SE's Responsibility: Housing Situation

Now all that said the housing system is clearly very flawed and needs fixed (being on Balmung makes this readily apparent- I got into a huge argument with an FC I used to be in over them owning multiple houses that we werent actually using), but these guys don't deserve to be harassed for buying empty plots that they never had any reason to believe would ever be put to use. If I were them I would have locked every single one of those houses down and blacklisted anyone I even saw in the ward, because this is literal entitlement and people are being nasty to these dudes when they didn't do anything wrong. By all counts their behavior in this situation is nothing short of graceful, it's not their job to accommodate new people- that's up to Square.

just because there is nothing preventing it in the game doesn't mean that its right. they are hording a limited resource in the game, sitting back and stating "well let them eat cake".

I have trouble understanding things from their perspective. They did it originally because they took a dead ward and made it simulate life by perching all the plots and doing what they want with them. But now that there is people that want to live their, they hold their hand. I understand that there are plenty of people that pick up plots and just sit on them doing nothing. But what's to stop them from deciding to release plots and create a community? instead of 2 people owning 28 plots. what if it's 28 like minded people owning 28 plots. Then they would not be just simulating life. it would be a living ward. It would turn into an example of what a ward should look like. It would be challenging to fine 26 other like minded people, but they are willing to put in the effort of simulating a living ward, why not go the next mile? it would turn the light from them looking like snobbish hordes to examples of what a housing neighborhood should look like. LOL.... I guess all the long time mateus crafters should just give all their gil away too. It's not fair to all these new characters that they have such a head start! Again: it is not this couple's responsibility to give up their houses they worked and paid for legitimately. Take your complaints to SE, because they've done nothing wrong. If SE decides to take things away, or decides issues like this are what finally get them off their butt to fix the housing system, that's for them to decide. Not you.

Honestly, this wouldn't even be an issue if SE hadn't of made incentives for our server.

Just think no incentives: dead as hell server like it has always been. Plots abandoned for months-it would've stayed that way. Hell, most of the Goblet that I have my FC house in had maybe seven houses at most.

I have no sympathy for transfers who are whining about not having a house.

If SE wanted players to have collections of houses there wouldn't be character based restrictions on house ownership. That these exist are sufficient evidence that these limited resources were not meant to be gobbled up by singular entities.

Given how much of the game's design like the armory and retainer systems seemed focused on not needing alts I imagine this situation was a matter of simple oversight. SE's designers simply never considered the idea of folks leveling up tons of alts for the sole purpose of hoovering up limited resources. It's an aberrant play pattern done only for it's own sake. There's nobody out there going "Why yes I have 8 characters I all love and play equally, each with their own FC I value as a community. That's why they all needed houses I couldn't leave any of these beloved characters or FCs without the home to support them" It is a greedy power play and one nakedly obvious on its face as one.

If the idea this might ever happened had even crossed the designers mind you bet there would be account-based housing restrictions in place. This is a result of an oversight and while it's not a violation of any rule coded into the game or put in place by the ToS, it does seem to be a gross violation of the spirit of the rules & limitations in place.

Or, HPDelron, you're wrong and you should pipe down? Because you are, and you should. You don't get to call it a "Greedy power play" because your feelings are hurt. These are people who "worked" for what they have, and as an actual Mateus native, I'm all for it. Guess what? There are at least two people out there who said -exactly- what you sarcastically indicated they wouldn't, and since the people who are now complaining had a year-ish to get a plot in this location and waited, that's on them.

Risu - it's not playing the victim when they're being abused. And hey, why should they have to do -extra- work to find 'suitable people' to sacrifice hundreds of hours of effort to? Nah.

well, like it's not against the ToS to own an entire ward. its not abuse if its not against the ToS. the only section of the ToS that refer to abuse would be Section 3.3 where it says not to use offensive or profane language. so as long as you stay within though guide lines its not against the ToS and its not abuse. As far as them building a community, I never said they had to. but if they wanted to make themselves not look like a bunch of greedy house hoarders to a large section of the community there are ways that they could do that. But instead they don't, probably because someone with enough charisma to make more than 1 friend doesn't need to surround themselves by doll houses. (am i being malicious and mean spirited in my statements... yes, but there is no profanity or offensive language so its not abuse as its within the ToS)

Again, all the transfers could have had housing for quite some time to prevent this. They didn't want to. Their loss. It's not the two players' fault.

sadly only thing ya probably can try and do is say they are disrupting ya game play but that may be a very long stretch

They explained their position in their tumblr post; they didn't like anyone else's decorating style. I believe they even stated that they didn't want neighbors... Something about other players jumping on their houses or some such.

Those two players have done nothing wrong whatsoever. Everything they did is within the rules, and they deserve what they have. This is coming from someone who quit for years, watched Mateus wards continue on as ghost towns as my wife used free logins to get seasonal stuff, and just now decided to resubscribe. Not a single house available in a single ward or district. I was very surprised given that just a few short months ago, the last I saw inside Mateus, it literally was a ghost town in all the housing wards still.

I'm checking every single day multiple times hoping for a small house to become available. Haven't seen a single house become available yet, in any size, in my two'ish weeks of playing again. I have not a single beef with those players who have those 28 houses. More power to them. It's not their fault.

Is it wrong that I can't find a house? Yep. Is it any player's fault? Nope. It's SE's fault. The housing system is full of awful flaws, and SE is responsible for every player or free company who wants a house but has no access. No player is at fault for playing the game that SE created within SE's rules. SE's rules just happen to be bad. Blame them, not your fellow players for simply playing the game.
