So uh... whats up with the end game gear designs lately?

The game is in a weird state. Honestly, the gear is awful. The statistics seem randomly decided by the team. The gear is not even coherent with the classes.
Meanwhile, Yoshida seems so pissed off by the players. He looks terribly tired and I think he should stop working for the game and let someone else, someone fresh, take his place. He's done too much and he can't do anymore. He was happy before to do live letters now he looks like he doesn't care.

And yeah stop the robes !

I don't really care for the Omega or Creation sets, either. It's sort of a bummer, but I can always glamour them away, and I'm glad that some people are enjoying them. /shrug

I at least like the Verity sets (for the most part), though.

I'm not a fan of the new creation tome gear (it all seems a bit been-there tired to me), but have been pleasantly surprised with the new gear overall, and there is plenty to choose from for glamours.

Still not seen anything even approaching the monstrosity of the 120 caster gear. Thank god. LOL.

For both Genji(I need healing!) and Creation my Amano-esque WHM gear will stay my look. Receiving the mantle on WHM has made me really like the archmage look and now I want more mantles!

I like them both. Very unique in design

Omega, so far, is FFV themed and the Genji set is an iconic set in that game. It makes sense, even if it isn't to everybody's tastes. I'm indifferent myself and will glamour over it but there's definitely people out there who like and appreciate it.

With how popular Overwatch is across the world and in Japan, it would've been nice to have a colour scheme or design scheme to match him if the set had his name in it.

I liked the winner tank set for...tanks..and I am kinda disappointed that they just remade it for DDs and healers too, especially since I was looking forward to the DD winner set. Now we look all the same in the omega stuff and a lot like each other in the tomestone stuff. I just have no motivation to gear up right now since nothing is looking that great and there is simply not much content where you need higher gear if you dont raid.

At least if they have introduced the DD and healer winners to we would have at least three really different sets. Now they will probably do the same thing to the DD and healer winner set too which makes it way easier for them to create the armor for the next new tomestones..

Somehow SB really feels lazy with all the gear choices.

I still don't understand why people still think all the winning sets would be in the game at launch. Not including the tank set the other contests happened very close to Stormblood so they need time to create the set and actually make the set onto each race. They will do the same thing for the other sets because that makes sense why have a mess of different sets where they don't even match the theme it would look ugly together.. Also I'm pretty sure the DD contest was only for Caster/Ranged didn't include Melee.

Honestly I think some people are just being over dramatic at this point. Not wanting to gear because you don't like the design? What...? If I don't like a set I just glamour it to my AF3 gear, you won't like everything they add but there will be others who love what they add. I for example love the creation gear and how they adapted the tank winner to the other roles. I didn't play tank so I was kinda sad I would miss it but they made other versions of it which makes me happy.

And here's me as a tank, wishing one day they'd give us some tank glamours that looked like light armour, something more from the monk or machinist wardrobe. (And didn't swing all the way the other direction to swimsuits).

How many variations on full plate knight armour does one person need?

I may not like the Genji set at all but I dislike even more that people keep associating it with Overwatch or saying it should have a reference.

The 61 dungeon tank gear is the i250 crafted physical DPS gear that might be what you are after

Best bet is those new 24man sets as theme is Ivalice so except FF12 or some Tactic's design on those items.

Basically, the best stuff already came out and now they are unable to continuously top themselves.

Only thing wrong with the top armor is that the mouth shows.

They need to hire their own personal Tim Gunn for fashion feedback.

They need to be more simplistic with the gear designs in my opinion. The Valerian sets are simple and people love them.

Also It's quite ironic because the same artists who worked on Tactics Ogre also work for this game, too. I guess they're not in-charge of gear design.

People will never be happy when it comes to appearances. I wouldn't be surprised if they pay threads like this remarkably little mind.

God they ugly af. We need a better glamour system. One which will allow us to glamour gear based on jobs and not role. This will solve the problem with the multi job gear sets and the glamour of them.

