cool another death to add to the many death of the game megathread
This is def not a death to the game thread , I love this game and play it all the time daily. But Im also not gona lie and say that I dont have to come up with creative ways to play the game because there is literally ten fights to do in the game atm. And two of them really arent pug friendly either for most. We simply just didnt get much actual sb content, yes we have content but thats just going back to doing old stuff.
I'm referring to the megathread we have about the "many" death or the diying of FFXIV according to forum feels.
about the content, we got more than what we got in hw tbh, but if you want only battle content maybe this is not the game for you, this is what I tell most of my friends, although this game has the option to tackle a content in a challenging way if you wish, which is something I wouldn't mind doing if I had the ppl for it
Getting more classes/jobs into the 60+ range mostly, with a mix of gathering and the occasional Triple Triad card hunting spree (153 collected so far) or Chocobo racing, or helping my wife work through the story at her somewhat glacial pace.
Summers aren't busy for me (perks of working in a school system) so I was able to put in a lot of time with a couple jobs and my gatherers, but the remaining three seasons are pretty full, so I'm not likely to finish these goals before the next patch hits either.
Trying to beat omega 3 savage :3
I actually am aiming to clear savage this time around. For the first time I was able to clear a savage raid(only o1s thus far) while it was current and it's encouraged me to continue on. I've seen all mechs in O2S so I'm aiming to clear that soon.
I've only really been logging on for the sake of capping tomes and grabbing the weekly weapon token from O4.
I'm not bored of the game. There's a lot of content I want to do but time and time again the 'community' on Balmung disappoints me due to a ridiculous amount of people that I meet and befriend proving to be completely and utterly unreliable.
Yeah, I don't really.... feel a lack of content at all. When in game, I can:
Raid
Make food for raids
Make pots for raids
Level up fishing
Level up all of the other classes besides WHM and RDM
Farm for blissful kamuy
Do WT
Do maps
Cap
Get mounts
Get minions
Actually finish acquiring the rest of GARO items
PvP
Git gud
Finish decorating my houses
Go back to gardening (on hold while I level up retainers)
Make things to sell for gil for X reason
Get chocobo to rank 20
Get GS items I'm still missing that I want
Get racing chocobo barding
Get stupid achievement (like, but not limited to, gathering, crafting, hunts, leves)
It's just a matter of if I feel like doing any of the above. If I don't, that's when I hop on Fortnite, Overwatch or Monster Hunter.
Still working on savage mode and leveling up every job to 70. I completed the God of War title achievement a few days ago, now I'm working on God of Magic. Crafters and gatherers are already at 70 and I'm still beating my head against D3 savage trying to get a victory. Besides that, working on building up gil via crafting/gathering and socializing with my FC.
The thing is, this isn't too different from when HW launched. It feels almost the same when it comes to content. Except this time around we have 1 extra dungeon for expert roulette.
Levelling the rest of my classes and trying to become a better Tank overall. Doing a fair job at it, so far.
I busy just trying to stay login and cap my tomes for the week.
I'm leveling up PLD and DRK slowly.
I don't really have the willingness to farm Lakshmi accessories because of extreme bad luck on drops, and the will to clear Susano because I kept getting awful groups. I might try out Omega savage but...I don't really have time for a static and all that stuff, plus I feel like I should get EX trial gear first before attempting to.
I have most of the classes i want at max level already so im not doing too much alt leveling, except like you said im slow lvling WHM. Other than that it's between pugging v4s, finally leveling CUL, hunts, and just helping anyone out who needs it. Although...I have been starting to get bored of the content, I think v4s is fun but it's so punishing that it makes trying to pug a clear a nightmare. Hopefully we get some new fun content cause my drive to play is fading. PS4 is supposed to be getting a beta for Tera soon so mostly waiting on that lol
Unless you are no lifing the game, there is plenty to do.
Leveling alternate classes through hunt marks, DF and PVP. and enjoying the quest stories, gathering minions , leveling crafting. Farming stuff for relic weapons and gathering Adventure squadron members I want.
There is TONS of stuff to do and whenever I hear people say there is "no content" I always remember most of the people are here to do MSQ and max gear.. and thats it. But there is so much more to do.
For me lately it's grinding tomes and Minion hunting.
Working on Yellow scripts crafter,I plan to buy every single yellow script gears available.
Its a long road and boring but at least it will keep me occupied for a while.
Also stuck at V3S for a week now...
Most clear party obviously ain't ready for clear ...
