It's an event. Do it or don't do it and get over it.
I'm more annoyed at the volume of things that were added for such a small cross-over event.
I've been playing since just after HW launched, and this is more than all the other events I've seen combined... And has nothing to do with Final Fantasy.
Just seems odd to put that much effort into it.
God the event not start yet and there's disappointed thread already appeared.
ohhh boy, here we go again...
We already had this thread all the way back when they first announced this colab
and these weapons looks till better than some of the completely ridiculous PvP gear btw
I'm okay with that. It allows more time for the 'disappointment in the disappointment' threads. to appear.
Honestly, it's things like this that make me hate people - which really is the largest source of buzzkill and damage to my 'immersion'. I just try to ignore them.
I thought it was pretty clear that these kinds of event are not canon and only have the flimsiest of Lore excuses, SE is not forcing anyone at gunpoint to do these kinds of events. Hell, they're not even forcing anyone into doing the ones that are more lore-appropriate like Heavensturn, All Saint's Wake and such. Hell, I've skipped Hatching-tide for a while because I'm not all that into Easter.
If you follow that logic, we've been doing Heavensturn for 3 years now, so the Battle of Carteneau happened 8 years ago yet the NPCs still refer to it as "5 years ago" so your immersion was shot a long time ago. Step by the Lore forums to complain about the time bubble!
I really wasn't gonna respond to this since I tend to avoid General Discussion on principle (seriously, it's like no one in here even LIKES this game) but your assumption that one isn't a true Final Fantasy fan unless you are willing to throw a hissy fit over something that no one is forcing you to do in an MMO (especially one that has a history of cross-game events) is not only completely pedantic but also wrong. You can't tell any player they're not a "true fan" of something unless they enjoy it the same way you do. Is a Lightning Returns fan that enjoys having Lightning cosplay as a miqo'te not a true fan of LR?
Really hope this was a troll post and OP isn't serious...
What you guys might like, others will hate and vice versa.
The thing is to learn to accept other peoples idea of fun and entertainment ;)
Like me personally, I think PVP has no place in a MMORPG, but I know many people love it, so I am not going to complain to SE to remove it in favour of something I prefer ;)
The day someone quits the game over immersion is the day I laugh at them for quitting over something so arbitrary.
I haven't even seen the event yet or the items, but that's completely missing the point. I'm not supporting the OP but saying 'don't take part' doesn't somehow make those things disappear from the rest of the game. It's not a valid argument to make when that's not why the OP is disappointed.
Again, I haven't even seen the items so I'm not supporting the OP in any way until I can see for myself.
You want something better? 72 Warrior of light in frontline
I'm confused where this hard feelings are coming from, OP?
Like, calling the items "stupid" - sure, they look a bit silly and fluffy, but that seems to be the point of them and some people might enjoy them, whats so horrible about that? Because, breaking news: This isnt YOUR game - its SE's game and its for all of us to enjoy.
Pulling the "Then you're not a TRUE Final Fantasy fan card" makes me instantly believe that you cant be older than 12 - who cares? Isnt it enough already that people hate each other because of their religion etc.? Must you bring this silly sort of thinking into something thats a game and supposed to be fun? If this event is not fun to you, you can choose not to do it. But dont run around and tell other people how to enjoy their game please. Like really, who cares if you're a "TRUE" fan? And how narrow-minded must one be to limit themself to only being a TRUE fan of one game...
I even have trouble to understand how you can argue with "lore" and "immersion" breaking, seeing how you're playing a female Au Ra - something that from a lore-point of view raises a lot of questions and should have been terribly game breaking for you already when a certain NPC showed her face...
I dont even expect being able to argue with you, but I would like to understand why you're THIS upset about a silly, little event that is supposed to be nothing but fun...
I don't think its really an immersion issue as it is an aesthetic issue for me.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will come and go like everything else has.
I'm entirely convinced OP is trolling the boards, they haven't replied in a long while...
1. Its not my game.
2. I am not "hating" on something that people enjoy.
3. I am not quitting the game because of this.
Is it so much to ask that a game based ENTIRELY around Final Fantasy... Simply stay, BASED AROUND FINAL FANTASY... Put that crap in any game you want. I'm not saying it isn't fun. I'm just saying... It has absolutely nothing to do with Final Fantasy in a game that is completely designed around FINAL FANTASY FAN SERVICE.
Ok? I like my Big Mac as a Big Mac. I don't want to go and buy a Big Mac someday and have it be replaced with Chicken... or a Taco. Ok? That doesn't make me a hater. That doesn't make me Salty. That doesn't make me a troll.
