I am so happy I didn't level to 70 as a DPS!

The main problem is that people aren't flexible. Yes, it sucks that your favorite job is a DPS and queues are insane right now. But surely there's gotta be either a healer or tank job that you still enjoy playing?

And I'm going to point and laugh at SMNs complaining about the queue. You have a way around it.

I actually like leveling a DPS to 70 first, because we can use the MSQ and sidequests for most of the EXP...

There'll be easier queues for a tank/healer, so I'd want level them up after. :3

Hit level 70 yesterday as RDM. You should have leveled to 70 on a dps class using msq. Your tank could have dungeon grinded no prob. xD

All tank are now equal which doesn't make them fun anymore.

Yup I learned my lesson the first time leveling a healer or tank to the new cap first then taking years to level one dps because of the Ques so I leveled SAM to 70 quick and now will go back for my AST.

This!! We had a really bad healer in ala mhigo and they died at zenos pretty early in the fight and that PLD not only healed us dps and himself, he also kept aggro....PLD went from one of the worse to the best tank currently hands down, the other two barely compare now

This is why we have so many different means to gain EXP.

I'm struggling to choose a job to level first as despite being a healer main, I'm very pleased with the changes to Paladin, and love the design of Red Mage.

But yes, this DPS queues being a nightmare was foreseen when it was revealed Samurai was the second and final job for Stormblood that was also a DPS, and that we weren't getting a new tank or healer in 4.0.

This so much. I too main SMN, and I have never yet switched over to run as SCH, no matter the queue time.

It is no fun being main healer, for me.

I get - or got - jollies being a "backup" healer - pulled off many Tank saves with Physick - but that was before Physick was nerfed for SMN when 4.0 dropped. Now I can self-heal with Drain; and back-up Raise, but I took Physick off my toolbars, it's so ineffective at L60+.

I have ~30min DPS leveling dungeon queue's on primal as DPS - doesn't bother me because I can do anything I want open world while waiting...gathering, crafting, hunts, FATES, etc. I can even have my Chocobo buddy out with me :) I suppose if ALL you do is run dungeons then yeah, you are SoL right now...maybe get a Netflix sub too? lol

Pretty much. Chaining dungeons as a DPS has always been problematic and the problem isn't a Stormblood centric or specific one. The trick was to always chain with a tank/healer.

DPS queues were always going to be worse because they added 2 new dps jobs. And when everyone cried out "Well, at least it can't get worse," Square Enix stood up and said "hold my beer."

And then we got the balance changes.

And then they pissed off a number of tanks and healers causing them to switch to dps as well.

The OP is right. I don't know if anyone else has long DPS ques but it is bad for DPS. Most DPS don't mind the wait especially if they really want to main that role. I main PLD/DRG. Tried to do a level 50/60 ROU as DRG lol no not happening said I was above 50 and kept that number for 30mins. Anyway, there is nothing to be done about it. Even if they had added a tank/healer role (wish they did) It wouldn't really have made a difference. the fact remains that people who main DPS will still main DPS meaning DRG/MNK and so on would jump to RDM and SAM. If they added a new tank role only People who main tank would go to it, so just trading a PLD/WAR/DRK for a new tank.For My data center, My GF (healer) and I check PF to assist those looking for tanks or healers and we help without asking for gil. If more tanks and healers do this we can at least help the few that need it. Still, sucks but as I said more tank roles wouldn't change this In my opinion. No main DPS would see a new Tank role and jump to it before RDM or SAM. I know people are saying well there are main Tanks who switched over to DPS, well if that's true then that is indeed a problem, tho I honestly don't think those players jumped instantly. Like myself, My goal is to achieve level 70 with PLD then go to my other jobs. But That's just my opinion.

This is probably why they made pvp dump mountains of exp on everyone this patch...

I levelling Sam through msq. It is my main. Xd.

This is what happens when you only add 2 dps classes and 2 of the most wanted dps classes at that instead of the normal add one of each role. Granted i like the 2 new dps and the combat system i think we do need a new tank and healer, but before that balancing is needed.

But yea glad i picked AST, killing mobs in the field is painful but the que times are awesome.

If only they had not break WHM i'm would have probably stick with a healer but hey, "forced" to play DPS o have fun :/

Who cares about dungeons queues when you can pvp your way through 70?

I have a healer and tank friend..... ZERO quene time. I'M LOVIN IT!

For some reason tanks just don't seem as fun in this game as they do in WoW for me, maybe it's just the aesthetic of them, but I'm loving Red Mage, it's pretty much the perfect class for me lol I love magic/melee hybrids.

dps ques never bothered me, unless those pesky 9002's keep popin up. I mostly just work on my college homework. allows me to kill 2 birds with one stone, I can game and get hw out of the way

The biggest problem i see with your post, OP, is that you are stating that you will ONLY use dungeons to level up.

