Looking at it Ala Mhigo map wise just doesnt seem to have enough there to warrant a full expansion outside of maybe the opening set piece especially if they are carving up pieces of it already for dungeons. Is the entire expansion going to be the size of 1/4 of the Black Shroud? I am fine with getting into the empires territory and using Ala Mhigo as a staging base for these operations.

Ala Mhigo can be the equivalent of Idyllshire and we should make our way towards Garlemald which would be the equivalent of Ishgard. then the 4.x series of patches can have us rebuild Ala Mhigo.

Do people not realize how small Ishgard's control of the open world area was? They had Coerthas West, half of the Forelands kind of, a quarter of the Sea of Clouds and that's it. Added up it's barely 2 zones, and that's really all Ala Mhigo should get.

A portion of the Forelands, most of Sea of Clouds, Hinterlands, Churning Mists, Azys Lla were basically all foreign to them. If 4.x has similar surface area in the overworld these other 4 places is where the bulk of the expansion is going to be. And this is plenty to establish Garlemald or Doma or wherever they really want to take the story beyond just liberating Ala Mhigo.

The thing I'am thinking is what will be the path to go to the next expansion ?
I mean, for Hevansward,we go to Ishgard first and then we had access to Western Coerthas and Sea of Clouds at the same time to split players I imagine.

But, for the 4.0, will we have access to Ala Mhigo first ?
With the story around this city, I don't think so...perhaps Ala Mhigo will be our final destination.
Then, maybe we will have a new city to discover first, maybe in Xelphatol ? Or maybe in one of the isles, which will be the next Idyllshire ? And why not underearth in Black Shroud in the galleries and anciens cities of Gelmorra which could lead to Gyr Abania ?
It would be interesting to change the standard : 2.0 & 3.0 : City-state at the beginning --> City to build at the end, for 4.0 : City to build at the beginning --> City-state at the end.
I imagine if we start from this new small city in Xelphatol, maybe we will have a path in the Xelphatol Mountains and one other path in Gyr Abania.

I would actually be surprised if they some how made 4.0 include the Garlemald and give us access to the Garlean Empire's capital city.

Maybe not the capital region but at the the frontier areas.

On the map, all that part covered with clouds, could be another region.

There is a reason we cannot just go straight to Ala Mihgo. The current route would mean opening up the Gridania's only wall keeping its enemy out and traversing the foot of an albeit dormant volcano...

Gridania -> East Shroud --> Castrum Oriens // East End Wall -> The Finesand Banks (the foot of a dormant volcano) -> Velodyna River -> Ala Mihgo side of the river -> Gyn Abania -> Ala Mihgo City State -> Ala Mihgo Palace

My concern is that the expansion will feel too samey to Heavensward, the aim being to liberate a city state which we kind of just did with Ishguard. Also airships feature heavily in Ala Mihgo concept art more so than ishguard... so I guess swimming out of the picture.

Well, they said at the beginning of 2.0 that they have story planned until the end of 4.0. So by that time we will be done with mother-crystal, primals, warriors of light/darkness, garleans and stuff. 5.0 will be completly new story and place.

Why? They made this region "just" story dungeon. They can easily make Ala Mhigo and Garlemald dungeons too with Garlean Emperor being dungeon boss and be done with it. Which is actually most likely what is going to happen (or blow them up in cut-scene and say we can't enter them, because they were destroyed).

What has to do this thread related to what are you saing?

You just started poiting out that the main story of the game is about to end and a new one will start. Thats perrty much obious not the case.

PD: It was never confirmed that this 2 new dungeons will be MSQ related, most probably is not gonna be.

If anything, Xelphatol is the optional 'let's go crazy and break stuff' dungeon and the Hard Mode Library is the story dungeon.

Crackpot theory: The very last patch before 4.0 introduces a new field for everyone to play around in, as an introduction/preview of the expansion.

That'd be one heck of a way to hook people into buying the expansion, since doing something like the 2.55 story cliffhanger wouldn't have the same effect anymore. It wouldn't be a predictable thing...