I play this game. Because it is a game marketed and designed to the absolute CORE. As a Final Fantasy Fan Service MMORPG. I like silly things ok? Moogle Weapons? Go for it. Chocobo Heads? Fine by me. I'm just saying its lore breaking and its a cheap, blatant cash grab.
Also as someone else said... yes it is completely ridiculous. Not only is it lore breaking... not only did Yoshida say that they wouldn't do these types of events... its a complete cash grab on SE's part. It really is no different than having a Pizza Hut event that rewards Pizza Hut themed equipment. Its not fan service.
I would bet my entire paycheque that less than 1/10th of the games population cares about Youkai Watch (I had never even heard of it prior) and that is including the JP population.
Its not an anime.
It is a Childrens Show.
Its like putting Teletubbies into the game. Ok?
Not once was the thought "I bet the community would really like this".
The whole thing was "Gee... how can we line the pockets of Squares CEOs even more." Oh right.... SPONSORED CONTENT
I understand not everyone (most people) actually hate Final Fantasy 13. It wasn't my favourite. Ok? But its still a Final Fantasy title. At LEAST as much as Secret of Mana. So its still Fan Service.
Literally everything in this game Items, Armor, Music, Weapons, Enemies, Bosses, Spells, Abilities, Locations, Factions, NPCs, Cities, Races is at least Native to FFXIV OR to other FF Titles.
Flying Turtle? Don't care. OK? Final Fantasy "Can" be silly. Thats perfectly fine. Ok? Theres lots of silly things in Final Fantasy.
Just don't break the lore with blatant sponsored content is all I'm saying.

QQ I want the game as I will QQ
I am not a fan of the series, but I can understand why SE wants to promote this game in FFXIV:
- Yokai Watch is very popular in Japan, so popular that their merchandise outsold those of Pokemon in 2014 and 2015.
- Just like most toys/tv shows etc made for children (Pokemon, Digimon, My Little Pony), they have a huge adult following.
- Yokai Watch is not popular in the NA/EU/AUS region, so by promoting this game via FFXIV, they might reach those Pokemon, Digimon fans who want to try something else.
- FFXIV was promoted via a Yokai Watch game last year or was it 2014, it was in of those years. The chocobo and moogles are also present in their latest game.
- Level 5, the company that develops the Yokai Watch games, creates the Dragon Quest games for Square Enix.
- Yoshida is friends with creator (I think he was the creator) of Yokai Watch.
Well, as a Japanese game, Japan is ALL ABOUT crossovers. Square Enix, even moreso.
If I see any of this stuff in game, I just chalk it up to whimsy. I mean we have the Slime King crown, an exaggerated, phallic pompadour hairstyle, a flying broomstick, legendary beasts as common mounts, and a pig mascot costume. Sure, maybe they don't quite fit into the game's world, but we have plenty of weird things that are part of the lore and world; Captain Longhaft, anything remotely related to Hildebrand, an entire noble house dedicated to playing match-maker, Leviabeetus, a goblin cult that has sacred cheese, and a wandering pompadour hitman squad... so when you look at it from that perspective, relatively, cartoony monster minions and weapons aren't so out of place.
"Hello, payment to complain in forums"
Your complaint is stupid from the moment the game has missions that refer to other games or culture. What's more, your complaint starts talking of "COMPLETELY BREAKS THE IMMERSION OF THE GAMES LORE" when the game goes breaking the inmension from the moment you walk in PVP to fight 72 Warriors of Light .
You know that all crossover events are not canon within the universe of the game?
And people wonder why they don't care about NA/EU servers, jeeze. This is exactly why :(
I have 0 issues with crossover events, from any game, of any kind. Its just a game at the end of the day, immersion is only so possible to me ever as I never lose sight ....that's its just a game Oo.
the mount is so goofy it is cute...must get that :)
Im not belittling the op opinion though, to each their own, and people should always voice their opinions.
Excuse me?

Maybe have a read.
It's explained pretty well in the games lore if you actually followed the story.
The only other Crossover event that has been in game that has not been in the Final Fantasy universe has been the Dragon Quest event and that was trash as well.
PvP (like in FF14) was also in FF11. Making it native to both FF11 and FF14. = Not lore breaking. PvP is also a game mode.
Its no different than Final Fantasy Dissidia.
Same universe = not lore breaking. No matter how stupid. How silly. How much you hate it. Its still fan service any way you look at it.
Youkai Watch is sponsored content. NOT fan service.
I don't understand what you're not understanding. I am not being salty. I am not being a hater It just simply is not fan service.
Why is that so hard for people to admit?
