I think the unhappiness over the event items in the mog station is that historically, SE has made previous rewards ingame when the next event comes out. Making them cash only is the difference now.

I still have my garlond goggles. Useless now since they only work for level 10 and below. These were pre-order / collectors etc bonuses. They shouldn't be re-added.

What's wrong with the exclusivity that comes just from having paid $50 for a soundtrack (or whatever), which not everyone will do? Why should someone else who also pays $50 for a soundtrack not get what you got with it, just because they paid that same price later? I'm in favor of like-for-like repeating of item availability. If it used to be available with purchase of an item, then it should still be available with purchase of that (or an equivalent) item. Now, it would certainly be an insult to simply start giving away stuff that other people had paid for, but that doesn't mean it has to be pulled from availability altogether.

I have a carbuncle minion that I got together with purchase of a plushie. I see no reason why they should quit offering that, nor have they. As long as there are customers willing to buy it, they should continue selling that plushie/minion combo. It's exclusive enough just by the fact that not many do buy it. (They were at least at the time having trouble getting production of the plushies to keep up with demand, but that was neither a deliberate nor desirable limitation. They're supposed to be available to anyone who will order one.)

Thinking about it, the plushie minions may not be sold as exclusives. If they aren't exclusive then I made a mistake including them and apologize for the mistake.

To be honest, my addition of them as an example was really outside the scope of the original request. They were asking for 1.0 exclusives to be added to which I still say no. I added them since Yoshida himself said that the exclusive soundtrack minions will not go to the cash shop.

About sales, isn't that the rational thing to do?
If you do not feel you have gotten your moneys worth after seeing an item on sale, that's the normal feeling you would expect from losing out on any discount, similar to buyers remorse.
Would you react the same way in other situations, if an item is on sale for some (limited) amount of time for a regular price at one place, but was then made cheaper at another place, at another time?
I don't think this is healthy behaviour, as I do not see people going out of their way to protest about sales outside of the game, i.e. real life.

I have several limited edition items that probably amount to just over a thousand dollars, almost all of which turned out to be not too limited, which of course isn't too fun, but I would not go out of my way to make someone less happy, or prevent them from being happier just to satisfy my ego(unless they are into that), in fact, if all of my collection were made non-limited, would that not be better for everyone?
The supply not limited, replacements readily available if needed, I would even have the option of getting it later if I was in a tight spot financially.

I am going to try and answer this in one go, may not quite accomplish it, but I am going to try just the same.

If you or anyone, bought an item for a premium, because you were told that it was limited edition, exclusive or whatever, and the person or company selling it, turns around and sells an infinite number of them, you should be mad as hell.

I will repeat that, mad as hell.

Not mad at anyone that purchased the unlimited item, or asked for it, but at the company that in essence, stole from you.

1) They coerced you into giving them something of value, your money, for something of perceived equal value.
2) Usually with limited run items, the expectation that they will not create more of that item,.
3) If the limited thing you bought becomes more popular, an increase in the value of your item.

To try and answer you concisely as I can for the FFXIV 1.0 situation:

I have no problems with seasonal event items being given freely to anyone and everyone that wants them, 1.0 or not. Event items, all the way back to 2003 with FFXI have always been obtainable in subsequent events, I am ok that they continue that trend.

I am against SE making any "exclusive" items available after their period of initial redemption.

If SE went back on their word, I would be mad with SE for lying to me and deceiving me. In the end, telling me that an item is exclusive and will never come back and then giving it to everyone, is a lie, no matter how you try to justify it. It is fraud.

In the end, it would affect my decisions to purchase so called "exclusives" ever again from them. I think it would affect how other people would act as well. There would be some loss of revenue for SE as a whole and that would not be good for anyone.

On a separate note:
Again, I would not be upset with anyone who purchased it. It is not their fault that SE deceived and lied to the people who bought goods from them. It would be SE's fault.

