All the dev companies I worked for over the years who split things into teams have done it all wrong

...I want. I want so bad. Now to resist really hard until there's a sale that includes them. Already waiting for a certain ohohoho minion to fall under one x.x hnnngh
dont even care that its on the mogstation, what im more peeved about is that they are asking you to spend another 24$ for a literal recolor of the exact same thing.
This should have been a buy 1 get the other free thing, 48$ for two mounts, and the second mount is the exact same with a different color? you can forget that.
THeres a reason i havnt bought the bennu, cos the ZU ingame works just as well.
This is a stupid decision.
It doesn't matter what the game's name is or how many people can be pressured into parting with their coin, if acquiring all content in this game costs more money than purchasing the entirety of the sims 3 game and expansions (a game that was blasted for its excessiveuse of dlc and content packs) four times, then yeah, FFXIV is an overpriced game. Compare WoW, the only other popular game with a sub (but that's technically optional as you can earn one with in-game currency now) and a cash shop. WoW has added 29 items into its store over the course of some 13 years(not including services/consumables), FFXIV has added 183 over the course of 4. And while Wildstar receives minor (but still regular) updates to its game over the course of a year (due to many factors not related to its gameplay or monetization), GW2 has major content patches near quarterly with new fully voiced story quests, new zones with new objectives and events, and new raids (not bosses in a box like xiv, but areas that would be comparable to ARR zones).
Oh and I'm still playing because I find raiding with my friends fun. And it sucks because I want to love this game as I love the world and the lore and its overall style, but it's hard when game companies, not just XIV/SE mind you, seem to enjoy preying on people like me who play games as collectors, who like going through content to collect the shiniest treasures to customize our personal avatars to the best of our abilities, and milking us for all that we've got while holding back objectives that could've had fun and engaging gameplay elements, all the while people blinded by fandom excuse this behavior because "well it doesn't affect my enjoyment so it must be ok!"
Comparing the Mogstation to EA or Activision's practices shows a complete lack of awareness regarding said practices. EA built an entire game where your only means of progression is an enormous grind or to pay for the mere chance at actually getting what you want. Activision, through Budgie, reduced endgame EXP without saying a word and when caught, promptly doubled the requirements. Now do explain how a vanity item that serves no function beyond your standard Chocobo compares to either Stars Wars: Battlefront II or Destiny? If Eureka releases with lootboxes and has a substantially higher level than even Savage, then you can make this comparison.
As for carving out content. These items are specifically designed for the sole purpose of making additional profit. If the Mogstation didn't exist neither would these mounts. While some companies are more exploitative than others, DLC and micro-transactions are generally developed separately to keep a game profitable beyond its initial release. If people ever mass boycotted to the point neither were profitable, they wouldn't just gift you the content as a reward in-game. They wouldn't make it to begin with.
And the overwhelming majority of vanity is released with patch cycles or expansions. You still get your core aspect. Just not necessarily everything. Do tell how it isn't vanity only. Nothing on the Mogstation influences endgame whatsoever.
Except no one is forcing you to do anything, as I mentioned to Leera. You only have to pay for the base game you want to play and the subscription. That's all you have to pay. If you're a collector, then just collect the things in the game and pretend the MS doesn't even exist. Once again, this all boils down to you being upset that you have to spend more money for something you want. Unfortunately sometimes you have to do that and no amount of foot stomping is going to change SE - or any company for that matter. Enjoy the game as it is - a game. You don't have to have everything.
Can we have lootboxes now?
So you want to paint your nails but you want more than one color. Would it still be a problem then to buy the same brand in two different colors? Of course you're paying two different prices for the same thing - in the game they are two separate items.
edit
The original pets, I mean.
Ahhhh. Come on now, why isn't at least one of the outfits or the mounts a reward for completing the arcanima quest line. *sad face* :(
Just kidding, although it would've been awesome if it were so. I almost never buy anything from the mogshop, but I'm happy to make an exception this time.
I'm just glad these aren't tied to physical merchandise that are almost impossible to get in my region without paying 3x the original price.
They should of just waited to release this in a month. Also why is all the Carbuncle stuff only ever in the Cash Shop?
The items are not only vanity items.. The items have stats like +2 str +2 Int. It does not matter if the stats are small they should be removed and then we can call it just "Vanity Items."
On the other hand, changing a character name is more expensive in GW2, and they don't even have a paid option to change your character's race. Both of these are relatively cheap (in comparison to other MMOs, especially WoW) in FFXIV.
People still play Wildstar?Quote:

(which likely wouldn't get you all the exclusive dyes anyway). It excludes any purchases with a temporary use.
