HURR DURR
I got work to do but I'm still bored.

Well my point is, stop complaining there is nothing to do. If you choose not to do it and then call yourself bored, it is not SE's fault. Dungeons + Hard fights are not the be all / end all of an MMO.
Have you collected all your Grand Company Gear with seals?
My inventories are filled to the brim with crafting mats. The last thing I need is Inventory -4 from those pieces of junk. I already have pumpkin heads, egg helmets, bathing suits, an earring, a samurai helmet with bunny ears and dream attire mats collecting dust.
Yeah just because you haven't beaten every level 10 fetch quest in the game does de-value someones opinion. Apparently you cant say your bored without having every single job to 50 war/magic/craft/gathering done 50 ifrit runs with no drop still, and wasted your time doing the strongholds for obsolete gear. HOW DARE YOU BE BORED
I'm bored!
I'm board.
Use your imagination and do something you might consider fun =)
Here, this might help illustrate my point a bit better. I should have taken the time to respond in this matter originally, as my point is obviously getting lost. My fault for making an assumption that people would rather read short concise responses as opposed to properly conveyed ones. A refreshing thing too I might add.
Keep in mind not all of this is directly related to this thread, but my points about fun and gratification hold merit to this thread.
Hmmm... what might I consider fun...
Sorry I already did that. :(
In game I have:
Played hide-and-seek
Participated in LS scavenger hunt (that was a blast. :D)
Had a DPS contest (who can kill X mob the fastest?)
Had a Big Game Hunt (Morbol r72 pwned)
In other words... anything BUT current SE provided content is fun...
Ifrit is fun... until you haven't had a drop in 30 kills. Then it stops being fun. :(
Getting aethers was fun, but then I got them all...
Now I'm just tring to get all the Guild Token Achievements before they're lost... so I'm using all my leves for that...
I only log in for leves now. Not much else. (Yes I'm playing something else if I have no leves.)

Please not the face...
no the problem is the lack of long lasting content that many people enjoy. The one thing about FFXI that i adored was that even from day one (or year one for the US) was that there was always something to do...and when it came to endgame...well that was far and above any game ive played. Most of the people interested in this game (or whats left) are FFXI players...and the 3 things we expected where 1) awesome story [solid here for sure, just little of it] 2) loads of long endgame variety [this game barely has any] and 3) challenge...especially when it comes to group things [were just barely seeing that lately]
How to play LS scavenger hunt.
Get together a list of clues that will have a final result (a crafted item). Try to be as obscure as possible (tho you may want to put quotations around important parts of the clues.)
Post initial clue on the LS forums. That consists of an item and a location (Participants may ask questions about the clue that must be Yes/No questions). Example: Bring one of these 'lucky' limbs to a crimson maze
Plant "Linkshell GMs" around the world. The initial clue leads to the first GM who will provide the next clue (item and place) It also informs the players where they are in the game (think "The Amazing Race" You have x number of opponents ahead of you) Example: a player would bring a puk wing to the Red Labyrinth to receive the next clue.
The winner gets a rare item and some gil from the last LS GM. (In my example, the crafted item would be something anyone can craft (like wing glue) they would take wiing glue to the last GM.
Looking at AngryNixon's post, I mostly agree with what he has said.
I don't think the OP meant any offense in the "bored" comment.
Different folks have different things that satisfy them. It's like buying a magazine and only reading the front-page the articles, or reading celebrities you're stalk~errr-curious about. Or if you're flipping through and see "Child gets suspended for calling teacher 'cute'." Like whoa, what this about, then end up reading an article you normally wouldn't have. While you're flipping through, you might find other things to do like a crossword puzzle, a questionnaire, sample tax forms to fill out, and the like, but once you have read what you wanted and glanced at everything else, you close the magazine and hopefully look forward for the next issue.
One could breathe new life into the same magazine by sharing the articles with friends. One could go through the magazine again and look at articles they glossed over or started reading and didn't take interest too the first time. See what the photos look like upside down. Sketch something. Make up stories for candid photo expressions. Make new headlines with a pair of scissors and tape and mish-mash the photos.
But if the person feels like they're forcing themselves to do something they normally wouldn't do just to make the most of the magazine in their hands, it may be difficult to find it interesting or enjoyable. They wait for the next issue or read another magazine brand of similar interest in the meantime.
Me personally, if you hand me a pen and paper and told me, "have fun" ~ well, couldn't guarantee that I would have fun, but I would find something to do with it for an extended period of time. That's just me. And heck, seeing Sephrick, if you give him a line that sits well, he can give you a song!
What's the point in collecting Aetheryte Gates that we have no purpose in visiting and won't be in the game in 2.0?
If I'm doing something in a game just because it's "something to do" I'm going to log off and do something more productive or entertaining.
The bigger issue is that they're going to start charging us in January for what? Permission to make our own fun in their playground?
I don't want to have shell out $10 to make up scavenger hunts and hide and go seek events. I can do that for free in real life. I want to be engaged by real content that pertains to the world Square designed.
I only hope SE had the sense to design some long term achievements.
I use http://xivpads.com to track my quests, but I will check this other one out... Thanks.
I personally love to cross things off my list, visiting all the gates isn't pointless for me.
I think if many people wanted a game where you would have to think outside of the box...they would just play the "IRL" game. That has lots of things to do outside of the box...typically for free...like going to build a mud castle in the back yard...pretend you are a chef cooking up grass...(wow I think I feel like a parent now...moving onto other adult things to do outside the box)...that's free...hanging out watching tv with friends...or playing cards with friends....hanging out with your S/O and...well....doing S/O things.
I play a video game to get away from the "IRL" game. I just need a break from it...not go to another game to only be reminded of it. That is just me though...and I have a strange feeling that maybe many people as well?or not. /shrug.
silly! play/do something else until they release more things you'd like to do.^^
Rest assured, I am not trolling you. Even this late, there are still a lot of players (myself included) that don't know many things about the game. Even many FFXIV fansites that may seem popular to most players, are brand news for a lot of us.
Also, thanks to you too, Yelta, the more info we have to cross-check our quest list, the better. Afterall, aren't most of us players completionists? It's in our nature, damn it!
Btw, I'm also glad that, as usual, even if a thread may seem useless at first, there is always quite a bit of useful information hidden in it!;)
Ah fair enough then :) Just grab your CICUID off of Lodestone and plug it in. That site is one of the better ones, and not just for quest tracking. It contains a full item database, one I hope is updated in 1.20! The other self-tracking site I recommend is http://www.xivpads.com
And yes, there is good info in a lot of threads. There's also a lot of... not so good information. ;)
When something like card game and PvP will be released, it will make only good. These two things are long-life content, because it's interact (PvP) in both cases. You can do DH or Ifrit once, twice, three times.. 10x in the final it will be the same every time. However -PvP is different every time, thats why I call this long-life content and game should focus on things like this in the future and till v 2.0 since now. (Ok, card game is too much for now, so I hope devs will at lest focus greatly on PvP in common beside, story, pve and systems should still be major priority).
Everyone should play Outside. It requires no downloads!
