New Relic 260 Quest: Details

Can I get the new items from roulettes even if I don't have the quest? I am working on a new relic atm and I am not past the Umbrite stage, will probs take me a little while as well.

Otherwise, sounds like a pretty tolerable step, might forsake getting my Shire Codex in favor of this, might get something else instead.

You can not. You don't get the Clusters directly from the roulettes. There are a couple of girls that give out quests to do them, one daily one weekly, you get items for those quests while they're active and turning in the quest gets you 1/10 Clusters depending.

I say the grind was quite easy, and well worth it. I didn't think I would like it over my sophia weapon, but the crits are coming in abundance!!

Since i still have had zero luck finding groups for Sophia i figure i will get Relic before, lol

Not sure if this matters, but doing the daily Vanu Vanu beast tribes should net you 150 per day does it not? They're faster than a dungeon.

I'm already 25/50. This step is great and doesn't need to be rushed. A cluster per day and 10 every Tuesday is amazing! I will have this done by Tuesday then. I'm not sure why people already grinded lore facility a gazillion times for such a short step.

To be honest, Relics are not worth it :P
Too much grinding, while you can just farm Sophia Extreme 10 times and get a level 265 weapon ^^

Meh, with tomes that'll delay your tome gear and gearing other jobs. And if you just play regularly you'll easily get the anima weapon while it's relevant so no real reason to not start it.

Also some tome weapons are terrible.

Except the relic has customizable stats, so you don't have to worry about SE giving you some awful secondaries.

Already at 31/50. Glad I capped, and never spent my esoterics. They've become pretty predictable with this relic. I only had to put in at most, 1 hour of work for that weekly. Should be done tomorrow. Hopefully the next step is harder, or requires more than grind out X amount of tomes. Most of these steps can easily be finished in 10 days tops casually, even before the nerfs.

Not everyone is a hardcore casual like you. It took me 3 months to get my ast relic done or so.... and 1 whole month each for both 240's I have..... with bonuses. It takes a crazy long time so i'm not sure why you are considering this easy.

I don't consider myself either hardcore or a casual. But thanks for the label.

The steps aren't hard, and unless you're playing less than 2 hours a day, shouldn't take months of time to complete. As it stands, if you did what I did, which I know plenty of people who DO cap before a relic step, you're left with 8 hours. Doing the weekly, daily, and turning in tomes puts you at half. If 8 hours of grinding tomes is considered hardcore/casual or whatever you're trying to peg me as, then more power to you. The ONLY step I would consider frustrating out of this relic, would have been the unidentifiable step.

I work, am married, and I still don't think it's hard, nor time consuming.

I am talking about the relic as a whole and you said each step can be done in 10 days top "casually" before nerfs. This is simply not true unless you play everyday for 12 hours straight. I am not complaining about the new step. The new step is ridiculously easy. It doesn't take 10 days to get 80 umbrite.

Yes, the relic as a whole.

It didn't take 10 days before nerfs either, it took 7-8 if you had a headstart.

It simply is true, seeing how I and many others can't afford to play 12 hours a day, and still did it by preparing tomes, and having enough gil for buyouts of required items. Heck, I was even on after most often battle and field demis were mass bought out and I still got all my sands day 1. The umbrite step was a joke, because grinding tomes is not difficult, or time consuming, with how many they throw at you. Maybe it is your server, but mine had PF groups up for bonuses constantly for content which made the process extremely easy.

If you did umbrite day 1, in 10 days that took 7.2 hours a day, and that's without the capped 2k tomes before the patch hit. So, it WAS doable. Clearing anti tower in 15-18 minutes per run. I tanked, and dpsed. :) That is also NOT taking into account doing all your roulette for tomes and getting bonus from new people which dramatically reduced times.

this step is a very nice change of breath after the long umbrite farming. I'll be already more than halfway done after doing my 3rd levelling roulette tomorrow

No, the casual endgame weapons in this game are, and always have been, the Tomestone weapons. The two other endgame weapons, relic and raid, are both intended for non-casual players - just by different flavors of non-casual.