In total, this'll cost you 142410 gems, with a value of $1780,13, or 37,368 gold and 50 silver (at current gold:gems conversion rates). This wouldn't even get you everything from the gem store, since it doesn't offer everything at the same time.
But hey, at least you don't have to pay anything per month, right?
As for the playable ping part. I play on a NA server while living in the EU, and I've cleared everything except for Ultimate Bahamut (no interest) just fine.
Back then, an emote was only 1.40€. This one seems like a pretty simple emote... inflation? low sale expectations?
I'm curious about the cost to produce that animation.
They should really offer single-character mount versions too, since, you know, the game is the way it is.
most of the housing items are craftable tho? I have a carby house i made myself inside and out.
items that only give you a kick when you're under 30 or so. Like said before in this thread it doesn't affect endgame. No one buys those thinga for their statsQuote:

Thats a pretty far reachign statement. those nails colors are a physical product, they have to be created, distrubted, bottled, sold. they only had to make one of these models, they only had to put forth effort for one thing, and then they just swap a color, nothing new. no more effort. i cant beleive you are defending this. like..i understand they charge for colors alot, from dyes, to other real life things at random stores, some people want a specific color, but this is a different circumstance, its a reskin of a mount, in an already P2P game, for 24$ which is already overpriced as hell, the least they could do to soften the blow is at least give us both mounts for one price, this specific thing screams of greed to me. 48$ for two of the exact same things is ridiculous to me, after you buy the first one, you are essentially paying 24$ for a dye. how you can be ok with that is beyond me
Yep putting my hands over my eyes and going "lalalalala" whenever I hear a mount whistle totally makes it so that the mog station isn't being rubbed in my face! 100% completely ignored! It's like there isn't over $1000 worth of content gated away from me!
I can also just color my chocobo blue and name it "carbuncle" for my carbuncle themed character and FC and House and... Wait... no... that's not how that works at all...
And yes "this boils down" to me being angry that once again my gameplay experience is valued less than someone who could play this game on a spreadsheet and have fun. I'd like to see you restrict yourself to "base game" level 50 content and try to have fun while everyone else has fun with the full game around you. 'Cause no amount of fussing over my opinion is going to stop me from, sometime in the future, determining that this game costs more than its worth.
It sadly does not matter if it is the Cash Shop to me anyway. Stats need to be removed. The same thing with Job boost, Msq skips, Retainer Job boost. If the Cash Shop was supposed to be Vanity only these should be removed.
I really don't mind the Cash Shop but I hate when people say its vanity only. No its not however small the stats its P2W.
I have no issue paying for ingame item with real money on F2P game, but with the current FFXIV's situation (B2P with subscription and only the minimal amount of content spoon-feeded every three + month) I find releasing such item in the cash shop isn't normal and indicates a lack of respect toward the customers.
The current FFXIV's experience isn't any better to those of random F2P MMO games and yet the amount of cash shop items grows by the day.
Dear SE, I hate you. :)
You started the cash shop to give us old event items and yet we get more and more exclusive mounts, pets and emotes in there that never ever touched the game before that. Why not make it an event price instead of giving us just another head that barely anyone would wear?
Honestly just selling the wedding and the fantasia should get you enough of an income and since SB the jump potions too..I had one last bit of hope that you would be sensitive enough to finally give us such unique mounts ingame but yet we will just get re-colors for the next primal and maybe instead of a couch we will get a desk as a mount..
Also that much money for such a short emote...I just cant..
But hey, at least you can dye the costumes.
I'll grant you the skip potions. Your stance essentially boils down to because you value aesthetics, everything should be obtainable for free. That doesn't make my stance invalid, just that you disagree with the premise.
That's absurd. P2W necessitates a winning state. You don't "win" anything with these stat bonus. In fact, the defensive stats are so low tanks would explode entering Haukke Manor wearing the set.
I glad Carby mount it's not item code from carbuncle hats. I was really scared for some time after they dig out carbuncle mounts and attire. I really don't care about them being a cash shop item. I can live without them (that's not true), they don't give me any advantage in the game and I still have some pretty mounts from the game for "free". You guys gives few F2P games price as an example but you ignored price from the most "biggest" and "oldest" MMO - World of Warcraft where mounts cost around 25$/20 euro. Final Fantasy XIV receive a lot of attention and new players after SB release and we got few price rise because of that. Our crying about it gonna change nothing. We still get a lot of free stuff. It would be great if we get such item for free but be realistic here - it not gonna happens.
Found some clips of the emote on reddit.
Female Au Ra
Female Roegadyn
Male Miqo'te
Yes a level 1 can pay to get stats, they can pay to get ahead in Msq, get ahead with a job boost, get a retainer ahead with a retainer job boost. That is P2W.. While the stats are not very meaningful they can be used to get a level 1 ahead.