More robes for healers... ughh. :(

Im glad glamour exists because I will be glam-ing these so fast... In the future could we get some gear styles more akin to the lvl 70 AF sets. Those were for the most part very stylish. I'll be glamouring back to my Bard lvl 70 AF set for sure.

I disagree. There's been a wider variety of outfits for all jobs, not just robes for healers or plate armor for tanks, but more variety. Choosing to limit yourself is a you problem, not the games.

Well, look at it this way: If the best gear in the game was a burlap sack, elitists would be seen all over Eorzea looking like sacks of potatoes. Elitists would not want to hide their "achievement" no matter how hideous the reward. It may look like poo but it's a status symbol nonetheless. That's why glamour sets are mostly level one items and purchasable from the Mog Store. If you care about your appearance only, you have hundreds of cheap and good looking glamour items. If you care about looking "gud" in front of the noobs, just be patient because the next ugly set of "I did it before it was cool" gear is inbound shortly.

The gear sets in stormblood are restricted to class, and even the crafting and gathering gear is restricted along with it. in addition, the numbrr of all classes gear in SB is pretty low, lower than what was about in previous installments.

I wanted to put my two cents in...

The armors in post end story in SB has not been good at all. I mean the Samurai armor is kinda cool.....even as a WHM but the newest armor doesn't look innovative to me. It's just every other armor i see that's given to you in random storymode quests

Have you also noticed the winners and the runners up draws armor that looks almost like every other armor that's already been made?

I desire new armor and new creativity so much...it just bothers me when I see another carbon copy of what we had before (with the exception of a few flare here and there)

There is the same argument applied to the most recent, level 1 glamour, which usually cost millions to purchase off the market boards.

It's as much a status symbol either way.

If you are a resident of Ala Mhigo, it's cheap as chips though. Can't figure out where they get all the gil, those NPCs, but apparently they are very wealthy, either that or it's available at vendors exclusive to NPCs... ;)

I loved the 120 caster gear. We finally got separate hood options. I rate the 120 gear as one of the best.

As far as leveling gear/dungeon gear/endgame gear goes. It's pretty much EXACTLY the same as it was in Stormblood, the only exception being that Crafting/Gathering gear is now restricted from combat classes. (Remember, in 3.0 we also had job restricted AF2 sets. These were the weekly tome armors and there was actually 1 entire set of armor less, we wouldn't be having our current contest winner set for instance.)

I have to say this is a really fundamental truth that seems to have been lost. I mean, I know that what is ugly to some isn't ugly to others, but there are basic fundamentals of style that should at least guide the aesthetics of gear design. I love Japanese style armor, I do not like Japanese style armor over muted colored robes all of which looks like it was washed in a dilute paint called urban drab. Yet that's what we have. I hate armor that completely obscures gender and body shape, and yet that describes about 90% of the gearsets in the game, including the gear design contest winners. It shouldn't be hard to make gear that is pleasing both to the eye and to players who want a level of immersion. However it often seems to me that the gear designers lean heavily towards immersion and forget about pleasing the eye.

It's an MMORPG, I spent a long time creating Kosmos, and I've played her for 4 years now (longer if you include her previous incarnations), and you know, I love taking down the bad guys, but darn it I want to look good while doing it.

In my opinion, sets almost never look good when you have the entire set on. The Creation set all together is super ugly, BUT I love the healer Creation chest with other gear. In the end, it's all up to taste whether or not you think it's ugly... just because you didn't get a set you find attractive doesn't mean everyone thinks it's unattractive.

On the topic of the Genji gear...I don't mind it existing as it's a matter of taste (I actually like the healer chest, but I'll never wear it simply because the cloth skirt is part of it, and I don't like how that looks...there's no reason for it to not be the bottoms model), but I was expecting a completely different aesthetic for Omega gear and I don't really understand how it fits... I'm glad they tried something different, and I hope they continue to do so, but the Genji armor just makes no sense as the raid gear.
