Exactly, they're working as hard as they can for us. I mean when the disaster struck Japan earlier this year the game went offline because of the state of things. They got the game up and running again as soon as they could through sacrificing the comfort of their own working conditions.

Operating the servers for these services makes up 11.6% of the total power consumed by our Tokyo office (based on February 2011 records). We have shut down our air conditioning system (8.8%) and enacted other power conservation measures, such as reducing lighting in our offices, to achieve over 10% in energy usage reductions. With these energy saving measures in place, we will be able to bring our servers back online and restore service to FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline on Mar. 25, 2011 4:00 (PDT).
They've done everything in their power to fix the game and add content as quickly as they can. And yet here we are again in another thread about how they aren't working hard or fast enough. We simply need to be patient at this point. The game is being redesigned while simultaneously adding content.
Dear OP; Please shut your face hole.
I completed the last patch well over a month ago, and that was playing at a leisurely pace. The updates happen way too slow, that's for sure
Yeah, Ifrit was a seasonal event.
YOUR FACE WAS A SEASONAL EVENT.
lol >.>
you guys need to PvP that "Stuff" out.
<<<<this right here, if this doesn't happen the game is over in a few months just like the first launch. it needs this to happen and with enough content for people who played for 1 or 2 years already to think this to be true. ps3 relaunch might save the game but not if everyone who left on the pc don't come back cause it's still lack of content for them.
i personally would rather them shut down the game completely for the next year. but lol i'm probably just leaving till 2.0 so is easy for me to say. but they have a 2.0 team and they have what they will give us now for the next year. it won't be enough. is why i chose not to stay but for those who do, they should understand by now what they paying for. personally like the op said i doubt the 2.0 launch will arrive on time, the 6months he mentions is probably right. for every mistake they fix they probably making 3more mistakes. understaffed or not, they are probably very over worked. a 2years more then normal push for a late launch. unless everything on that end goes the way it should be, and or they added a very large margin for mess ups into that time frame(most likely) then maybe the extra time will be spent on more content till the day of launch. (hope so) i doubt the next year no mater how many people they will ever be able to make enough content so ...i'm rooting for 2.0 launch.
being patient has lost its appeal. i don't care at this point how many times i hear be patient because the dev team is failing to get things out to keep people busy in game. i'm not saying they aren't working as hard as they can and trying to work on this game and the new version done at the same time, but they are failing on the working on the game we are playing now.
if they were going to leave the game free that we are playing now it would be one thing, but they want to charge. when you expect to charge for people to play THIS version of the game for a year you need to make THIS version worth playing and paying for. in the future 2.0 may be absolutely fantastic, but they are still wanting people to pay for this version and to do so for the next year.
Glad someone like you is not on their management. Never heard of product diversification?Quote:
A new (non KH nor FF) 3d action rpg?! (yes SE because we all know how good you are with 3d action controls...NOT)
I did enjoy Last Rampart.

these are probably the types of things going on in all mmo and gaming companies. just replace the names with SE names and it probably pretty close to it. pretty long reads but very interesting also the replies are interesting, they removed the original from the real site it was posted, that one had tons of other workers reply to it with there thoughts too. :)
this is a part that shows maybe they do need to hire more people.
""Now, it seems, is the "real" crunch, the one that the producers of this title so wisely prepared their team for by running them into the ground ahead of time. The current mandatory hours are 9am to 10pm -- seven days a week -- with the occasional Saturday evening off for good behavior (at 6:30pm). This averages out to an eighty-five hour work week. Complaints that these once more extended hours combined with the team's existing fatigue would result in a greater number of mistakes made and an even greater amount of wasted energy were ignored.
The stress is taking its toll. After a certain number of hours spent working the eyes start to lose focus; after a certain number of weeks with only one day off fatigue starts to accrue and accumulate exponentially. There is a reason why there are two days in a weekend -- bad things happen to one's physical, emotional, and mental health if these days are cut short. The team is rapidly beginning to introduce as many flaws as they are removing.""
i can only imagine the words from these workers is probably true to any mmo company. and think SE been doing this for a year and another year to go.

