What do you mean by the macros "work"? They can work in the sense that it fires off the correct skills. But it doesn't work in the sense of maximizing DPS. What you need to prove is that your macros can maximize DPS compariable to someone that doesn't use the macros. What good will these macros be if they cause you to fail DPS checks?Quote:

Yes, your macros work in the sense they are functional. Is it optimal? Is it competitive? Absolutely not. You are essentially fighting a losing battle against a whole thread that is telling you why it is wrong with examples where not one person has agreed with you that it works in a competitive playing field. Maybe if you did your own research you'd find youtube videos where this has been tested somewhat extensively throughout the entirety of 2.0 and it all leads to the same conclusion - you do not macro your rotation. At the end of the day if this is how you want to play, that is fine but two things:
1. Don't claim you are "teaching" people through macros where a whole thread is telling you why this is wrong to do so.
2. Expect invites being thrown at you to do serious content when there is evidence out there that both mechanically and parse wise you are losing DPS.
To be honest I think this is a thinly veiled "My $15. My play style. Parsers are bad." thread and you managed to get a lot of bites. 10/10 though good job. -

I think someone already mentioned in this thread somewhere about reaching 60 first then try your macro on the SSS(Stone Sky Sea). If your macro can pass the dummy dps test, then it means your macro is good enough for the raiding contents or any fight that require better dps. If not, I would say that it probably enough for those normal dungeon run?

Honestly, compared to people who doesn't even know how to do the proper rotations (either don't bother learning them, or can't put in enough time to practice them), this macro is probably a step up. I haven't personally tested this, but I imagine losing a GCD every 10 is not going to make him the worst player you will encounter in df. He is not going to be "good", but I'm sure it will be adequate enough for most (but not all) content.
The skill bloat is something that SE has acknowledged to be a problem that they will address in the future. If by using this, someone who doesn't have a lot of time or just want to play the game leisurely can improve their overall dps (because learning the proper rotation is easier when there are much fewer buttons to press), I don't see the harm. This does more or less precludes them from improving further if they want to start tackling more serious content in the future, unless they relearn everything from scratch again. In other words, this is not really a training wheel into the proper way of dpsing, so that's the downside. But if they are sure that they are never going to do those harder contents...why not?
Having said that, I do think the OP should put a large disclaimer that this is not the optimal way to play, in the first post and in his video. -

I was about to say for people to chill a bit because I thought you were new, until you said 'What makes you think this is my first account?'
Well firstly, you're posing really bad information as people are responding too.
Then secondly everyone here has pretty much told you you were wrong and you're telling us how to maximize
damage at when your first begun this post, was level 52...Instead of taking everyone's advice, you actively beat people down and the nicest one person to critique you was Kitfox
and you pretty much tell her off. People main these DPS and do savage content
so they aren't trying to be buttheads but trying to help you.
Try and learn from others advice and stop TRYING to play poorly and grow.

You should only macro, as a DPS, Flaming arrow and the like to skip the targeting (unless you want to pre-cast, then do it manually).
The key difference you're not getting is "can" is VERY different from "should". You CAN macro a rotation, but SHOULDN'T. At 52 you should know sometimes fights throw a curve ball at you. Normally, this means maybe missing a GCD. If you use a macro though, you may end up missing many more and not know where you're at. Not to mention sometimes, you DON'T want to activate a buff. If you mistime it and the boss disappears, you're wasting the buff. You only get this fine control by doing things manually.
This is where practicing comes into play. Things become second nature. And think about it... if these worked so well, why don't we see them posted instead of rotations? -

The burden of proof is on you my friend. If you claim something, you have to back it up with evidence. People can't refute something that hasn't even been proven in the first place. You keep saying "competitive", but there's nothing in your video to show this.
The macros work in that they function, they will use abilities in a sequence as they're designed to do, but they don't do it optimally and they never will because that's the nature of macros in this game. You really want to prove the macros work and grant you good DPS? Run some numbers and compare them to what other people get. Until that point, based on what the community knows about macros, we know that it's a DPS loss to use them. -

Players should be learning rotations manually because, as I said, some fights WILL require you to adjust. As an example, DRG fits Dragonfire Dive in the opener burst. However, in A9S it is better to save it for the 2 set of adds or even the first so the AoE is maximized over targets (for me personally). Or, in other fights where I need to move, it is better saved so I can quickly re-engage the boss. Not fancy methods by any means, pure experience was my teacher. A macro just creates a bad habit because that "competitive" loss REALLY adds up and rookies will get into the habit of just using macros.
Take a regular 5 minute fight and multiply that, say, 100 DPS loss over 300s. Here and there the loss is meh, but it quickly compounds. Down the line when you want maximum DPS, ANY avoidable loss is not competitive at all; it is a hindrance.
You're free to play however you want, still doesn't mean you're right just like I'm free to argue the earth is flat. Again, if macros were viable the number theorists who come up with optimal rotations would be posting macros instead of number theory and rotations. I'm all for teaching rookies, I however cannot condone teaching bad habits. Before helping people with a system you barely understand, help yourself by learning about what you use.
Absolute bollocks, the negativity comes from the DPS loss and how macros cause delays that stack later on. A DPS loss is a DPS loss period and handicapping yourself isn't "competitive".Quote:

