Has anyone had a recruit die?
I believe, the initial recruit you need to recruit to even access the system should not be RNG based.
The very first one required to even access the system should be guaranteed from your first challenge log, the rest can drop back to rng.
You don't want the possiblity of someone cmpleting the entire challenge log and not getting a recruit, thus being locked out of the new system for up to a week...

Honestly I am inclinded to think recruits have a time limit. If you don't recruit them fast enough I guess they might go away?
What a difference a day makes. 3 levels put me from "not being ready." to "bound to succeed.". Probably because I hit all of the prereq mission stats.

I've yet to see any concrete reward listed for this. My second in command potato says something about risk vs reward, and I couldn't understand what either the risk or reward could be. Now it looks like you can fail a mission. Is that all? I was kind of hoping I could send my lalafail caster out alone on a mission never to return (since I can't find a way to simply remove them).
I guess the "higher chance of getting a new recruit" item can be considered a reward, but it still just feeds back into the system, like squad exp. Are there any tangible rewards that have an effect outside of the squad room?
Completed 8 or 9 challenge logs and still no new recruits since the first one. Yay RNG.
It can also be a reward for some of the missions. That still requires a workable 4 member squad, but at least it's a lower bar than 1st Lieutenant.
What happens when you fail a mission? Do they just come back without the expected XP boost, so spent a few seals and 18 hours for nothing? What does the sergeant and/or mission report say about it?
(I really think they should flesh out these missions with some details about what happened. Not even the recon mission gave any info, and that's what they went for, to get info. It'd be so much cooler if they had real mission reports that say what happened, what they encountered, etc.)
Well, the fact that you can get that item proves that the system allows for giving out items as a result of missions. Maybe it's just these low-level trainee missions where there's nothing more useful.
All this cruddy RNG just for a fancy coat and hat.
The things I do for vanity...
Since they are changing their gear as they level, I hope they change jobs as well once they hit 30.
I have a problem.
I have 3 archers. I want to go sob in a corner now, because I can't decide which ones I wanna boot, if at all.
I've got...
1 Conjurer (and my only healer)
1 Marauder
1 Gladiator
1 Lancer
1 Thaumaturge
3 Archers
That's what I get for maining Bard. If this later turns into some FF Tactics minigame, we're gonna rain so much death from afar. :/
(And the singing. Can't forget all the singing.)
EDIT: I just realized I can class change the Archers at will later on. Horray!
Woo! Rank 2 achieved! 6 new 20+ missions and attribute cap raised to 280!

Congrats on reaching rank 2! Does that open up First Lieutenant promotion, or does it require a higher squadron rank?
Why am I 3 points short of req and yet the NPC tells me I'll pretty much fail?

Even mental -1 the rest over the standard still "isn't ready" this system is so broken

This is specific to this particular quests, and very probably to all the next ones like this.
It's a special mission, with strict requirements.
Besides, with only a single training in +Men -Str -Tac, your stats with your MRD, LNC, CNJ, ROG would've been above the requirements. So, if your last 3 training were only for EXP, then you're doing it wrong.
No, it's the other way around. His stats are 250/244/256. The mission stats are 235/245/255. So, a difference of +15/-1/+1. Only his Mental is one point below.
But that's a good mistake, it shows the poor ui design regarding total stats vs. mission stats... which is why I'm making a little tool to help me calculate stuff and try combinations. Here are the stats of Ramen just above:

Hi, Thanks a lot for the tool development. I was asking the community before but seems most were clueless even to how complex the issue is, such as choose which 4 members out of 8 particular members, how to plan the 3 training sections...
So far, I'm using someone's Google Sheet to do the calculation, but your interface definitely looks much clearer.
Thanks for your help to the community.
PS... is it possible to put a 9th placement as "new enlistment"? Since you have to recruit or dismiss the first new enlistment in order to see next new enlistment, so one more place is ok... since new enlistment maybe can dramatically change everything...but, by doing so, will increase your data array tho @@:::
Someone on reddit used the data explorer and found when you complete your level 40 mission you unlock the new GC rank.

Ah. I have 8 myself, but I'm alright with how they are. My girlfriend on the other hand... she's been trying to hunt down some very specific NPCs.

I told her to just hire some to have 8/8 that she can switch out, I told her she could always dismiss them... but I wasn't 100% when I said that. Got scared for my life for a moment there, lol.
This doc received an update since someone datamined all the stats for all the units levels depending on their job. So manually setting the stats of your units is already obsolete. Same for the required missions' stats, we have everything 'til Lv.35.
But there's still room for improvements. For example, this doc from /u/FFXIV_Machinist makes you choose your recruits via their names... but that doesn't serve any purpose since you can change the class of your recruits, meaning that the link between the name of a recruit and its class isn't set in stone. Another thing is that toggling recruits in and out quickly isn't possible on that doc, you have to go down each dropdown list.
And I'm pretty sure that sooner than later we'll see real "squadron solvers" where you put all your raw stats and the tool tells you what's the best combination.