Ive mentioned this a few times, I guess I should have put it in the heading what actual sb max level content do we have. Outside of leveling crafters and gathers to 70 once you hit max level your options are limited. There are two primals at 70 with low level gear thats same ilvl as the crafted stuff, then you have normal raids once you get a drop from ur done for the week , I have been gettin all my drops in one day. Then you have savage raids which even then you get one page for the week and your done, oh and treasure maps. So tell me as far as sb content what do we have, hardly anything, Im totally fine with that but Im also sayin it could have been better and others whom arent creative with their gameplay could easily get very bored.
I understand where you're coming from, but you have to realise that Heavensward started with even less content. This is just the norm for new FFXIV expansions. You don't get to start with a lot of content, but it gradually gets patched in. You can't just rush and no-life everything and then act surprised when you run out of things to do quickly. The game isn't built for that.
Personally, I still feel like I have plenty to do. I do my roulettes when I get back home from work to get Tomestones, and after that I have some time left to do Deltascape Normal for my PLD and WHM or Savage for my DRG. This is usually enough to keep me busy until the weekend, after which I can start leveling other classes. And if I've capped a new class, I can use that to run Susano or Lakshmi to get a new weapon and new accessories. Not to forget PotD, crafting, collecting minions or mounts... Sometimes you just have to be creative to keep yourself busy.
That's a little limiting just in your own perimeters though isn't it? .
"actual max level content". The initial expansion isn't about endgame, it's about the MSQ and the journey to the end. The new worlds they've opened and the people and stories contained in them.
You're basically saying that after the main course , what more is there to the meal?
A few people are always gonna burn through it all in the first couple weeks and then say "so now what?"... well you wolfed down the whole meal and speedread through the book. ... that's all for now?
The patches are coming , more stuff is coming. They're making it as fast as they can
The kind of playstyle you described in your post was how I thought the vast majority of gamers played, rather than just a few, and people like myself were in a very small minority Oo Please accept my apologies, I'm not disagreeing with your viewpoint, it's just my experience in mmos I've been playing for many years has always been the opposite, everyone seems to be in such a massive rush.. lol I'm rambling now, sorry for slight OT. To keep on topic, I'm always busy, because I never outpace the content as soon as it's available, always playing catch up :)
Edit: prob my age as well, can't keep up with the younger generation :p I've had a sleepless night again, please excuse any mistakes or silly assumptions, I've got derp brain.
This is part of the reality of mmo's really. They will never be such a thing as "enough content." Its impossible for them to keep up with the players who burn through things at a fast or even moderate pace. Sooner or later you'll burn through the content available and have to decide what to do with your time.
I leveled my crafters/gatherers but that didnt take very long due to the new leves.
I only login to do roulettes for alt classes.
I do not raid
Bismarck was useless and ARF had no gear on it ergo useless too, not to mention most ppl couldn't clear end-game for w/e reasons, so yes we got a bit more but what's important is that what we got is better based on feedback
the 2 primals were relevant to some extent (I know crafted gears made them obsolete but the point still stand)
MSQ dungeon has gear and a vanity item so it has worth
Aquapolis 2.0 (which is an improved version of the original by having a final boss imho)
you get materias from dungeon mobs and you can SB gear without it beign an hassle (maybe not for everyone but it's there)
The overall difficulty curve of the game is better
Personally I also think that no levelling dungeon feels an hassle compared to some HW ones and I especially like sirensong but that's my opinion.
TL : DR We got slightly more and better version of the content we got with HW
Oh, please don't apologize even if you are disagreeing. I cannot possibly expect everyone to see the world as I do.That's just vain =] I used to play the same way, burn through things in 7 hour play sessions a day all week. Gobble up the content and then stand there and go.. "now what?". That got old fast though, and I ended up needing to set goals so I wouldn't burn out while my friends played catchup. But then as the games blurred past I started enjoying the story, the deeper content, actually reading the NPC stuff and well.. now I'm a completionist. Gotta do it all!
.. these kids got time to crackout every night.. I gotta get my tomes and get to sleep now.
I have been playing since beta days, but still can find things to do. I just got all my combat class to 60 and above, I am also trying to get all the pvp mounts/titles, and one day I will of farmed all the ponies and birds, and get Fenrir from the Gold Saucer. There is a ton of things to do (even if you are not a raider) at end game. I have also taken many breaks from the game to keep it fresh.
After getting my tanks to 70 and a dps for when we have too many tanks, I got my primary crafter and two gatherers too and essentially decided that other than expert and deltascape 4, I'll be levelling my alt up and getting her to 70. She's been stuck in ARR for 3 years and I will focus her to be the caster/healer while my Roe is going to be my damage dealer/tank.
Levelling DRG slowly on the Roe as my wife told me I'd like how the story pans out.
