Yeah, that makes sense, but seems kinda random that he brings it up after the fact. I guess it just seemed obvious to me, and why bother adding a 2nd hint to an obvious first one? :P You're probably right though.

That split worked fine because they pulled the amnesia card, it didn't matter if you were a new WoL or the WoL from 1.0, everyone would treat you as a new WoL except for a couple people, they can't pull that card now, the story moving forward has to assume you're the same hero.
I am ready for the high tech samurai with mach speed draws

They can attach a storyline to the Hall of Intermediate content and make it mandatory, killing two birds with one stone; by the time you're done you vaguely know how to play your class and story-wise you'd have done some sort of miraculous feat so that people are already calling you the WoL.
"Yoshida told the interviewer to look closely at his artwork and see if they can notice something from it. He also said the weapons he hold isn't exactly related to his character"
The Samurai teasing is too strong.
Edit: "and "if asked if he's holding a gunblade then yes he is holding a gunblade."" I think this is more the fact that every Garlean has gun-weapons. But saying "the weapons he hold isn't exactly related to his character" gives me the idea that their saying it's not exclusive to his character, hope I'm depicting this right. Just like Hydrus had a Gun-Greatsword? And DRK's don't have Gun Greatswords X) Here's to hopping SAM will use a set of Daishō rather then a Great Katana!
So, is anyone else a bit disappointed from this interview? I was fairly hyped when they revealed battle system changes and skill pruning, but not based off the interview. It seems like the changes are going to be quite minor, and that there won't be much change to button bloat. No change to global cooldown is also disappointing.
His discussion on raid difficulty also seemed weird. He wants to add a 3rd tier, but make it more difficult. So we're still going to have this jarring gap between Normal and Savage, but then another post-Savage?
Fewer Side Quests? Now we will have even fewer quests to level our alts with \o/ Love that FATE & Dungeon grinding.
Removing Accuracy and Parry is fine and all (if they even do it?), but really the whole secondary stat structure needs an overhaul to be more interesting.
I feel he has flip flopped on PS3 limitations, granted it's possible that the playerbase has skewed what he has said over time. I can't find original interview translations in my quick google search. It just seems like things weren't added due to "PS3 limitations", but now that PS3 is going away, it's changed to "it never had to do with PS3". It definitely sounds like he is (or was) just making excuses?
Then there is just no discussion regarding many issues with the game. I am really hoping Stormblood brings back the spark that ARR had for me, and that Heavensward lost. So far, it really isn't looking that way. Welp, 2 FanFests to go!
Just consider that SCH can already be 'pushed' to 60 with only playing the base class till 50 and doing the job quests, while playing a dps role.
I don't recognize the average SCH more worse as the average SMN.
You can argue about situational awarness and interpreting situations/marks/mechanics. But you can't demand the MSQ to teach you rotational, job related things anyway, not in a game where you use 1 job (or maybe 2 as Arcanist) to do MSQ and afterwsrd up to 12 jobs who can be maxed by fating or PotD.
It's not just the title...the events your character has been through so far have so shaped both the story and characters, and the Scions wouldn't be in the position they are in without the influence of the current WoL. It's simply not as simple as having a new person come in having done something heroic.
Maybe they could pull the "you're a replacement for the original WoL who died and only a few know" as that could be done with a new intro and minimal dialogue changes. About the only way that doesn't add a host of complications.
He didn't said "male AF", he simply said Monk AF.
And Female AF won't be that different, how different has it been from the Male armor so far?
If she was a Monk it would make sense for him to say so.
Unless he wants people to keep speculate (good strat to keep people interested)
I'm still convinced she's a Dancer, and Dancer will be Healer.
I also think:
- We won't have DPS Samurai but Gunblade Job instead.
- If we get Samurai it will be Tank and not DPS.
If not:
- DPS Samurai
- Tank Red Mage
- Healer Dancer
There's also the chance they add a second DPS into a 4.X patch, which could be Samurai.
Leveling potions? WTF I have two classes left to get to 60 and now i'm very unmotivated. Thanks for screwing everything up, SE.
