There is a difference in doing your job and it turning bad, and doing and bad job, knowing it is bad, being told it is bad, and then going ahead with it release it and expect to be payed and ask for a raise :/

don't get what you mean. they are trying a different way thats what is called V2.0, if you try something and it don't work. and try it again the same way and it didn't work again a second time, that would make you stupid for not learning from your mistakes. to try again doesn't mean you have to make the make mistakes
oh i see, you have played V2.0, sorry i thought you was just spouting your opinion on something that is not even being tested yet, like it was gospel. if i had known you have all the inside info on how V2.0 has make the same mistakes as the game that was released a year ago, i would not have been so quick to dismiss you as a moron
yoshi - tanaka, 2 different ppl, 2 different plans, don't judge something you havn't tried
I personally dont see how Jump, AH and PVP has to be a musthave for MMOs. The reason i like this game over WoW, Rift, AoC, Swtor etc ive tried, is because FFxiv isnt as mainstream. I find WoW boring as heck these days, and SWtor is just an updated clone with lightsabers and better quest immersion and voiceacting.
Just cause 1 mmo doesnt have millions of subs, doesnt mean its a failure. It just suits players differently. WOW with its 10mill subs has the absolute worst community ive come across. And i really hate when PVP messes up the PVE experience since you can never balance abilities between the 2 unless you make PVP specific abilities you can only use in PVP situations and not in PVE.
I personally think FFXIV will be a success to the people who is looking for something a bit more different. If its not for you, then go play SWtor or whatever game suits your style. No need to come onto forums of games you dont play and call people names and throw out insults.
Over a year into the game since I, after having been in beta, pre-ordered the collector's edition.
Will it get better? Yes, and that is why I am playing it.
"For those who have been in the beta of SWTOR will it compete?" I have been in the beta since closed this summer, and I won't be playing SWTOR at release.
- SWTOR has much more to do in it right now than FFXIV, no doubt.
- FFXIV has a lot more of stuff that I am personally interested in coming, and that is why I play it.
First of all I hope SWTOR does well because I own some EA stock and would love for it to be the next WoW. I don't play WoW though, and I won't be playing SWTOR either.
SWTOR has a great deal of story content, and in this area it is much like Bioware's recent single player games. Is it on par with the main quest in FFXIV? I don't think so, there is certainly a lot more story content but it is like most of Bioware's recent storylines pretty bland and forgettable. Obviously it has the Star Wars universe, but it is not the best telling of that universe. The atmosphere the game attempts to create through full voice acting and dramatic events is diminished by the Cheesy MMO (watered down RPG elements, and simplistic mechanics) feel of the gameplay and art which portrays it.
As for FFXIV's plans
I still support Yoshida and Matsui's vision for combat in FFXIV:
- Both personal and group combination attacks.
- Positional and targeted attacks (attacking body parts)
- The Pugilist/Monk elemental style.
- The Lancer's Combo and crit focused style.
- The Bard.
- The Black Mages Magic Combos.
- The Marauder/Warrior's Berserker style gameplay.
- Matsui designed encounters (based on his previous work I look forward to seeing what he can come up with)
- The TP/weapon skill system, the enmity system, and the MP system I also think demonstrate the right priorities for a good MMO.
I especially am looking forward to future content like:
- Roaming gods which grant your Free Company a one time, game altering summon.
- Quest (hopefully many that are epic) driven job progression.
- Housing system with neighborhoods and harvesting area
- Chocobo raising.
I like the look of the concept art they have for 2.0. I also think I just like the lore of FFXIV better than the Old Republic universe, a character free to play any class/job, and I like playing an MMO on global servers.
I'll continue to play the beta of a game I enjoy, I've paid for it before. I also have fun with my linkshell enough to keep me logging in (though I imagine I'll be more active once the things I anticipate most are present). I'll stop when I become uninterested in the direction they are heading, or if something else blows my socks off. It won't be SWTOR.
btw 2.0 is being tested your testing the content that should have been here, part of the reason this game is so bad. anything added between now and 2.0 should have been here, the shit in 2.0 should have been here. you are playing 2.0 beta get over it. not only are you playing it your about to pay for it, least STO don't hide this fact.
Console gamers will likely make up the majority of all players for this game. PC gamers have a LOT of other MMOs to choose from, and failed launches are extremely hard to recover from. Just look at Aion; doing great in Korea and it's by all aspects a good MMO right now, but they only have like 4 servers in NA and 6 or 8 in EU.
Quoting him in your replies just makes more work for the moderators when they have to ban him and delete his posts.
Yes, the game will drastically improve.
And I think it will be a really good MMORPG after 2.0 launch.
But really, I doubt it will ever become a "success", for the simple reason that - no matter how good the game actually will be - bad roumors about it won't ever vanish.
SE had their chance, and they pushed out a broken game.
They may be able to get more players with 2.0, maybe even enough to gain enough money to get the money back they invested into it, but still, it won't ever grow much beyond it's fanbase.
That's just my opinion though, I hope it will be different^^°
About SWTOR:
Why is everyone comparing these games?x-X
They are a totally different fandom so it's not really "competing" at all!
For example me, I'm not interested in Star Wars, never liked it, but I'm willing to look at any MMO, even some that I don't like. And for all the hype the game got, I expected way more.
Now for someone who does not like Final Fantasy, it's the same with FFXIV.
The game may be good after 2.0, but someone not interested in the FF fandom won't play it, no matter how good it actually is.
So how about we stop comparing them..?
But that has been the same excuse we have heard since before the game released, at beta, we told you it was bad, and you guys came back with "Oh how do you know ? a MMO is never finished it will be good at release" then the game released and it was garbage, and you guys said "Oh it just released every other game did in that state(Wish is false!) then the first update came and nothing change, then the second, the third, the fourth, and now here we are, still waiting for the golden patch.
Oh and about Swotor, just from the beta quest, and stuff i know more about its lore, than i know about FFXVI <.< that should say something.
ffxiv has no story. its lore is a complete mess and the whole companies thing seems out of place.
SWTOR is just like a mmo KOTOR with a fun PVP thing and -REALLY- awesome group quests.
obviously not the same game but the point is FFXIVs group "instances" suck and get old fast whereas SWTOR can be done multiple times and not get old since how you respond results in diff outcomes. FFXIV has no "deep quests" whereas almost all of SWTOR is "deep quests". Etc.
Even if you dont like the story the point is in SWTOR its there, in ffxiv its not. I -loves- FFXI because it did a great job of telling a story but i really don't give a f*** about some random person in limsa wanting ppl to try her cupcakes so i can spend an hour of my life running in circles for her just to be rewarded with something i could have farmed at level one in 5 min.
And SE doesn't even bother to add in new content or story quests other than a few that can be completed in 3 hours after patch release.
What does XIV have to offer compared to other games?
gameplay is fail to the point where they are redesigning the game
story has -potential- to be epic but is so far pretty fail
quests are complete fail
leves are repetitive
getting to rank 50 takes -no- skill at all really
the "trade"/economy is a failure
I always hope that SE will be like "look we have new plans to fix all this" but they don't. they just say "we have 2.0" which is a completely vague statement.
So because my interest in games is different then your high and mighty Swtor style games I am a SCRUB. You sir is 1 player i will not miss. You appearantly have a deep hatred for FFXIV and its players, so why the heck are you here? If i see you post here post SWtor launchs and XIV p2p, then I pity you for having no other pleasures in life except talking down on others.
Cant fathom your obsession about jumping. Do you walk around your neighborhood jumping instead of walking? And whats the point of having Jump when theres no point of having it? In Skyrim yes you would be unable to play it properly since it requires you to jump from 1 place to another, but ive never seen any places in Eorzea where ive had the need to Jump.
oh look, I got you take make a proper sentence. I am impressed.
Yes in a year.
No need to respond to him. He is a troll and only has one thing in his life that keeps him going on which would be to insult and try to anger people on forums... It is all he has... and the only way he can make himself feel bigger.
You sir Crunkjuice are a sad excuse for a human really you are... I'm not going to type it here but I'm having pleasant thoughts about what will happen to you when karma comes knocking on your door... it does not look pretty btw.
Have a nice day...