Some people on this forum feel like they're entitled to ordering SE at this point...
I'm not SE, I don't know how easy or not it is for them to hire more staff at this point of time. *shrug* let alone divert them to FFXIV team.
Here is a slightly more relevant article:
http://kotaku.com/5778294/is-making-...sy-a-nightmare
nope, pay them in full out of your wallet and send them to SE or wait like everyone else.
i find the the wait between patches more than acceptable
can we please close this stupid waste of a thread?
There is only going to be one thing that satisfies the content hungry population that plays the game. Some kind of massive input of content. Hopefully when releasing 2.0 they will not only port everything we have now (aside from from the limited time story line of the next year) and add a massive amount of content.
Give the population 6 months of NEW and FRESH things to do while they explore the new Eorzea. When PS3 launches do it with an expansion pack and I think all the content woe's will be gone for 99% of people. After that with the staff they have I am confident they can churn out content at a good rate with all the foundation solid and beneath them.
Content complaints come directly from a lack of content at launch and the inability to provide it in the year since then because of revamps. The little bit of content that is provided is but a crumb to a hungry beast and will never be enough. They need the whole meal at once.
SE is doing to right thing in what they are doing, there is no doubt about that. it is my strong belief that once these issues are behind us Yoshi will take this game to heights no one thought possible.
Thanks
At this rate, I'm just happy if they manage to get a patch released on schedule.
The cynic in me wants to say "it took them 5 years to make a smoldering piece of crap with a full development team, what the hell is 2 more years of redevelopement with half the staff gonna produce?" I actually happen to think that, since most of the last patches have been more fixes then content, they should release small patches for fixes that come out immediatly when they are ready, and save the larger patches for content only stuff. So, for example, when they finish working out their plans for the redevelopment of the market wards, they release it in a small patch we get on monday. Then, a week or two later, when the dev team that was in charge of doing the player search function finishes up, they bring that out in another small patch. Seems to me that would be showing the current player base more progress is being made faster than waiting for 2-3 months in between patches that have more fixes than content. Its now been over a year and there has been little to no mention of when the level limit will be increased. That by itself is making the rest of the game very stale. It should be 2 different teams with different schedules, one for fixes, and one for content.
Man, it's funny how you can rely on the same set of white knighting defenders to come into a post (that I agree is pretty inflammatory towards Square, so the white knighting is somewhat justified) to always come up when these types of comments are made. However, I'm going to defend SE on this one. Yes I'm a hypocritical git.
I'm usually one to bitch at Square myself for the way they're handling things, but I have to say you need to cool your jets. I'm as cynical and bitchy about the way Square does things as you are, and I too am disappointed by the giant gap between 1.19 and 1.20 and their haphazard way of dealing with certain things over others (them being hellbent to overhaul the class system vs. fixing how boring synthing is vs. the UI delay on EVERY action we take and the steep and unnecessary PC requirements).
However, I honestly don't think this is an issue with having enough staff - Yoshida revealed sometime back they have a team of over 200 people working on both XIV Beta (which 1.0 is) and 2.0. They are not shortstaffed, they are not underfunded. This is not some random MMO that has an underpaid and understaffed team doing 9001x the amount of work as a regularly staffed properly managed team. They're fucking Square-Enix. They have money, they have resources. I can only pull things out of my ass about the current patch development process, but do think about how much of a tiny window they have to develop and Q&A each patch. Granted, these patches are to fix what should have been in the game in the first place, but let's step outside of that train of thought and realize they're getting a ton of work done in a short amount of time. I'd rather they delay the patch and get it right than have it be released early and be in a buggy mess like XIV's release was.
tl;dr - just wait. Yes, they failed to meet their projected patch and subscription deadline of "late November - early December", but that just means that you have more time to play better games and even try out other MMOs (like SWTOR) to compare. XIV won't die and it will still be around even if you move on to other things, so you need to just calm down. Come back when it's patched and see if it's for you, else there are always other more complete games for you to play while waiting for 2.0.
maybe lol, but i like the picture that is painted with the 2 i posted only cause it just shows how horrid it is in some eyes that work in the industry. but i doubt more people will help, if it does anything it can give some people some needed rest and not have to work 24/7
According to the outline, it says late November early December. I';d say this patch is coming out in a timely manner and they have people working on patch 1.21 already and probably teams working on a whole bunch of other things. of course you're not in game development so of course you wouldn't know these kinds of things.Quote:
They take about 10 days extra to finish a patch. So for them to finish everything up till Ver2.0 it will take them 6 months extra
It's the 11th of December. We are now 1 day over the "early" december mark, well into mid-december, and we still don't have a date of release. WHat part of that is late November/ early December to you? Of course, your obviously not good at math, so you wouldn't know these things. (you see how that last part made me sound like an ***hole? Thats what it did for you too)