I also remember reading our Cash Shop was meant for vanity.
And to add to that: Neither are Retainers. Retainers are storage, market board slots and ventures, the latter of which is a source of ingame income (And not even a terrible one at that).
Personally, I'm just sad that my subscription automatically pays for items and content I have absolutely no interest in, but I have to pay extra for items from the shop that I would actually use. I really don't need Ultimate content in my life, I'd rather get a free vanity item a year or sth.
And a winning state necessitates a competition that separates winners from losers. Which in turn means that swathes of PvE content cannot be P2W ever, because most of the content is non-competitive and any rules, winning conditions or states would have to be set by yourself as the game doesn't set any. Such may include but are not limited to being the first in the world to clear content X, having the prettiest carbuncle glamour, getting from 1 to 70 first, getting the furthest in PotD solo or being the first across a set track in Shirogane. You can put anything as win condition here and thus make anything P2W if you feel so inclined.
This items is not exactly P2W. But it depends of the point of view. For me P2W means that the items you bought give you advantage in the end game. Like for example if you could buy whole genji set - that could be P2W items. Whole Ala Mhigan crafting set? 345 illvl weapon only for cash? Or set of additional 100 levequests if you already burn all of your free ones. If I save some time buying jump potion to lvl 60 I still need to level up to 70. I hardly see what advantage in game give me jump potion for the reteiners besides few additional items they can give me for some minor crafting recipes.
I'm honestly pretty disgusted with S-E over this, there have been people asking for these mounts since 1.0 and instead of giving people a chance to earn them they decide to nickel and dime people, had it been any other mount i'd have been more accepting but this is pretty sickening to me.
I'll be honest, it has made me doubt if i want to resub once my sub is up(if they'd stoop this low i expect them to do more in the future) but i guess we'll see.
Not, it isn't. Once again, you have to establish a "win" state for P2W to apply. The closest equivalent to winning in FFXIV is completing Savage or Ultimate. Purchasing a jump potion is simply paying for a convenience. It accomplishes absolutely nothing if you jump DRG to 60, level to 70 and have no idea how to actually play the job. Getting ahead means very little in this game as progression is always restricted based on caps. A person who skips every single cut scene is technically going to complete the MSQ significantly faster than someone who watches them. Someone leveling a tank will speed through dungeon queues whereas a DPS will have wait times potentially exceeding twenty minutes.
When you can purchase 2,000 tomestone of x or progression on the Stormblood relic is tied to lootboxes, then we can discuss P2W tactics.
I'm disappointed. Not because they're available on the Mog Station but because I was hoping that they would be available in exchange for achievement certificates. It was implemented as a system and yet there is nothing new associated with it - so for anyone who already acquired the veteran rewards there's literally nothing for them to spend achievement certificates on.
Who defines This magical "Win state" for P2W to apply. We have no real definition for this term. You think Raiding and Ultimate is the win state but our game is a MMO.
Others like myself will disagree since you brought up the tomestones, and relics Is that not just progress? The items I listed also have to deal with progress?
We have no real definition for most games since they are never ending like Farmville, Smite, League, Clan wars ect..
Sorry for Edits.
Congratulations on wasting your money. I hope you found entering your credit card information real challanging. Bet you really feel accomplished right now.
Even League of Legends has a way to earn aesthetics. And that game is free???
There's no need to be bitter about it. There's no shortage of special mounts and minions to earn in-game that grant a feeling of accomplishment. As for whether or not something is a waste of money that is up to the individual spending it to decide, not anybody else.
You still need to invest quite a bit of time into League to get all champions you want/need, however.
And they make a lot of ruckus about the extra skins via promotions. I recall the PROJECT and Star guardian skins with their fancy (and admittingly well designed) trailers and login screens, basically throwing you their release in your face: "They are out, come get them! You know you want those."
Needless to say, they did cost quite a bit as well to acquire them, with Ezreal's Pulsefire skin alone being about 25$/20€.
I don't believe that reaching lv.60 is winning anything. I have leveled tons of alts myself; whether I leveled them on my own or using the skip potions, it doesn't affect you the slightest and it doesn't give me any sort of advantage towards you. You can't even tell what method I used to level them because you'll just see yet another random lv.60 running around. (For the record, I haven't used any potion myself, and I'm very fine with anyone using them to simply get the level faster. I don't see what difference it makes).
So much money for glams and mounts that aren’t gonna be used for too long. Honestly the only thing I’m thinking to buy is the emote, guess it looks pretty cute in softlanders