Well the Library is pretty much the go to place to learn things. Perhaps we return to something something Soul Surrender?

pre 2.0 concept art strongly inferred Xelphatol is an un-traverseable mountain range above ground, and a sprawling subterranean area controlled by the Ixal, deep within .

Think floating balloon city interconnected by rope bridges, plus all of that underground in a massive cave.

It would be nice if the dungeon work as a passage to the Xelphatol region. And everytime we want to go to that region, we have to do the dungeon, because there will be no Aetheryte in Xelphatol for teleport.

Derplanders group has been slaying Primals (we've seen them take out Ravana, the recent short story implies they've been taking out plenty more), it makes more sense to me that we're going to Xelphatol for something related to that; Either they've taken out Garuda, or they're going to. We then go into Xelphatol to investigate or stop Derplanders group...

Gumball Library (Hard) strikes me as something similar to the Arboretum; Folks in Idyllshire want something from it. Yes Urianger, Elidiboo and Derplander had a fun little meeting there, but why would we need to go back in for that reason? Urianger/Alisaie can tell us anything important... If the MSQ goes "They were talking about this book, that we left in the Library!", then I'm just going to be annoyed... That's a lazy reason to go back there for the MSQ... Makes far more sense to me that the Ixali have had/will have some encounter with Derplander, and we're going there to get information from them/warn them/etc. "There is an important book in the Library and we left it there so go get it!" isn't going to work for the MSQ IMO, works fine for an Idyllshire sidequest, just like Arboretum...

I'd love to have this as a sort of open world dungeon, personally... SE needs to bring back Hamlet Defense and double down on the Besieged inspired aspects... Imagine defending Lily Hills from the Ixali and failing, then traveling into Xelphatol Subterrain in order save NPCs/reclaim the Astral Candycane... Why is Hamlet Defense still not a thing?! What the hell Yoshida...

I suppose that it's possible that both of the new dungeons will be directly related to the MSQ's this time around. 3.4 and 3.5 are - presumably - the patches separating us from 4.0 so chances are the story is going to become very fast paced and answer a lot of questions. A lot of people also expected the next 'Hard' dungeon to be Snowcloak so the fact that it isn't and is instead Gubal could be very telling.

Ill accept that, it does seem pretty strange, outside of snowcloak being a msq dungeon to begin with, but then so was stone vigil, and we got a hard mode of that in 2.x. Now this interests me because, keeper of the lake may not get a hard mode either, i cant think of any reason to go back there....er well then again that seal on silvertear lake...totally got that hard mode prediction wrong personally

Halatali (I think), Qarn (at least until recently), Longstop, and the inital level 16-18 dungeons also MSQ dungeon, all of which got hard modes.

Xelphatol isn't the story dungeon, Gubal Library (Hard) is considering two certain NPCs were already seen conversing in its halls before. Xelphatol is instead a dungeon linked to our new GC features in some way. And may be the eventual gateway into accessing the now-delayed exploration content for 3.5.

Which would be an incredibly lame and boring plot point... Assuming they're wrapping up this whole Warriors of Darkness stuff by 4.0, would they really waste time sending us into the Library in the MSQ for busy work? Wouldn't it be better to actually advance the plot, rather than make up some excuse to repeat essentially the same reasoning we went in there the first time? Xelphatol I can see advancing the plot; Derplander has apparently been taking out Primals, no reason Garuda wouldn't be on that list...

Alisaie being knocked out is an interesting point though... Granted, we have no sense of the sequence of events with that picture, but last we saw her, Thancred saved her and Elidiboo told Derplander not to follow, so how did she get in such a state?

Until we have a confirmation that one or both dungeons are part of the MSQ, I'm gonna still hold that none are MSQ related.

Remeber, Yoshida had no issues in revealing that Sorh Kai was a MSQ dungeon and that was on the live lletter of patch 3.3 part 1

That could explain why we're getting it as a dungeon, instead of an overworld. If Xelphatol is entirely wilderness, there would be no aetherytes to use teleport.

Every recent patch so far has had a story dungeon... Xelphatol is clearly the MSQ dungeon... Why does Yoshida need to tell you that?

Because he always do that, would make doubt if he does not. It was confirmed that anti tower and sor kai were gona be msq related. Why not this time?