The point is that people can just pay and get to 60 without doing any hard work. I'm just assuming things but I can see it being on the cash shop. It doesn't stop me from getting those classes up... but it takes away all the work with a single potion. Why? I thought the game was supposed to teach you your class... not level with a silly potion. I understand people will want to get to 70 but why invalidate everyone's hard work?
If people pay potion i want it really expensive . Well, i will get motivation back like that lol
Maybe it would fall on how they implement the leveling potion and redoing skills. Most of them will have to do the dungeons anyways or level through them normally for other jobs to get any specific actions that they might want, or need.
If they start out as a Gladiator / PLD and boost to 60, they still have to do the class quests and job quests. They would miss maybe 5 or so dungeons the first time around and could solo the ones up to 50, after that they may find it difficult as a new player to solo some of the stuff 50 and beyond. They would still have access, though them using it isn't something we can force, to gameplay that teaches you how to play. Looks like from 3.0, you can skip the first dungeon but the rest are locked behind the story.
I would say it is safe to say it will be on the cash shop and rather expensive. People will be willing to pay for it though, I just don't think it will help them out as much as they think and is a waste of money. So it would be "Here's level 60..and here is your iLV1 gear. Enjoy."
When 4.0 comes out everyone will be so focused on that, so those who need to do certain fights and such along the way from 2.0 - 4.0 to catch up will just have an easier time. They might still have to do the whole story, and will have to level other jobs. Then again, they could use a potion on every job. If you make it expensive enough that won't happen as much. Should only be applied to combat classes, there's nothing you can do as a Fisher that will make you catch up to the 4.0 crowd any easier in terms of content.
Who said pay to win in the back of the classroom ?
And don't start with the usual "it's not P2W in FF14 etc" as long as you pay real money to get an advantage in game over others it's pay to win, and paying lets say 60 bucks for not having to lvl your class IS pay 2 win
If no viera for 5.0 then I rather not see them in the future. It will be a waste of momentum and demand by 5.0. It was the "cool" thing in 2016, not 2019.
At least this saves me $60, won't have to buy the tokyo/germany fanfest streams now :)
Also leveling potion I see as a bad idea.
The better solution is to increase the amount of tomestones from running realm reborn dungeons or extra gil...stuff like that
The job specific UI sounds amazing. Can't wait to see Astrologians.
I leveled my Bard playing PotD, i do nicely on it, not nearly as good as on Ninja but it's enough for at least A9S, i didn't read any guides yet but i should if i want to be a better Bard.
But just reading the tooltip is enough for me do it properly, not perfectly but properly (i can do more DPS than some people with Sophia weapon).
If people bothered to read what all of the skills are for they would perform better.
I still have PLD, WAR, MCH and AST to level to 60, yet i'm not going to buy the Potion, i've spent over 1000€ in GW2 so you can see i spend money on in games stuff, depending on what it is.
I feel like they will include one Potion with the Expansion Pre-order.
Like HW had a Fantasia because of a new Race, since there's no new Race this time it makes sense to add the Potion.
Obviously if that happens i'll save it for one of the new Jobs, i don't like any of the Jobs i have left to level (maybe WAR is nice, but i'm still Marauder lvl 37 (also leveling through PotD)).
I know some players are happy that we will not have a new race, because they think they will add more stuff to the current races... but have you guys thought about the possibility that current races will not get new stuff? I think we will have the status quo, next expansion will give each gender 1 or 2 new hairstyles and each patch we will get few hairstyles.
Personaly, I want to see the return of 1.0 bodies, more weight when running, real butts etc, but I have a feeling that 4.0 will be a repeat of 2.0/3.0 when it comes to current races.
I recall the bulk of feedback towards the idea of a leveling potion being overwhelmingly negative - at least on this board. I'm no fan of the idea of encouraging players to skip content as the consequences aren't particularly great. FFXIV's current model of keeping older content relevant is one of the main perks of the game - I grew very tired of WoW due to how much of the game world and content was just left to rot.
Everything else sounds great, though. Hopefully 4.0 shakes up a lot of things and keeps things fresh without sacrificing the 'core appeal' of the game itself.
Hopefully we get upgraded character models in 4.0. Or at least more variety in terms of options - if we're not getting a new race then it's the perfect time to do it.
