Why am I not seeing more shirk?

You're absolutely right. Shirk isn't required but it does make tank swaps a lot smoother, and given that Tanks are not, as some would argue, required to do more than maintain enmity, mitigate incoming damage, and position the boss – things which don't require too much effort to begin with – "SQUEEZING every last point of DPS" possible is a benefit to the party in and of itself as it facilitates faster clears, even if that speed increase is marginal at best.

I mean, I've never disagreed with you on anything here, I just think that if you wanna play optimally, you should expect yourself to think about this kind of stuff. I've forgotten to switch out too, it happens, no big deal.