One other note:
There are some exclusive items that I do not have. I would never ask SE to give me a means to obtain the few items I am missing. They were offered as exclusive, I did not do what was required to obtain them. I accept that I will not gain those items, ever.

What if the reason I bought it wasn't that it was limited and not the ability to say I own a rare item but that I wanted the item itself?

Do you complain about christmas drink being 1 dollar cheaper in summer when you thought it was only on sale during winter and about how the supermarket essentially stole from you?
How they coerced you into giving them money for something you thought was an equal trade?
Maybe it doesn't matter the first time, it's just 1 dollar, but how about 50 christmases in?
What if you bought 50 on the first christmas, would that make it worse, since you couldn't have known?
Would you demand you be refunded 50 dollars?

Absolutely, clearly, it's a loss to sell to 100% of your customers instead of just the ones who visited your store that one time a few years ago!
In my eyes, revenue-wise, it would be a good idea to make them available in exchange for money, since nobody loses anything, and they only gain money from it. If you are using a certain micro-transaction master as a guideline for your thinking, remember that those items are tradeable, these are not.

I don't think that is a good example, so lets try this one. You buy a coin from the royal mint it says only 250 will be made, then 6 months later they release the same coin at a fraction of the cost and say unlimited availability. Are you saying you would be ok with this ? I know I wouldn't I would be fuming and would never purchase anything that was exclusive again.

Your above example is rubbish as the product is always available.

I would say "No!"

Those items should stay exclusive to those who were dedicated to the game during it's unfortunate times. Giving 2.0 players access to those items will no longer have value to the players' hearts from 1.0, and will only be seen as a financial value rather than personal bonds.

I did not say it was not wrong, I said it should not affect your decision to purchase an item, whether it is "rare" or not, but rather the item itself should be what makes you buy it.

I wouldn't be mad because I don't value items per rarity, if you regret a purchase later because other people are allowed to have what you have, maybe you should think about why you bought it in the first place, if you didn't buy it because you wanted the item itself, but rather the status of the item.

I think the Hermes' shoes would be OK to add back in - this is the one that required an active sub in both XI and XIV to obtain during the days of 1.0. I really don't see anything special about subbing to two different games, so no biggie (IMO) here.

Dalamund horn I feel should stick with 1.0 players only. This was a reward for those that stuck around until the end and managed to complete one of the final (THE final?) fights in the game. I was not around during this time, but from everything I've read, this fight was actually quite challenging, and it definitely deserved a reward. And c'mon! The achievement that gave you the horn was called "Once in a Lifetime".

CE items from 1.0 I think should also stay with 1.0 characters/accounts only. This was a completely separate game, and those players are the ones who supported the game at that time, etc.

CE upgrades for ARR should be allowed though. There are a variety of reasons why someone may have opted for a standard edition when they first started - let them pay a bit extra and get some cute items.

Selling and buying are not the same thing.
If other people sell things for 1 gil that I have bought for millions, that's up to the people selling it, that's the free market.
Supply and demand determine the price of a product, and clearly, gil will get me items I think look cool, so I will want as much gil as I can get from any items I sell.
This has nothing to do with the rarity of said items, it has everything to do with supply and demand, even with an endless source, an item may be high in price, simply because the demand is high.
For example: mariner cotton cloth, people weren't interested before the patch with the new moonfire outfits, but afterwards because people wanted it, the demand increased.
The rarity of the item is exactly the same as before, only the demand has increased to a point where the price is as high as it is.
You can argue that an item that is low in supply is more rare because the demand outweighs the supply, but when we are talking about 1.0 items, those items can not even be obtained at all, meaning the supply is ZERO, and thus that definition of rarity does not apply, as it is simply unobtainable, not rare.