What content do we have more than in HW? We have the same kind of dungeons, trials and raids, we have the same kind of crafting and gathering content and on top of that we have one job less to level. So kinda curious what new content we got in SB? Also saying that dungeons are useless thus not true content because they have no gear but at the same time counting a added Aquapolis as new content is a bit strange. Really next to having a different background in Aquapolis what truly different content did we get in SB that HW did not have? (And like I wrote, lets not forget that we also have one job less too)
On topic: Well I barely play the game right now, since I have no interest in gearing my fighting job for nothing. I have no need for savage content and for the other instances the gear I have is more than enough. (And I dont feel like running these dungeons again and again) When I am on I mostly craft and gather but only because I can finally watch all my youtube videos that I still have open. I really hope that we get some interesting content in the next big patch, otherwise this will be going way to boring way too soon.
Mainly I am playing lots of other games.
Your talkin to someone that didnt even do expert roullete because I tried to save some bit of the story for me to do at the end of hw for the longest I only did shom al hard for my tomes. A few things about what you said theres nothing in these open worlds , is content just lookin at them because once you can fly its literally nothing there are not much reason to revisit. I never mention burning out either I just stated a fact that we dont have much content after the msq, this isnt just something thats made up its just the truth.
I would of gladly had the option to spend months on the msq, because honestly the more I look at it , its the best part of the game and something you can do on your own. But SE locking everything behind the story, hence why people rush it, if they trail behind then what happens. Ill tell you what happens your behind on your weapons, your behind on your gear drops, and your behind on content people have already learned and arent willing to give you a chance to learn.
ITs downsides to taking your time tons of them. I stretched arr story out for six months, and stretched out hw prob for another six months and it had consequences on how I played the game, because nobody cares about your playstyle at the end of the day. With fights that are the only thing of intrest in the game if you didnt learn it early on you make it harder on yourself. Im no rusher I stretched the story as long as I could a month long and leveled 5 jobs in the process I have yet to even do some of my job quest on jobs IM not playing at a high level just to give me more story to do.
What Im saying is why should I have to create content for myself or why should others have to level other jobs that the may not even care about when SE could have added a bit more stuff to do outside of the current 8 fights we have. Or better yet they could stop the lame story lock they have on everything, then maybe people could go alot slower than they do. I mean how long do you think it actually takes to level a job to 70 , I just started my warrior from level 61 what sunday maybe and im already level 67 doing nothng more than , lvling roullete, 50/60 roullete, msq roullete, and a few runs of the on level sb dungeon.
Leveling a job if you ignore que times takes no more than a week in a half, and also yes the msq was the meal well nobody paid for the expansion with their sub. They actually bought a whole new game or expansion, and still got their sub taken out , how thigns are now would totally be fine if this game was free to play but this is a sub based game. WHich means we pay for things to do every month because otherwise why are people paying every month.
Still going through the Deltascape. It's pretty tricky with pugs, but doable.
I play Paladin mainly and scholar as a secondary. I've been thinking of picking up a DPS class just for funsies, it's been such a long time. I leveled ninja to 50 before heavensward so that might be something to consider leveling again, or maybe monk that's 50 too. I'll have to think about it.
So that kind of stuff, then doing some of the side quests I missed in stormblood areas, they are pretty fun story wise. They mainly focus on world building, but there are some pretty hilarious ones in the mix. I should also wrap up the post moogle missions, try to get my squadron to not be useless and.. well now that I think about it. I have a frickload of stuff to do.
IDK how people are running out of things to do. I am a professor who gets paid on a 12 month contract but only works 9 months out of the year. Patch released during summer vacation so I've had plenty of time to play (sometimes 8+ hours a day). I completed the MSQ before the end of the first week with early access and I've still barely scratched the surface on all of the things to do in SB.
My static group is currently on O4s. I only have half of the battle classes to 70, and only 2 of my crafters to 70. I have one gather at 70. Still haven't collected all of the Susano weapons yet and there are many many more things I still wish to do.
I agree with you like with many other people I agree with here there is plenty to do but is leveling jobs really content. When I say content, I mean stuff like a relic weapon, or potd, or 24 mans or anything else thats new like why not realease something new and fresh with your expansion that can keep that excitement going all the way til the next patch. Have you seen how many threads up about the same ole same , some people are burning out, and I just came in hw myself. I play mostly because for me out of all the games I played I just created the perfect character for me I guess. But I two dont get the formula of making no content really but then relying on people to level other jobs they cant gear fully for content because its not provided for us the logic seems flawed here
The argument you're using right now, however, is flawed: Other than ARR which had a huge file to work with already, Heavensward was the same way. The first expansion release had experts to grind up to get tome gear, and then the .05 released the Alexander raid. Extreme Ravana/Bismark was also available, which Susano and Lakshmi are for SB.
