I looked up Besiege for XI, since I didn't play it, and I found people posting where the zone was so overloaded that people's games would completely freeze during Besieged, not responding until after the fate completes. If lucky enough to not completely freeze, they'd have low fps. Players weren't even able to try logging in during it being up. And players were requesting a cap.
So maybe your 300 cap is because of XI community?
It was done for reborn, do it again.
Never had issues like that, it was just laggy at times with infrequent weird bursts of lag, does not compare with ixion. It also depended on if it was a peak time or not and the level of attack, most people did not care about doing 1-3 as much so you never saw those issues then. It was only during a peak log in hour + being level 4 or 5 where problems started (max level of attack/ max bonus reward) When I made this post on ixion it was not a peak hour. So the worst strains of besgaid performed better then the lower end strains of ixion.
all SE needs to do is drop the items required to obtain the mount from 12 to 4 or 6.
I'm reading posts of people getting horrid lag. Getting situations where pets wouldn't load (Blue name, no hp bar.) Players due to attempting multiple times being stuck in limbo even AFTER it died.
ANd yes, Ixion's crap. We get it. They aren't going to upgrade over Ixion. Specially since when it'll end up like Odin later on where there aren't that many people do it.
Also, as an extra note, it hurts the server less to have people spread out in the zone. Ixion's issues are also just tied to the fact it isn't zone wide, but instead a spot in the zone. I've seen other games (CoughWoWCough) where shoving a bunch of people in one spot crashes the entire server.
I'd be all in favour of this. Occasional maintenance is vital, and bound to happen more often shortly after a new xpack or big patch, but I get the feeling all the downtime lately could have been condensed, or maybe SB could have done with another month or two in the oven before release if there's so much to fix.
Wow fixes it though, this has been going on for months, that would not happen in wow. Also I have no idea what you are talking about, feels like you are just ignoring what I said. That zone was not very big, it would be comparable to having um.. like 6 or 8 areas? (I forget if it was 3 x 3 or 4 x4) so it would be like 9/16 little areas of ixion mashed together, there was a ton of NPCs as well, not just 700 people. I never had problems with "Getting situations where pets wouldn't load (Blue name, no hp bar.) Players due to attempting multiple times being stuck in limbo even AFTER it died." maybe you are just reading posts that played on ps2 or something, I got no clue. It was not even consistently lagging (like ixion is) it would just be infrequent bursts with no zone crashing or on the verge of doing so. Again lag issues only happened at peak times + max reward attacks. What you are describing prob happened to people doing a max fight + peak log in hour + running game on old hardware like ps2/old internet connection.
I am not expecting them to drop a ton of money for one fate, I am expecting them to upgrade because 1. input lag, meaning it takes too long for an action to happen compared to when you press it, then you have to wait for the animation delay on top of it (I think input delays are easier to notice with crafting/gathering, where everything should be easy to notice with animation delays) 2. they keep giving excuses servers can't handle better inventory management 3. there is not enough server resources to housing. 4. there is not enough server resources to duty finer. The reason I made this thread is that this should be glaring proof something needs to be done when a zone can't handle 300 people.
Yep the car thing was a good comparison, it is like trying to fix a car while it is running so you only do a little bit at a time. in the LONG run, you spend MORE TIME fixing things, then if you pull them down for an extended period of time and fix a lot of major things at once.
It really was that bad, we learned very quickly not to logout in that area and the game frequently would freeze up in Besieged. If anyone didn't have issues with that they must have been on a very low pop server or started playing after most people had stopped doing Besieged. However, i don't think blaming FFXI players for this is very realistic. The problem is simply that the game is seriously overcrowded at the moment and SE is not going to buy more equipment that won't be needed in a month or so.
Clicked on thread, saw Balmung, moved on.....
It's not about how new the equipment might (or might not) be. There is not enough of it. They need to add resources to those "congested" servers for a start. They need to adjust their max logins so people aren't sitting about waiting in a long queue to log in. They need to understand those servers are going to have more people in a zone for special hunts/fates, etc. They need to stop gimping things like inventory and housing and using the "resources" excuse. That just can't wash - if you do not have the "resources" to accomodate your player base, something is very wrong.
Putting servers in AU could ease issues on some of the congested JP/US servers (only a masochist in AU would be using an EU server)
I just got my mount today. It spawned 3 times today in 20 mins. I got gold first so 11 horns and then instance 1 I got ZERO credit. Instance 3 I thankfully got silver and then my mount at Rhalgr's. It had NIGHTMARISH lag and I just got lucky. The mount has no unique music sadly but it's lovely. I feel bad for players that DC during the fate. I dont know if SE's servers can handle the fate if my server is small. It must be truly nightmarish on Balmung or Gilgamesh.
