What I find funniest about the XI-2 argument people make Jennestia, is that if they HAD just made this game XI-2 instead of what it was, it probably would have sold more and done better than what we have now.

I have my own concept of HNMs =)
They're High Notorious Monsters, same thing as saying High-level Notorious Monsters, therefore I use HNMs, but I see that you don't like it that much so I'm gonna call them...
Free-Roaming Dangerous On The Clock High-level Notorious Monsters.
FRDOTCHNMS
I know you meant no harm, but I had to write this =)
That remains to be seen, but I certainly hope it does. I think there were many great ideas they could have taken from Xi but didn't, but I am glad they didnt just make a carbon copy of it. The drops from tough nms for example should be more like it was in XI, but adding something like that wouldnt make me feel like they are trying to turn this game into another XI. It would only mean they kept what works and threw out what doesn't.
The main issue I see here, its not the items, the method there obtained, nor is it the stats. The problem is that character growth has been at dead stop for longer then it was most likely planed for.
If the winglet was say a level 54 or 59 sword. It outclassing the scimitar would be a complete non issue. Its the same for every thing else.
When did I assert that we wanted a "band aid job" to fix this? I totally agree that the numerical changes need to take into account the big picture (future weapons we're not privy to, 2.0 long term weapons, etc.). From my original post:
"... 1 member of the Combat Team that's astute enough to look at the stats of current high level gear, and...
* Adjust numerical values of currently existing NM / FNM Drops (probably in a spreadsheet).
Of course they have to think about Balance and making sure it won't overpower anything or outshine anything too much..."
Whoever the Lead/Senior Combat Designer is in charge of this area would certainly be more than capable of reevaluating the stats on the *6* old NM Items (as an example) and make incremental changes if need be.
I never said it was an instant fix, nor that it'd only take 10 minutes. But what Doctor Mog, Xatsh and others are asking for isn't something as extreme as "give us a whole new Continent with brand new HNMs / Models / and something more intricate than Dynamis."
SE has currently invalidated all their previous "max level" content (Original NMs, Faction NMs, Dzemael) and it's something that could be salvaged, or as Doctor Mog said, they'd need to generate far more content as a replacement for that, if they're going for that type of "3 month and it's overwritten" philosophy.
I am really hoping for a reply by the devs in this thread.
I sure as hell aint changing my Aeolian Scimitar +1 for which i bled, swet and cried for for about a month lol..
I have a doubled winglet but meh... not really excited to use a Master Sword in a FF game.
Some suggestions in here are just great like enhancing the NM dropped weapon with new items at a patch.
I think thats the best idea for them. (Coat the Scimitar with Mythril or Darksilver)
This could be used easily i think, just need some coding and imagination.
Lol?

The use of words or data that could be omitted without loss of meaning or function; repetition or superfluity of information.
I totally agree with the OP - it is so sad that my mogstaff is not as good as my ivory staff with all the materia ; ;
And while we are at it, can we PLS have an item such as Kraken club in FFXI which is incredibly rare but desired by everyone. Like stuff that only one or two lucky ones in the whole server would have but everyone could aim to get.
(lol now that I think about it, Ifrit weapons for me already seem like it!!!!! I can never get a drop grr)