And you have to remember, Monks rotation is completely different from every other DPS or Tank Class. The rotation is not based on a set button 1 to button 2 to button 3 as Dragoon, Ninja, Paladin, Warrior or Dark Knight. It is based on what stance you are in, and that allows you to create macros for Monk based solely that you can bounce from one ability to another in your combo just from your stance. So you can go from Bootshine to Twin Snakes once you have shifted to the enemies flank from the rear and visa versa with Dragon Kick to True Strike from the back. That is why you can Macro monk effectively not using Cast Sequence macros as Dragoon and Ninja for example would need, but using a simple process of elimination macro. It does work....maybe not for everything in the game.....but it can work for solo or even a large amount of regular content.Quote:

The Macros I made are only for the last 2 parts of the 3 step combos, thats all. Bootshine nor Dragon Kick are in the Macros, just the last 2 parts. If you still doubt the information, please watch my demo video I created on me doing a simple Monk Combo for 2 minutes with and without a Macro. In that time frame I lost 2%, so if you have 2 monks.....one doing 2k dps while another doing 1960 in a 15 minute fight, the 2k Monk will do 90k dps in that time while the Macroed Monk will do 88k! Again in 15 minutes you lose only 2k dps in 15 minutes and thats not including if the person using no Macros hasnt made any mistakes in regards to human error.Quote:

This doesn't really help new players, it gives them a crutch system that hinders their growth as a player. In my opinion, it's much better to teach new players good keybinding practices that will allow them to:
-use up to 48 hotbar slots effectively in all situations
-use the same system on all classes, cutting down learning time and improving muscle memory
-avoid the pitfalls of macros (no ability queueing, lack of control, dps losses)
If you're really trying to help new players, I'm sure you can see which system is universally more versatile and effective.

I watched both videos, but I have three things which actually bothers me:
1. Why are you creating/using macros for a level 54 Monk? Why 54? What about Level 60? Shouldnt you level your Monk to 60 first before making some (weird) macros/comparision videos? So, you have no experience in playing Monk at Level 60, rather having the right gear and stats for accurate parses. Its like having a Level 10 Conjurer making a Healer-Guide for Endgame-Content. Level your Monk to 60, get some gear and make parses on a Level 60 dummy with your macros. Then we can talk.
2. In 2.X the average DPS for a Level 50 Monk (ilvl 120+) should be around 500-600 DPS. Its easy to say, that a macro will only cause a DPS-loss of 2% when your parsed numbers are extremely low. But numbers are important for endgame/raids, which means you should have at least an ilvl of 210+ and a DPS of around of 2000+ (including Level 60). There is no place for speculations like "if you do xxxx amount of damage you lose x% by using a macro". In fact, macros are slower, more error-prone and makes you forget how to play your class properly. You cant deny that!
3. Why using macros at all? Featherfoot is quite useless and Steel Peek/Shoulder Tackle should be used very carefully (maybe some enemies must be stunned later?). Blood for Blood can be dangerous when getting hit by a strong raid-wide AoE. Your macros will let you lose control over your own skills. There is no need, especially you can reach any important skill without breaking your fingers. Actually you only need around 15 buttons, 7 or 8 of them permanently. Monk is pretty easy to play. Dont be lazy, play without macros, Rookie!
The best Monks wont accidentally pressing the wrong button. In fact, its quite hard to press the wrong button as a Monk. You have combos with 3 skills each. You have your Off-GCD and CDs which you should be used since when they re ready. How can you "accidentally" press the wrong button? Thats even impossible for casual players ; )Quote:

It's true that you can reach your "complete state" more quickly with a simple macro system, but with ample time and given the fact that you can practice manual input in more scenarios (all classes), you will reach the same state of performance inevitably without it, possibly faster if you also play other classes besides MNK.
The question is, when you're at your best after practising, do you want to be using a flawed system (even if it was only 2%) or the most efficient one? Both will eventually end up with similar error margin for input mistakes. -

And if you say that my macros will do more harm than a Monk who is drunk, please provide yet again proof on that not words....I sincerely would like to see that comparison! As for you actually providing data and video evidence all of FF14 can see, I look forward to it and if you proof data contrary to my data especially doing not just endgame but any form of content using macros(that includes solo, fate farming etc....and how it is ineffective, I will correct my stance.