In short: This is the same amount of content that was released in HW.
However, you have a valid argument in the following: The endgame rotation of grinding tomes is getting tedious. I know people are burning out doing the same rotation of things for grinding endgame content. But the fact remains this is entirely the norm for the expansion and right now, short of waiting for Eureka and Ivalice, the content will be few and far between.
Take this time to level other classes. If that's not what you want to do, then you're limiting yourself at this point. HW was the same way.
The burnout is more related to the fact that it's been 4 years of grinding tomes weekly for your job as advancement in endgame. That or Savage raiding/Primal raiding. And even that is getting tiresome. Here is hoping they do something interesting and make Eureka a legitimate option. Cause even I'm getting tired of the tome grind.
Let's directly compare, shall we?
Dusk Vigil -> Sirensong
Solm Al -> Shisui
The Aery -> Bardam's Mettle
The Vault -> Doma Castle
Gubal Library -> Castrum Abania
Ravana -> Susano
Basmark -> Lakshmi
Four tiers of Alexander -> Four tiers of Omega
Tomestones of Law/Esoterics -> Tomesstones of Verity/Creation
Alexander tokens -> Omega tokens
Aquapolis -> Lost Canals of Uznair
Dark Knight/Astro/Machinist -> Red Mage/Samurai
- Crafting remained largely the same, though it saw a noticeably reduction in difficulty, making even 2* crafts easily macro-able.
- Consumables went up a tier (Grade VI materia, higher level food etc)
- Gear progression remained unchanged
I think that about gives it. Now this isn't to say the new content is bad by any means. I prefer just about every Stormblood dungeon to their Heavensward counterparts. I'll also admit side quests have been much better. Yes, they updated the jobs but I wouldn't necessarily all that "new content." Either way, very little has actually changed from what we're all accustom to. Stormblood played it just as safe as Heavensward. I can somewhat appreciate that for an expansion launch, but from 4.1 onward, there isn't any excuses. We still have an awful glamour, housing and inventory system-- with only the latter seeing any attention thus far. And they only released half.
Stormblood is perfect and did content better than Heavensward. The thing the devs need to learn though is that we need a relic quest earlier rather than late. Some of us treat the relic quest as our raiding.
It's been a lot of fun doing all the sidequests, dungeons, ixion/fox fate, special fates, sightseeing log.
There's a lot of achievements to work through like the fate ones, the tank ones, etc
Also there's so many classes to level, whew
I think it's just we're missing the energy and motivation we get from the relic quest. But there's still so many things to level/work through if people explore it.
true nobody cares about your playstyle.. but the only person who matters should be you.
You aren't .. creating content though. It's there, but you are limiting yourself by narrowing your definition of content to "progression" style play.
What I'M saying is it's very deep, and even WITH your rushing through the MSQ to get up on the tomestone grind train with the other bleeding edge raiders, there IS other stuff to do but you are narrowing it down to "what can I do that progresses me forever?".
well.. nothing. There is NOTHING past savage gear right now. You're right.
I'm suggesting you try looking at the other jobs and maybe take a stroll through their stories (once again, every single one got story quests from 60-70 in this expansion, EVEN FISHING!) . Don't just blow through the sidequests along the way as you go, READ the stuff and appreciate that every single one of them had a team look at it and go "ok, this happens and it's important to the player becauuuuse... " and "this might be fun to do instead of kill however many monsters, lets have them do this!"..
I'm sorry you feel you got short changed, but I don't. I got a full games worth of extra stuff and still haven't finished it all. It's been 2 months total since the expansion dropped, we've already gotten one content drop in the form of savage, and we already know "super" savage is in the pipes and the relic weapon to look forward too. Adventurer Squadron guys are going to be going on adventures with us! Grab some cool Adventurer models to bring along! (this took me months to find the ones I wanted) If this isn't enough? stop now. No joke. Find something engaging to do with your time and money and maybe come back in a couple months to see if you have an itch to play again. They've said outright this game isn't a "hardcore" experience, It sounds like you spend more than a couple of hours a day on it and that's probably contributing to burnout.
The day I feel I'm not getting my moneys worth is the day my sub stops being renewed. But I'm still here, game's still fun for me. .
\
I gotta ask: WHY NOT!?!?!? new skills, new stories, new .. widget... thingies.. OK so that last one didn't work out too well for everyone but they're working on it! How is a rework of how All the jobs work and adding new mechanics to all of them NOT new content?
Working on O4S atm.