It is really bad. It seems like they have even worse servers now then back when Odin was a thing...
Seriously SE get your shit together lol
The main reason why Ixion is so much worse than any other world boss is because he can drop a mount. :\
Man, I sure do feel the increase in quality now that the PS3 is gone!
Feels just like Odin and Behemoth did. I never met Coeurlgurina (sp?), but there isn't really anything SE can do to resolve this that makes sense financially other than tune the way credit is given out for participation.
One theory as to why the Foxy Lady FATE isn't plagued by the same issues as Ixion is that Ixion itself is built with an aggro table, limiting Gold medals to the few players that manage get to a certain level on.
That encourages more camping to try to get there first for aggro and to wait around for the next spawn to try to get a better medal next round. Plus, I think you need to do it at least twice for enough tokens for a mount? So more camping.
Foxy Lady, on the other hand, just needs activity. Do a lot to DPS and heal with a party and you'll be fine. The tokens for it's rewards are split between 2 FATES, too. One gold medal on the main fate rewards enough tokens for all 3 reward items, ears, minion, and toy, so you do it once and can move on.
I can't help but think, "Oh man. You should have been here when Odin was a thing. LOL where is the boss?" only be be cleaved and killed by him. At least you can see Ixion, despite the server lag. Odin had stability, on my server anyway, but good luck seeing him, and unlike Ixion, once his HP dropped to a certain point, he prepared Zantestuken- do or die. At that point, he usually killed the server due to being untargettable for most of the people there.
I'll gladly take lag and a silver on Ixion. You might not like it, but it's a massive improvement compared to Odin in those days. It's nice to ask for improvement, but don't act like improvement hasn't been made at all in the grand scheme of things.
Foxy lady gold is enough to get all items. Ixion, if you manage to get all gold medals, requires 6 FATEs. Or extremely lucky and the FATE rewarding you the mount directly. Unless this was changed and simply not multiple instances simply bringing back 3 chances at the FATE.
I remember healing on those lag fests oh my word... lag hiccup, mass dc'ing and..

I really love how OP posts a perfectly valid criticism yet people still find a reason to suck up to Square Enix as much as possible. It's not like we just had a huge server migration or dropped an entire piece of hardware or anything. It's not like this game doesn't both have a subscription and a cash shop. There is also a generous amount of previous event and glamour gear in said cash shop. Let's not also ignore the fact there is a level jump and MSQ skip potion, and fantasias galore. There is a lot of money going into this game. There is zero excuse any sort of open world content should ever crash or overload an instance, period.
It's only an issue right now because so many people are trying for it. It won't be worth upgrading just for the FATE in a few months' time.
Everyone uses the line that they won't upgrade the servers as this is only the expansion rush, however, if you don't upgrade the servers then you lose a good percentage of the people who joined. Upgrading the servers will help you retain those new players.
The consequences of not upgrading the servers is that you lose this new revenue and gain a reputation for bad servers which will drive off potential new customers
It does, say what you like, it does OP.
Speaking as a long time player, the core group of ffxiv players hasn't changed much. Everyone swarms in for the expansion rushes through the msq and raid content then leaves. The rest of us are still here once they go. SE isn't losing a thing, and is saving money by not wasting money buying equipment that won't be needed after a little while. I think it's kind of funny that people keep going on about how we're losing so many players when in reality, FFXIV is going strong.
To those who call anyone suckups for stating reality, try learning to program. It's not as easy as you think it is and you often can't make huge changes once the base is laid down without reworking the whole game.
That is a fine point. But it doesn't cover why the problem exists at a more fundamental level. We know the zone is busy. But why 300 as someone stated about inventory. My god if the game has this many issues because they decide to rfresh character data every 5 seconds maybe it is time to evaluate that. Also not sure about other servers but Odin till the end of 2.0 and depending on spawn in 3.0 could be hell. I have timed it and still had info from the Odin fight coming 15 mins after he died.
As much as I hate(loathe) Atma/Crystals. Farming a zone for a pop item that allows you to enter an instance that drops special items seems better to me. You have people farming fates helping in the zone at all times so they can go do an instance later. Make Fate titles in the future not for doing 30 min ones but for completing all the regular ones. I never understand the design big and fail over the design around what you have and succeed model 14 has.