Rather than attacking me... Just say. Yes. You're right. It isn't fan service. It is a blatant cash grab for sponsored content and I ENJOY IT. Instead of putting up this ridiculous argument of somehow trying to say that I'm wrong in saying its not fan service in a game thats core design is around final fantasy fan service. You can still own your belief without trying to trash talk who doesn't believe the same as you.
Not everything in life is this versus that. Just because you're for something doesn't mean youre against the opposite.
You enjoy the content? Thats great. But I am not wrong, AT ALL in saying it is not in the least bit related to the games core design and selling points.
I thought this was going to be a post about making the event another atma grind...ill move along now
Thank you for giving me the reason, 72 light warriors fight in a battlefield without apparent reason go see ass to kick their Ascians, all very logical
Now you can cry more when you hear this
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/F..._XIV/Allusions
Logic or not.
Its a part of the Universe. Thats the bottom line.
If Youkai Watch was an official Final Fantasy title (Youkai Final Fantasy) with crystals and potions and phoenix downs and recurring themes... I wouldn't care in the least about it being in game. But the bottom line is that its not and it doesn't belong in a game that is designed around Final Fantasy fan service.
As for your "Allusions".
I never once said that references to other games, movies, pop culture etc weren't ok.
These references are almost exclusively quest names and NPC dialogue which is done in a way that is not lore breaking. There isn't a statue of Homer Simpson anywhere in game. Its in a very brief quest name and a very subtle reference at that.
I can't believe crap like this is still an issue when we are getting bombarded by RMT tells before we can even get loaded into the game...
Complain about something that matters.
I get like 10 tells a day at most (If I'm idling in town) on Behemoth.
I guess I'm wrong in thinking that a game marketed as a Final Fantasy game in the Final Fantasy universe, designed around Final Fantasy Fan Service... should y'know... like... stay about Final Fantasy Fan Service.
I can't wait to play Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare with the free (optional) (but still able to be seen) Bratz issue BDU complete with Pokeball Grenade skins.
I can't wait to play the next GTA online with its event that instead makes you go around doing the laundry and good deeds for the citizens of Liberty City.
I am so excited to play the next Dark Souls game where I can run into a guy wearing a Gundam themed suit of armor.
Well honeslty, i don't care about the event being out of lore, the items are nice (most of them) the minions are cute and if SE gets money for it and use it FOR FF14 ONLY, great.
If it troubles you that much, you can always see it as some kind of carnaval for eorzean children, minions being plushies and weapons being false one for them to play the hero. Nothing prevents you from creating your own lore at some point :)
The problem is that money doesn't funnel into FF14. Thats why we get such watered down content patches. Thats why relic weapons were delayed until almost a year after the Expansions release.
Most of that money is going into the development of FF15 and mobile titles.
No, I'm talking about the fact that with glamour someone could be in your raid group or fighting Thordan EX in a maid outfit or a bikini, which obviously don't originally belong in the "lore" of FFXIV. You're bothered more by some minions? It's optional, casual content that you don't have to do. Most of the minions and mounts already in the game aren't exactly consistent with the world anyway. You weren't bothered by Lightning and FFXIII weapons showing up? Just because it's from Final Fantasy means it's OK? We had Dragon Quest events too, did you cry over them as well? Do you curse at whoever wears a Slime King hat?
Also, you seem to think this game is purely about fan-service. I'd have to strongly disagree having played since 1.0, the fan service is something they have decided to add to cater to people who weren't already playing and try to promote the game a bit. It is no way what the game is built around.
According to the descriptions of what is acceptable for immersion purposes you are contradicting yourself with this statement. It's still in the same universe, it isn't adding anything from outside that universe. The fact that you aren't killing someone isn't immersion breaking. You think that just because you play as a criminal, you don't occasionally have to do some laundry, or help your old neighbor lady take out her trash?
In my opinion if you can defend tanks in wedding gear, healers in bikinis, and DPS in chocobo suits just because they "belong to the universe" but then use this as an example, you sir/madam are a troll, and not a very good one at that.
Good day to you.
I wasn't bothered by the Lightning event at all because its still Final Fantasy. Not my favourite but its still one of them.
Again though, Bikini's don't bother me. Final Fantasy has never been about realism. I'm not talking "Medieval Times" style lore. Just the universe.
Like I would not expect a bikini in Dark Souls.
Being that there has been a number of scantily clad characters in Final Fantasy over the years though, its not lore breaking.
It's unrealistic, but not lore breaking of the Final Fantasy universe
Aside from the fact that it doesn't fit the universe, its infuriating that its sponsored content. Designed to sell us a product and dressed up as something it isn't.
