Considering that a lot of people would rather talk than type the whole time. I don't see why people complain about somethign like this. As of now, you can't have XIV fullscreen if you need to use voice chat because Alt+Tab doesn't work and all that crap.

It's like they give dumb reasons why this couldn't work. I mean the language barrier is another dumb reason, didn't they say they wanted the servers for different languages? It could work out, it's just people don't want to go forward.

Thanks but no thanks, Wouldn't trust a mod for anything. Until we get ad-ons with 2.0 me and Lina will be using the stock experience Square provides.

+1 Lina, Square will have to take this into account when they revamp everything. Especially the voice chat part, language barriers shouldn't be a reason to cut it, there are ways to prevent these things. For now we can just sit and wait for SE to eventually get to it (with all respect to the current tasks on hand).

It was just my reasoning, settle down. The game is not nearly as diversed in game as the forums are. Add-ons usually cater to the people of that region. Even then, add ons are not region specific, if they want a certain add on they're free to use it. It's just in a forein language. It's a bit asinine to join a voice chat with people who don't speak the same language as you. Have you ever tried to hold a discussion with someone who spoke only of a language that you cannot speak? It's rather hard to convey what you're trying to explain. ESPECIALLY in a game like FFXIV.

The reason why I hate using voice chat is because it's just annoying.

It's annoying to wear a headset. I prefer to play with open air speakers and a desktop microphone, but I understand that's not optimal for voice chat because the mic picks up what the speakers say. I have NEVER found a wired headset I feel comfortable wearing simply because of the funky slack the headset has to take to connect to my PC.

However, for PS3 users, the option to use it should be available. Emphasis on option.

PC users, I know we all use vent/skype etc. However for PS3 users, an option like voice chat will be greatly appreciated.

As a PC user and LOTRO player, which has a built-in voice chat, this feature would be greatly appreciated.
I support OP suggestion!

I swear they already said they wont put this in due to language differences.

I see your Call of Duty and raise you Battlefield series and Valve games. Easy to mute/unmute, crystal clear voice chat, perfect in-game integration.

And if you want an example from a small developer, go check out Heroes of Newerth's VOIP.

I'll also counter your "don't have to listen to stupid idiots" argument by saying that it's applicable to text as well. I have to deal with stupids in text chat as well. I also have to deal with the same stupids in-game, sans any form of communication. I can't stop people from running around in circles, or crowding around and then AFKing on top of important NPCs, or being nuisances. Stop being so oversensitive.

And before you tell me that it's easy to mute people in text chat with a simple system command and it's hard to mute people over VOIP, all of the games I listed above have text commands to both mute VOIP and ignore text coming from an offending person. Heroes of Newerth even has a one-click button next to someone's portrait to mute them, without needing to pull up a special VOIP menu or mute menu.

There are tons of people even in games that have built-in VOIP that don't use it. For pickup groups and small scale stuff, it's really not something that's ever required or expected from people (if anything, just listening). End-game groups will require this and probably rely on it, but it's already happening now, so it doesn't really matter.

There are also (expensive) microphones that you can buy that cancel speaker and background noise. If I wasn't living in an apartment, I would be getting a kick ass speaker system and microphone instead of a headset.

Part of the issue is due to a Windows 7 feature called "Windows Snapping." What the program I reference does is disable this feature for the window you select. There is no direct interaction with Final Fantasy XIV, so it's not a "mod." Windows Snapping can also be turned off via your control panel, however this will result in all programs losing Windows Snapping and not just FFXIV. Since most enjoy the feature, the program mentioned is the best bet to allow for Alt+Tab with FFXIV while having a Full Screen view.

Edit so DeadRiser doesn't get a hernia, as far as built-in voice chat, I'm not opposed because I won't use it either way, but it's a feature that will be left dead in the water much like any other MMO voice chat.

There is a button called mute, and even multiplayer games on consoles have it. I really don't see the issue here.

Okay it seems my sarcasm was lost on people. I'm gonna try to spell out why I don't see this happening from what I understand of the school of thought that is SE

the servers are global, meaning a couple things: people on 24/7 someones always around to play with blah blah blah economy blah blah blah player base.

but the big thing out of it is

SE would like it if everyone could play with everyone, not necessarily be social but still have some interaction with each other. Thus the auto translator is born! facilitating poorly structured and understood communication between our Japanese counterparts along with bad double entendres about galka sausage since 2003


now the thing about voice chat is that it would pigeonhole people into playing with those that only speak the same language beyond the inherent fact that you already speak the same language
so until the day comes that Siri and google translate have a beautiful baby, the technology just isn't at real time voice translating. even with a handful of boxed phrases to use it gets a kinda cumbersome and redundant, so might as well just type.

I know, flawless logic.

I use vent with my linkshell, its easier sometimes. I get it. This is just why I don't see SE ever doing it.

It's completely moot to try and implement something into the game that will receive NO USE, only for it to be re-structured on a new game engine.

Like I've said previously, I'm not opposed to in-game voice chat because I like most PC users in active Linkshells will use the other options available, and we always will. Sure, it'd be nice for PS3 users...... but we won't have PS3 users for 1+ year(s). It's called biding your time.

I like how you say enabling in-game VOIP would make it so you can't communicate with other players, and then you turn right around and say you use VOIP and then have no issues communicating with other players. You basically contradicted yourself and shot down your own argument right there.

Enabling in-game VOIP does not mean that your auto-translate text goes away. It will not reduce your ability to communicate with non-English speakers at all. There is no pigeonholing.

I really need to work on being facetious in text better... I thought italics work. Do they not work? I thought they worked?


Anyway I do like to play devils advocate a lot sorry.

The post is largely what I think SE would say; that being a voice chat in game would create an added incentive to not play with people who speak your language and we don't want to see players in global servers segregated like that.

I'm not saying this makes a whole lot of sense, but I'm willing to bet you that is the line they'd give you

Couldn't put it any simpler but over complimenting a MMORPG with voice IP is something SE could think about but not worry about when everyone has all other crazy demands.

I agree, which I stated later that it's not a bad question at all (for PS3 users), it's just a bad time. I'd say PS3 Beta would be the perfect time to throw this idea out there.

The PS3 is a closed platform. Good luck getting 2nd or 3rd party programs on it without softmodding the PS3 itself. Also the PS3's hardware cannot handle doing multiple tasks at once. Notice why you can't listen to music whilst playing games? Or cross-game voice chat? It'd just be much easier to use Skype/Vent/Teamspeak like everybody else. Typing isn't very hard either.

DC Universe Online, Portal 2 & PlayStation HOME says hello. Just plug in Bluetooth mic to your ear.

fyi, PS3 is a open platform that supports playing games together with PC gamers.

The PS Vita has more memory than PS3. Chew on that for a minute before calling me a heretic.

I don't feel it'll be needed in some ways post 2.0 as a lot of people who want to use Com's will and do.
An hopefully we wont be stuck using scripts to get windowed full screen. :p
But maybe for the Ps3 group when they arrive it would be more welcomed and it could allow random groups who can and will use com's to talk more easily, an simpler cross platform chat.
Maybe SE could add Vent/TS support in game?

For the No crowed.. Well if you don't want to use it don't, ranting over multipul posts against something that you don't want that would not negatively impact you or anyone, but simply add another option for how people play is a little ...