It's human nature, so get over it. People really love rare and exclusive stuff. From cars to trading cards, there is always limited edition and/or promo items that people go nuts over. Just because YOU don't care about exclusivity does not mean the rest of the human race doesn't. Consumerism is heavily motivated by 'have" and "have not" and you are asking a company to take a a limited edition item, lie to their most loyal customers about these items being limited/promotional, hurt their credibility in future promotions,and put the items in the cash shop for a dollar?

I have some advice for you, instead of getting on your high horse of entitlement, just deal with the fact that some people miss out on things. People missed out on limited edition pixels, big deal! Get over it.

Ok, I could agree with that one, too, just because of how truly unique that situation was.

I don't agree about the CE items, though. They weren't given for supporting the game specifically during it's initial iteration. At the time they were purchased, there was no assumption that they would stop being readily available. That only happened because the game failed, was discontinued for a while, and then was re-created and re-launched. But nobody anticipated back at 1.0's launch that that would happen. A CE upgrade would still make perfect sense for those.

So, as I see it:

pre-order bonuses : exclusive by how they're marketed/sold (though in fact they already made an exception when ARR was released on a new platform several months after it's first release, giving another much later chance at those same pre-orders)
legacy tattoo and chocobo : exclusive by SE's promise. These are the ones that actually were created for the express purpose of rewarding 1.0 players for supporting the initial pre-calamity game.
Dalamund horn : could be considered exclusive due to the unique circumstances of reaching the end of a game as it's closing.

CE bonuses : non-exclusive
Hermes' shoes : non-exclusive
rewards from any other quest or event in 1.0 (besides the very final quest before the game shut down) : non-exclusive
rewards from events that have or will take place in 2.0, 3.0 and beyond : non-exclusive

I just think that too many people try lumping every quest reward or event item that came during the initial run of the game as being the same as legacy rewards. They're not. The legacy tattoo and chocobo serve that purpose, but not every item they got through the whole run of 1.0/1.x.

Sorry, but I personally think they should stay as they are, no longer obtainable.

Essentially they are a type of rare veteran rewards and the only people with them were those that played back then and bought/did what was needed at the time.

I wouldn't mind a legacy chocobo or the original goobbue mount, but I didn't get either, I certainly would have paid those few months during the qualifying period if I have known (for the chocobo), but I didn't and I didn't get. Annoying, but that's that.

As far as I remember both the Garlond Goggles (for the regular version of the game) and the Onion Helm (Collector's Edition) were available for the entire run of 1.0 (just over 2 years!). They didn't come with first editions of the game or anything like that, they just came with the game it self. Although it wasn't ideal, if someone really wanted both items, you just had to buy the game twice (I did...). Sure a collectors upgrade would have been nice, but there wasn't one. We also knew when the game was going offline for massive changes so although we didn't know 100% items would no longer be available... if they were that important it would seem then would have been a good time to actually get them before it went offline.

I don't have any of those items. I think people who played back then deserve their small amount of exclusivity. Get over it, you don't need every last item in a pretend world of pixels.

To op and other's alike. No way, no how and will never ever gonna happen. You an players that never played any part of version 1 should not nor will have these items. I and many others whom stayed playing an broken game. Helped make ffxiv what it is today. Se has stated no and forever will say no if I deleted my account and started over I loose what I've got and it's sol. It's like playing ffxi and wanting to get the teleport neck accessory from an physical item which was sold long time ago.

I will change my mind about others getting a replica, but only if they can be called herpes shoes

I think they should release the items so all the special snowflakes can get over themselves bout being legacy. Not saying all are like that ofc. Im really sick of those people posting on forums how they supported SE in their troubled times and they should have this entitlement and the like. Its disgusting.

It's more that the special snowflakes that don't have what they want should learn that they will not have everything. They need to get over it.
This may not be worth much coming from me considering my status, but it's not like I have every item ever myself.

I think some things from 1.0 should stay with the people who played it back then.
Not because they 'supported' it because they were there in 1.0 lol. Not because they 'supported' it.
Things like pre-order / CE and stuff should really not be given away honestly. :/
