I wasn't trying to point out bad phrasing, i want him to reconfirm in real Words what he means.
What he said literally means that the Combo system IS a replacement for Battle regimes.

Did you even read the second sentence in that paragraph lol? If you read the whole paragraph you would clearly see that it stated "To view this as an entirely new system". So to even ask if this is a replacement just shows poor reading comprehension because you didn't even bother to read the whole paragraph before asking your question.
I think he meant to say are not replacment for the BR system (but thats my interpretation). I can't imagine they wouldnt be planning on some sort of team related combo/skillchain/BR in the longer term.
Bayohne just contradicted himself twice in the same sentence! For shame.
FFXIV Forums...the forums that keep on giving. Amazing lol. It's not a replacement, but a new system. Bayo, I think you need to start typing in call caps :D
In standard written English, when two negatives are used in one sentence, the negatives are understood to cancel one another and produce a weakened affirmative. However, in many dialects, the second negative is employed as an intensifier and should be understood as strengthening the negation rather than removing it.
Unfortunately the last statement, "It would be best if you could look at them as an entirely new system." does not entirely clear up the confusion as an "entirely new system" can still be a replacement for the old system or it could be an entirely new system alongside the entirely new system that replaces the old one.
"It's a separate system" may have been a better choice if it is indeed an entirely new system. ;>P
This much we know, I simply wish to have more information on what exact direction they plan to take with it, instead of "we are considering a ... system" or "it will be implemented in the future" vague type answers.
I never asked for it to be here now, I am aware of how a MMORPG or any bigger game goes trough development and that some things will come before others and progress trough patches.
Patience I have plenty, but curiosity more so, all I'm asking for here is if theres any information to be had from the devs for the future of party based combos/br/sc whatever you choose to call it.
Like I said, self combos does'nt excite me much, but I'm fairly sure it wont take away from the game either and as stated I will wait and see how it plays out before passing any judgement on said system. :>
A full page on Bayohne's double negatives ... really?? REALLY??
I am not not contributing to the continuation of this thread.
I vote for forums to be suspended until 2.0.
This, w/e this is, is not doing anyone any good at all.
How about you read before you quote me i said people who enjoy team work now with the new dev post it seem combo is not a system that come from BR. so maybe we are going to get a type of new br later down the road which is a good thing.
Some people enjoy doing skillchain together and making a awesome attack at the end. BR even tho was not that good looking it was very helpful if you knew what to do.
Telling me to actually read? Ironic. I was actually quite clearly referring to this very sentence that i bolded:
I enjoy teamwork. I love the idea of it. This individual combo system is not useless. There's more to teamwork than flashy group effects - which we will get in the future as a new and improved form of BR anyway.
Hence my telling you to speak for yourself.
Yea... read.
Maybe the double negative is a new form of word combo we can expect in update 1.20 to the English language. I'm not unexcited!
ahhh as someone who supposedly has excellent reading comprehension skills, this whole statement is pretty confusing, the first statement contradicts the second, based on the final sentence, i would assume that he is saying they are not a replacement, but its still pretty unclear.
could be
There is a misconception. These combos are not a replacement, they are a new system
"self combos arent the replacement for battle regimens"<==== this statement is a misconception. implication becomes self combos are a replacement.
essentially since the point of bayonne posting is usually clarity, this is making things unclear, though i would assume the first part of the statement was an error, and it is in fact a different system. but that is an assumption.
If combos will work like Chain Skills in Aion, I'll be pretty pumped. That was something I really enjoyed about combat in that game.
This is honestly the first battle system change they've made in a while that has me excited.
bay should lock the thread, delete some posts and ninja his own post "THIS IS A BRAND NEW SYSTEM AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BR'S WE ARE STILL WORKING ON THE REPLACEMENT FOR BR's BUT DUE TO SYSTEM LIMITATIONS EXPECT IT IN 2.0"
Oh, er, I just saw all the follow up comments. I think most everyone got my meaning, but I apologize for any confusion caused.
There is a misconception that the individual combos are the replacement for the battle regimen system that was temporarily suspended in patch 1.19.
This is not the case.
The individual combos are an entirely new system.
I'm just gonna start writing really simple from now on so I don't confuse even myself. :(
Now that's taken care of here's another question:
Are you going to reveal the rehauled traits at some point or are their specs too up in the air to give a reasonable explanation behind what they do ahead of time?
