I want Viera, but that's becuase I'm a furry that finds cat characters too numerous, and I'm just genuinely not a cat person. So the animal race being cat-like doesn't appeal to me at all. It's just blah.
Viera are beautiful, feminine, ferocious and unhuman. I'd play one in a heartbeat.
That said, I'm growing more and more in favor of expanding the current races over another race.
Looking at Stormblood's larger budget, maybe we'll get lucky and get both, but one of the other would make me happy~
In NA fan festival i dont think they talked about a new race but more about new jobs , lv 70 etc.
Maybe wait JP and EU Fan festival to get more infos .
Thought i still want viera :)
After how Au Ra looked in game compared to their concept art I say keep Viera in Ivalice
That doesn't sound very cute at all, thus will not be playable.
I'm pretty sure most from any Viera thread knows I'm not a fan of Viera at all, but do know that I'm joking... probably (if what was said at Fan Fest is true, then if we ever do get Viera, they'll be given the 'Au Ra' treatment, or worse).
Being a cat has no influence on my opinion of viera.. fran has got to be 1 of my least favourite ff characters after steiner lol i want quinas race from ff9 added xD
Since all races are basically modified Hyur, i don't really care anymore :)
Lalafell=Chibi Hyur
Elezen=Hyur with long necks and ears.
Miq=Hyur cosplaying as cats.
Au'ra=Hyur cosplaying as something remotely resembling dragon.
Roe=Very muscular male Hyur, or exotic looking Hyur female.
Future race=Hyur cosplaying as Frog (Frog hermit sage mode: Hyur with - shaped eyes, and makeup. comes with flashy coat as race-gear. various forms of Naruto, will be most common used names)
Highlander=Hyur master race.
no i don't want Viera. I want someting that doesn't look like Hyur.
Hence, Cute Viera!

Couldn't find another picture. Just find Lyn's from Blade and Soul, they can have bunny ears. This one's giving the eyes and shet.... *shivers*

Like that but with bunny ears, and less eyes. :/
No.
No new race. Focus instead on updating the existing playable races by giving them more customisation options.
I know I'll be in the minority with this, but: I'd love a beastly looking race. Something like Roegadyn but more aggressive looking, with lots of body hair or feathers or leathery skin. Maybe even something you'd normally consider ugly. I know most players like to play very pretty, cute or even sexy characters, but I think it would be a nice change.
Buuut I guess that's never gonna happen, so I'm sticking with a more common opinion: No new race, but updates on the current races. I'd love more face paintings or even tattoos, facial and body (hair) options to get a more unique look.
I share the sentiment with wanting a new race. Ever since XI I wanted a manthra option and was very disappointed when it wasnt in 1.0. I guess to me its weird to just pull a race from another game's existing world. It wouldn't bother me so much but I would rather see something more original since this isn't Ivalice.
How about we get a new chocobo race? I mean we only have three race tracks.
You won't EVER get a beastly furry race nor something wild non human like. The team said this already they won't do that because Japanese do not like beastly races plus they will have to rework all the textures and 3D models of the armors to make them fit so it will never happen. Look how AuRa ended up. They started with the concept of something draconic and they ended up being Hyurs with horns a tail and few scales. Also I think Viera looks really silly. And as we are heading towards Ala Migho a heavy Hyur populated area I don't think there is space for a new race in this expansion. I prefer more customization on the current races than a new Miqote race.
i think there won't be a new race
but thinking about how we've seen a lot of children npcs of the current races in hw makes me think they might allow playing as younger ages of the current races
I would love to see Viera race, or the baby neko race, like khloe :) maybe then I could save some gil and stop going from miqote to lalafel every 2 days!
I'd only approve if it turns out to be ronso or something pretty close.
Bring back the butt slider before we get a new race.
My catboy needs a redonkadonk bedonkadonk.
I'd love Viera to be added in Stormblood and I like the reverse Au ra idea from Heliantheae. Like Fran, make the female taller than the males.
I'm in the "I'd rather have more customisation of current races" camp.
Please don't bring Elin from Blade and Soul into this as an option. They are one of the creepiest race options every made.
I don't know why the creators thought making the "cute" and "short" race in such a sexualized game have the bodies of literally pre-pubescent children, and then just to justify it with animal ears and tails. What kind of audience do they want for their game?

