.. While not a plate armour, the High Allagan Coat is covered in plated pieces that could work. There are other pieces out there with plated armour on them, which could be glamoured to make it look like you're in plate armour, so can have a look around to mix and match. They've been making pieces available for all jobs too, like the Uraeus coat, so don't lose hope on them doing this with some plate armour, a lot of JP XI players wanted them to make the Wootz sets be glamourable by all as well so they might do that in the future.
casters wear robes, tanks wear armor. simple.
you could also try out the proto ultima mesh, that kind of has a armor look to it.

Not my char, but the point of tanks wear armour is not an argument anymore.