Hello! This is Producer/Director Yoshida.
We have pretty much solidified the date for the release of patch 1.20 for 12/14, but we are still continuing to make final adjustments and stamp out bugs, and I think we should be able to finalize this around tomorrow night. (As long as no critically huge bugs pop up.) Please wait just a bit longer for us to announce a firm date.
To my knowledge there has been no delay stated for that release date.
Couple of things. One, the 14th is not considered "early" december here in the states, its mid december. But because I have no idea how the japanese classify time within each of the months, maybe the 14th is early december for them, so cool, I can get down with that as a possability.
Two, NONE of the links you posted say the 14th anywhere on them. The first link opens up to show a bunch of people bickering about a video that I have no desire to read about, and the two links below them open up to totally blank white screens. I don't doubt that they are trying to get the patch out in a timely manner, rather, I was only pointing out that some of us grow tired of ambiguous talk about future release dates. Have you ever had your cable company or electiric company quote you on when they can be at your house to provide service? They say something like; "we will be there between 10am and 4pm" Then they never show until about 3:59 pm. Thats what SE is like giving patch release dates. While your right that its still sometimes within the time frame quoted, why not just say "it won't be out until the end of december" so that, if we get it earlier, they look like champs instead of a small team fumbeling around at the last minute like they always do?

See now thats funny because while I am sure Yoshi said so in his letter, there still hasn't been any official post from SE stating that "at this time we will be implimenting patch 1.20" So until that happens, why not go and stand with former president bush on the USS Abraham Lincoln? You can both dance around under the big MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner. Come back and rub it in on the 14th by all means, if thats when it drops. But the things Yoshi says aren't always the things that actually happen.
Also, the term "pretty much" in that statement you quoted contradicts the desire for concrete facts. Its ambiguous language used on purpose so that, should something unexpected happen that changes that date, he has a little wiggle room. Me saying something like "I have PRETTY MUCH finished my term paper" isn't the same as handing in a complete term paper. It could mean, well the papers done but I still have to make a cover sheet and write up a reference page. You see how that works?
since reading is still hard for you
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...270#post470270
Yoshi mentioned it being the 14th, and it was even translated by one of the reps to English. And I make the 3rd person to vocally state this, meaning more than likely you just didn't notice the post for reasons only you could know.
Also I heard on 30 day months the Japanese consider "early" to be 12:00AM Day 1 to 11:59PM Day 14; "middle" of the month is 12:00AM Day 15 to 11:59PM Day 16; and "late" month is 12:00AM Day 17 to 11:59PM Day 30.
One 31 day months, its basically the same except "early" month runs from 12:00AM Day 1 to 11:59AM Day 15, "middle" is 12:00AM-11:59PM Day 16, and "late" is 12:00AM Day 17 to 11:59PM Day 31.
And let's not get into the month of February!
The latest statement on the release date from this post:
In the last Letter From the Producer, he mentioned a "delay of roughly ten days" pushing 1.20 to mid-December at the latest.Quote:
In today's meetings, we confirmed that patch 1.20 can be released on 12/14 pending balance adjustments to "Good King Moggle Mog XII Cometh!" We will continue to update The Lodestone and release Topics leading up to patch 1.20.
The only remaining task is making final adjustments to the battle balance for the moogle battle! (A video is planned to be released on Friday) Moogle personnel, the monster team, the battle team and the QA team are all working as hard as possible to make their final adjustments, so please hang on a bit longer.
The only thing left to hear is if the balance adjustments will push the date past 12/14, otherwise the patch is dropping Wednesday. Either way, we'll know for sure in three days.