The leveling potion will probably be the only reasonable priced item in the cash shop, so we will have even more people who don't know how to play their job
When people say "more customization" they throw that generic term out there. Yet we know no race will be able to be as tall as roegadyn, you won't have miqo'tes that can be taller than they already are.
New faces will be nice but what will 2 or 3 new faces really do? Some people will only like 1 of those 2 new faces. Let's hope they actually work and give us 10+ faces.
Beyond new faces I really don't see them working on anything else. Because lore and design.
I totally agree with you on this. Level jump potions suck butt, level jumps to 10 levels below cap suck donkey butt.
Oh, and a level skip potion to 60 kinda suggests that the new job(s) will start at level 60...
Dropping Accuracy and Parry sounds like a very poorly thought out response to the way they are currently handled. It's like throwing in the towel (fictional conversation follows);
"Hey boss, we messed up on these secondary attributes, let's fix them?"
"Nah, let's just tinker with them until 4.0 and then drop them."
"But boss, there's already next to no complexity in stat builds and secondaries, how are we to satisfy players who want to have some control over their build?"
"Give them more glamour, after all it is the true end-game. Oh, and while you're making the combat stuff simple, remember to jack up the pointless complexity in crafting and gathering."
"Sure thing Boss, gimp combat and shaft crafting, got it..."
As far as leveling potions go, they could still kind of force people to learn their roles, rotations, etc.
Maybe the Leveling Potion could open up a special quest chain. Completing each quest in the chain allows you to jump ten levels. That way, you'll have time to sort out your abilities, skills, spells and whatnot, and get the chance to use them against enemies. But I guess I can dream, can't I?
We know what the potion's going to do, but we don't exactly know the execution of said potion yet.
Well, faces aside, I can think of a few things:
- Tail Types (As well as Noses, Jaw etc)
- Hairstyles
- Face paints, Face&Horn Separation
- Additional features for the body (tatoos, scars etc)
- Colors converted to a fluid spectrum, rather than set colors.
- Maybe ear types
I doubt weight, butt or body type will be a thing. In general, I doubt anything that would require them to re-work hundreds of armor pieces will become a thing.
1. Restricted to miqo'te/au ra only. What more cat tail types are there that we haven't seen? 1 or 2?
2. They always add new hair
3. Face paint is a design choice, they just choose not to add more
4. Scars is a design choice also, I don't see them adding more. More tattoos they could add though but I'm not sure they will
5. Set colors for clans is there for lore/design reasons
6. Ear type? Are there 5-10 cat ear types?
This is the problem with people wanting more customization. A lot of it is either limited to miqo'te or things related to lore like colors.
I think a good start would be:
- More handsome faces (like Aymeric or Alphinaud) and more faces in general, some races only have 4 faces, but other races have 7.
- Muscle slider for all races and genders.
- Beards, good looking beards, I used to play a male avatar and the one thing that I realy missed was having a nice beard.
- The option for Au Ra to swap horns and faces, Mi'qote can do the same with their facial tattoo.
- Tattoo's in general, I dont care if legacy players will cry about it.
Alot of the player characters (minus those playing the rare race/gender combo) look like clones, I want the option to make my own character, which is hard right now, since the options are very limited.
Well more faces would be a good start
I'm curious where all the extra money for this expansion pack went if they only added 2-3 jobs, no new race, and less side stories. I really do hope they do a complete overhaul of the character customization. They added a lot of stuff in HW with a smaller budget.
I wonder.. can one use the jump potion to level a DoH or DoL class?
The next main SE game will be Kingdom Hearts 3, I would not be suprised if alot of the money went towards funding Kingdom Hearts 3. I do agree that it is strange that the next expansion has 3x the budget, but so far it looks like we will have less stuff. I think its to early, lets wait untill the other two FanFest are over, I think then we can a better understand what is going on.
Maybe they changed a little what they said and will give more info. Lets wait december
Let anyone that bought a jump option have absolutely nothing from the previous expansions. No trial roulette, no leveling roulette, no access at all to anything from Heavenward or ARR((except arr jobs obviously)), not even emotes. That's all I want.