There was a gamescon interview (from the French site Finaland I think) were Yoshi quite literally called the relic weapons an alternative for those who just suck too much at the game to get the other options. So, yeah

Umbrite is 300 tomes, so with 2000 headstart, you'd have have 6 Umbrite right away. You need 80 without bonus procs, so make that 76 for easier calculation - 6 of which you already have. Let's say you can run Aetherochemical in 20 minutes for 150 tomes. So every 40 minutes, you'd get 1 Umbrite. Makes a workload of 2800 minutes or 46,7 hours. Fair enough. I'm on A11S right now and about to leave on a trip for 10 days, so I won't even get A12 down until maybe the end of the month. Even an end relic at 270 is a sexier option to me than overmelding a ring. I turned down the sophie weapon since I didn't want to change my melds.

Actually, some who given up on their relict came back doing it again because of hearing about this step!
I hope SE keep that level and does not add SUPER grind again...

Exactly! With the 260 Book we not only get +13 more crit, but we also get +13 more accuracy, which means we gain 12 more crit, since we can remove an Accuracy meld from gear and add it onto crit. At the 260 stage it is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the 260 Shire Book in terms of weights (even with the bloats SS weight,) but is still behind the Augmented 270 book and 275 Alexandrian Codex. If the rate of growth continues though, at 270, even with less weapon damage, the relic will out damage the Alexandrian Codex. (If you overmeld a ring for +48 acc with a Tier V, IV, IV, IV, IV spread you can meld 2 crit Vs instead of 2 Accuracy on your weapon/gear. You will slightly lose out on damage, but its honestly like losing .5 mind after gaining that 24 extra crit from dumping the Shire Ring, if you do decide to go for the Alex Codex!)

Do the show your work leve in the churning mists and keep abandoning it until you see treasure chests. They are very easy to spot.

if you have a lot of gil you can buy up all the materia and other Market Board items that you can trade in.

Amber-encased Vilekin would be your best bet. There are lots of farming guides online as well. Best thing is, they're a 1 for 1 trade, so each vilekin you get equals one sand.

Several friends have picked up interest in the Relic quest as it is right now, cause of this step, only the umbrite stage is a big grind with a nerf incoming.

Tbh, this is the longest any relic stage should take. This is how the relic quest should be.

The quest said something about "working and sharing information with other people". AFAIK the last time they said this was when we had to get 2000 lights (and presumably working with others was referring to discussing what trial was in bonus every few hours). There's nothing like that in this step, so I found it weird that was included

Eh ... there's no bonus light info to share around, but there is still the "need" to do DR's : the Expert DR daily, and the Leveling DR thrice a week. "Need" in quotation marks because, well, you can skil the daily and weekly quests for the clusters and just grind Lore.

Of course, grinding Lore typically results in grouping with others, which would fall under the description of "working and sharing information with other people" ... whether or not you need to "share information" you typically spend the time "working ... with other people."

You silly thing you! people don't work for gill, it is indeed LESS time consuming, when you can just buy the gill to get the items, which people do a lot of when very important items are expensive. it's not the same as grinding tomes which require you to actually PLAY the game. when you need to buy the items, some poor fool just goes off and spends his money to buy gill, then the items.

I even had this in my face first hand when i was on mumble with an old raid team and they OPENLY talked about buying gill because the items for the 3.1 relics were to expensive. and made it clear they were not alone in doing this. and even back when the ARR relics needed materia, random FC members on an old server freely admitted they buy gill to pay for the price hiked materia, This is why requiring tradable items is, and always will be a bad idea for relics at least to me. Because all it does is encourage gill buying.

So the "legitimate" thing is up for debate.

Umbrite was more time consuming i had found then sand because i use blue script for the sand mainly

Anyone can confirm if you can still take the daily/weekly quests even after complete the i260 step or not?

If we're going to bring RMT into the equation, there are businesses out there who will level your characters for you, and undoubtedly would grind tomestones for you if you paid them to. So it STILL amounts to the same thing.