FATEs are available. Challenge Log entries as well. You can also level from 50-60 through Palace, which is also excellent. From 60-70, FATEs can be done while you wait in queue to get the bonus xp mob to get a real boost when doing Exp Bonus FATEs with it. Add the fact you can do Hunts from 60-70 now that you've unlocked all of them, and you can and should be able, as a dps, to solo with your Chocobo up to level 67 mobs (with rest between mobs), which should give you nearly 1 million exp per day...

You're limiting yourself if you're only doing runs. The queue methodology was set in a fashion that you can do other things while you wait. You can either work on gatherers, crafters or other, among a phletora of options, while waiting.

Simply sitting and waiting for a queue is rather illogical and a detriment to how you should be playing the game optimally. Saying that, if you want to just do dungeons, at the start of an expansion where two DPS classes were just recently introduce, I commend your crazy venture and hope you don't go insane at just waiting for those. Nah, this can't be right. Yoshi P said there would be no increase in queue times because tanks would keep playing tanks and healers would keep playing healers!

Clearly, DPS are only imagining the hour-plus queue times.

Remember the 2.xx? DPS queue was a problem that HW solved thanks to now heal and tank job. We are back to the 2.xx problem... I unfortunatly expected this to happen.

I got between 600-700k in the 65 range, and now that I'm 68, I get 812 700xp every Frontline game.

My Queue Times are ~30-40min for every Roulette or Dungeon/Trial with my Redmage.
Its ok if i remember on Terra Release.

I don't know if it's cause I got used to healer ques just before expansion when I leveled my healers, but the DPS quest have been hell as of now. Easily 30-40 min wait for story dungeon. Luckily I'm still not that far in Stormblood so I'll probably change to one of the healers.

I do raise hat to each and every tank in this game. I tried it and man it is hard in XIV. And I used to main tank in Wow (and had all classes with tank specs too cause tanking is fun).

I'm currently stuck in the story behind the first MSQ dungeon. Tried getting into it twice last night, and got 90002 errors after a 45 minute queue both times. That was fun.

I think I'll just wait a while until some of the congestion slows down. I don't have the patience for that level of BS.

Dark Knight Pre-Patch was actually quite the fun. But Stormblood killed the class. It's now boring as hell. So boring, that I'm more okay to wait 40 minutes in a dungeon queue. I was a former DRK-Tank but with Stormblood i changed to DPS.

That's not just you. I feel like something is missing in tanking in FFXIV to make it fun.

The consensus I have gotten from random folks I've run dungeons with since 4.0 launch goes like this:

Tanks -

3 WARS, all hate the changes, feel like it's a nerf, not as fun to play as it was previously
2 PLDS, both like the adjustments
0 DRKS, seriously I think DRK died in SB

Healers -

2 WHMs, 1 said like the no stance dancing but still enjoying it and other said it's their best job but so far don't really like it yet, holding out final say until they get to 70
2 AST, 1 indifferent mindset but so far so good at 63, 1 other enjoying changes
1 SCH, did not like changes but did not elaborate

DPS -

2 SAM, both loving it!
2 RDM, both also loving it!
1 DRG, feels less bloated, smoother overall combat mechanics but gets bored after opener until certain skills return.

I'm glad they didn't make SAM a tank because then it would be boring as hell. That is the main issue with SB. It made tanking extremely unfun. IDK how the devs thought they could nerf two tanks and buff the other off the charts without some sort of backlash. But I guess the design the devs had in mind was to make tanking as boring as possible. I really don't understand how they managed to take so many steps backwards in the tanking department. The DPS options for this expansion are just way more interesting than the tanks now. I expect to see way more paladins from here on out. And there's one less DRK out there too. I will miss 3.0 drk. 4.0 drk is a joke.

As a War, I'm having fun. Yes, there are things I miss, yes I was nerfed, relying on Overpower alone for AoE agro is challenging but makes the job feel different from the other tanks. I both hate and love that last one. I find Onslaught is just a useless party trick, but that's a new tool I can ignore. But overall I'm having fun.

But I tell you this: as soon as I get to the level cap, I want to level my DRG, and I'm very interested about RDM, so there will be one less tank out there speeding up your queues. Since there is no new tanking jobs, I predict as soon as tanks hit the cap, they are going to start trying out the new jobs, and DPS queues will just get worse.

Maybe the dps options are fun but playin a dps just seems impossible , the ques are so long that it seems you cant get anything done at all. Most people had to spam potd just to get their same and rdm to level 60 jus sucks man really bad how awful the ques are.

I always thought the first week of expansion is the best time to lvl a dps because later on no tanks or healer will do them LOL.

I wish they simply had gone for 5 man groups for this expansion's dungeons. A third DPS would had made a big difference for queue times, if all they were going to add was DPS jobs.