Don't even. At least with Blade and Soul, Lyns (the race from that game), look like kids, opposed to XIV that looks like babies.

Doesn't matter if they add a new race or not. Lalafell will always be master race ;D
Less importantly:
More customization on current races > New race, though not opposed to a new race.
More customisation please, a new race adds even less options and more problems (see au'ra).
Question for all the viera crowd: would you rather have viera or 1.0 butts plus more?
You ignore the other major design choices made in FFXIV in that gear in general isn't overly sexualized, and Lalafell are constantly given toned down versions of revealing gear of what is revealing, especially on the girls.
The art books mention the fact that the team is adamant about keeping Lalafell cute and childlike, and not sexy, at every turn.
That isn't the case with Lyns! (I guess Elin was their name in another language?)
Viera.
I need a race I can settle down with and call my own before I start complaining about my butt size and lack of options ;P
Firstly, you're getting 2 seperate games mixed up. Tera is the game with hyper sexualized lolis and are the race called Elin.
Blade and Soul's race, the game from the pictures, was called Lyn and the vast majority of their gear was also toned down ALOT in comparison to the other hyper sexualized races of that game. I played a bunny Lyn in that game and the main complaint I had was that there was hardly any difference in gear options for them (non-cash shop) compared to other races. Most every piece of gear you got was a full on robe with a bell like object on the front.
Tera's elin on the other hand... well, I played a bunny Elin there too but... well, iirc, most gear was toned down... pretty sure... they didn't wear the nipple tassel gear of other races at least... probably... yeah... lol.
Copyright infringement much?
But, I haven't been into MMOs until recently, so I apologize for misnaming them.
Anyway, Hummingway may have been the idea behind that cute and short variant in the Viera design documents. People have suggested it acting as a sort of Midlander/Highlander tribal thing, but I doubt the dev team would be able to build two races from the ground up like that.
Hummingway as they are in FFIV seem more like a future beast tribe.
More customization: Naturally, we all want this. Getting a new race doesn't necessarily mean we won't get this.
Non-human races: Probably won't happen. Setting aside the whole "JP doesn't want uncute races!" argument, there's a couple other good reasons:
1. Radical changes to armor design. We lost our butts because the devs needed to be able to create uniform armors; how likely is it that they're going to want to introduce a race with digitigrade legs, or whatever?
2. A MAJOR part of the game's plot deals with the conflict between human and beastman races. What sense will it make if one of the "human" races looks less human than, say, Amal'ja?
Viera: I'd prefer to see something new, rather than recycle a previous Final Fantasy race (admittedly difficult, as FF has created a lot of different races over the years, so it may be tough to come up with new ideas). If Viera are added, I'd prefer they NOT be Hyurs with animal ears - but, for example, Lalafell with animal ears might be an interesting variation on the Viera concept. At least then we'd have more than one race of short folk. Dwarves would be another decent idea, if we're going to dip into the grab bag of Final Fantasy races.
None of the races on the pictures seems attractive to me. If they can, pls do not think too much about longer ears. They've done enough with ears. Why not trying feathers and wings? Some bird-like races may be the thing we lack.
I also think that it is a future Beastmen for 4.0
After all, the devs have already created a minion of them

I do not mean simply adding a pair of wings on a body, that's quite a crude way. Designing is not just patching. Wings are enough for an outfit but far from enough for a race. (May I ask what do you mean why they hate? I saw too many opinions in that thread)
Following the way how they design Au Ra, we can see how bird-man works. As an Au Ra has scales, horns and tail to show racial feature, a bird-like race can have feathers surrounding the hair, neck, arms, legs; degraded wings or single wing (unable to fly, or it breaks the balance); and tails (imagine how many kinds of bird tails there will be!).
Well...I'm just attracted by the possible features of bird-like race we can customize---feather style, feather color, tail style... isn't it amazing a little bit?
Better option. No new race as it's just going to be a carbon copy of an already existing race, but with different bits. Also, Viera have rabbit feet and unusual hands, which means SE will replace them with regular human hands and feet (so they wouldn't even be Vieram but a human with rabbit ears).