FFXIV - The hipster MMO.
I don't know if FFXIV v2.0 will be successful, but this game is buried so deep that until then it will remain poorly reviewed and will appeal only to the same niche gamer FFXI appealed to (some exceptions of course). FFXIV needs to conform to a lot of standards if they want to be financially successful with the game. Think about it.
SWTOR will not fail because it is Star Wars, and people want to play a Star Wars game. EA/Bioware tosses in a little treat here and there that is different (such as their weird battlegrounds, cool companion system, and F'ING LIGHTSABERS) all while keeping the basic structure of the game "standard". People won't care that there's cartoony graphics or easy to acquire loot or mounts or jump or addons or whatever because people will play it first because it's Star Wars, second because it's a MMO.
Square needs to apply this same mentality with v2.0. They need to conform to some standards that have been set by popular MMOs, such as a mount system (already done with chocobos, finally), casual group content, loot attainable by casuals (while still giving hardcores something), Auction House, basic UI functionality (such as LS management, better keybind support, search, less popups, etc), story driven quests with rewards to help one level, etc. The list goes on, and sadly of this list I'd say Square is only giving us one (mounts), possibly 2 (AH) before v2.0. They've acknowledged the UI and we've seen the prototype for the new one but who knows when that's coming. And as for quests, I don't think they've even acknowledged this as an issue whatsoever. I tried getting a friend to play and his first complaint was there are no bread crumb quests.
If SE listens to all the hipster fanboys that are trying to make this game a perfectly designed unique snowflake then I don't think it will be successful. If SE executes proper R&D (which I'm not sure if they even do at all >_>) and standardizes the game and accepts that some people may leave, but marketing will bring many new in, then I seriously believe this game will do just fine. Cross platform is huge and it gives SE access to an audience that no other MMO has tapped into yet. They have a chance, they just need to not blow it.
doesn't a room have to be below ground to be a basement?
Sorry unlike little children like you I don't live near my family anymore... I grew up and moved away and got something called a job. But you know what its ok if you are mad because you are still stuck living with mommy and daddy because you are just so pathetic you can't survive on your own... its fine really keep attacking let it all out and release your rage. I can take it because no matter what you post it does nothing to me and you are but an insect crawling on the ground... If a accidently put my foot down in the wrong... *splat* oops I killed one of your family... I'm so so sorry I didn't... erm... wait no insects are meant to be smushed...

First bold outline: Are you old enough to do that
Second Bold: That is somewhat a personal threat, and I can more then willing report that to my local authorities and press charges against you. I do not care if this is online or not, you threaten me, then I will respond in kind.
You really are like what Nadien said: A sad excuse of a person.

Oh im not talking about having you banned. I mean press charges against you for personal threats. I dont take those sitting down. I have done so with some player I came across in WOW. And I do not mind doing it again.
Actually you are the one that thinks they are some tough E-Bully/wannabe thug... but as I said its ok just ignore them and send all that hate and anger you have at me. I'll take it all because I know deep inside under all that hate and anger you are just hurt, sad, and alone... its ok I am here...
