14 Chapters Later Which Final Fantasy did you prefer?

1. IX 2. X and 3. XII (though I disliked the second half of the game)

I loved IX's world and characters, it went back to the roots of FF. XII had fun gameplay since I was hooked on XI for a long time and a fantastic world though I didn't really like the characters that much, nor the story after about 50% of the game. It was still a really fun game to play with lots of sidequests - something I think XIII lacked. Didn't have much room to explore in that game, something which I love to do. Like going around the world and finding towns and caves or finding secret places in towns. I felt the music in XIII was a bit too techno-pop-y for my tastes, I enjoyed the older stuff from 1-IX (mostly IX). Not really bashing it of course, it's not a terrible game but I prefer being able to explore a lot. Though Hope was a really annoying character.

FFT, FFV, FFIV and FFIX were memorable for me.

When I saw FFT at a Blockbuster way back I thought, "Whoa, FF has a strategy game?". It was right there I fell in love with the job system. Playing FFV later brought the same effect, who wouldn't love mixing and matching jobs to your heart's content for a game style?

FFIV had a great story. I played FFVI, it was ok, but it didn't strike me as the game I heard was so hyped up for in it's days.

FFIX had the story, world, and gameplay. The gear-ability system allowed for a lot of mix and matching for tailoring your characters. The only thing I didn't like was that stupid red light/green light mini game that showed up immediately after a boss with no save in between! (I had a close call on it, was it really a game over if that clock ran out?)

Final Fantasy IX all the way!

Err... what exactly do you mean? I finished the game recently and can't remember that kind of minigame X_x

the only thing that bothered me about 12 was the stupid amount of rare drop farming.

Enter the same room 60000000 times to get a chance for a chest that drops excalibur. not fun OR hard,just wastes time.

After you fight Ark (in ship form), and you're back in Kuja's palace with the team members you didn't take. And Cid has to break out your other team from their cells before the floor opens up on them into a lava pit (or something) below.

6, 7, 8, 11, 12, Tactics = my favorites.

Tactics hands down. Though the system has been torn apart by fans nowadays, it is one of the most memorable games I've ever played. Sequels not so much.

Chronicles was a good game with lots of unused potential and a lackluster story; gameplay seemed to me like a herald to the triumphant return of the seiken densetsu series. It was kind of like an MMO but without internet access and thus no way to realistically party up. Unfortunately i've only gotten to play the first one, so I've no idea whether or not the sequels actually harnessed that potential or got worse.

I'd like to see a new, High-Def FFT made on a console or PC rather than a handheld; it'd be nice to make that into an MMO as well because you give new meaning to coordination when you're playing a strategy game and you can't control every unit on your team.

FFXII IZJS: Turbo button and chests respawn only one room away = win ^^

FFX is the best and by far from 7 (just my opinion)

Then VII, then, IV.
I think VI and VII integrated some of the best balances between class definition and customization, while IV brought static classes definition to another level.

I liked playing X a lot, but the ending was terribly disappointing.
IX was just a combination of what worked in the previous games. It was fun while playing but like fastfood, it left a feeling of dissatisfaction once it was finished.

XII was fun and had an innovative game play and character progression, but the game was just a purpose for a massive sidequest that took predominance over storyline.

It's hard to compare XI with those. It feels like an online version of FFIV, with predefined classes that earn abilities at specific levels without much customization outside of gear.
I could see FFXIV having a similar progression over FFXI the same way FFVI and VII progressed over IV, as they are already trying to improve customization.
All they need to do, IMHO, is to find, and lock, what defines the most the different classes. In VI it was innate abilities and natural stats (before messing with the espers), in VII it was limit breaks, which is more or less the ancestor of weapon skills or TP moves.

FFXI was my favorite.

2 (4) and 6. 5 was decent as well. X-2, XII, XIII have failed horribly...and now they are making XIII-2 which will fail even more than XIII.

My Faveorites:

Final Fantasy 4
- Awesome Music, Best rpg at time of release.

Final Fantasy 5
- Option to change class was awesome, multiple World maps.

Final Fantasy 6
- Best ingame story, Best FF soundtrack, Perfect characters, The Ultimte Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy 7
- Brilliant story/Music/Gfx, 2D+3D polygons...best of 2 worlds combined into to 1 game.

Final Fantasy 11
- Awesome adventure with endless options, Aweseom Music, Brilliant UI & Control, no.1 of Online games.

Final Fantasy 12
- Felt like FFXI offline with a taste of FFTactics, spanking GFX, NM's, Cool Mobs.

Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)
- The shitz ofc. Brilliant Soundtrack, Cute & ond of the most wellmade games ever.

Enjoyed "FF: Mystic Quest" too, even though it was abit diffrent.
Also the remakes of Final Fantasy 1 & 2 for PSX.

I'd love to see these old classics either remade or re-released on either XBOX360 / PS3.

I think FF7 is the best one! The story-line and materia system is just perfect.
In second place, for me, it's FF10, i loved the storyline here too, the battle system with the eons and the turn-bar. I just didn't like the character exp tool.
After 7 and 10 theres 9,8 and 6

I personally dislike everything from ffx-2 to ff13, and now they announced ff13-2.. sheees...

i Played FFXI for 6 years and i still love it, but i think 11 and 14 are just different games from other FFs. So far it's:FFXI > FFXIV. I hope they'll work hard on 14 and learn from ff11 mistakes to make this game worth to keep final fantasy name ;)

Or better yet, the NGP. Give us remakes not unlike what they're doing for the latest(lol) FFIV remake with some serious attention to detail.

Not much for handhelds, but guess that would be fine.
Would prefer sitting in my couch playing them on my big ass LCD tv in HD lol

I didn't care for 7, 8, or 9 as I did the classics. Never played 10, 12, or 13. If you came into the series on any of these later titles, I hope you check out the link and learn a bit about their predecessors. Poor Mystic Quest, the red-headed step child.

Here's for hoping they return to the classic appeal of the series.

FFIX is my favorite FF game then FFX is second
Those are the only FF games that I could restart and beat again

My fav was and still is FFVII, was the first and only game i had tears in my eyes from. I think ppl knows why.
Other best FF's for me are VI, IX, X, XII, XIII.

Ten was the best. It's been downhill since then.

FFXI and soon to be FFXIV (I can feel it)

...Im not so sure about "Soon"...

I have to say 7 since it got me into the game in the first place.
