You shouldn't have to be 50 to glamour. You shouldn't have to be 50 + 2nd Lieutenant just to have your own room. You should be able to have fun PvPing a lot sooner (if that's your thing). The Heavensward jobs shouldn't be gated behind 100 hours of story-locked content.

Just let players have a better time enjoying more features early on. You don't need leveling potions.

Disclaimer: I'm on a lower pop server.
Now that that's out of the way, I powered through to lvl 50 and full rank so I could buy a second house on an alt when this last patch came out. The story line gives great easy exp so I mixed that in with dungeons, fates, leves, etc. I have my house and I forget where I'm at in the story but definitely on my way.

I still have a sprout on my head....

It doesn't take that long.

If you're talking a potion that instantly levels you up, then definitely C. I didn't go through all this trouble to get my classes to 50+ just for someone else to buy their way there. No free rides. On the other hand if it's a potion that just gives you an +% XP gain boost then I'd be cool with that, option A (maybe wait until next expansion for option B). You get there faster, but not instantly.

Don't we already have this an something you can activate via a FC (Exp boost)? DoL and DoH obviously have this with the scrolls or whatever you can buy using GC points.

We do, but I think they're only for specific aspects of gameplay (+10% when gathering, +10% chocobo XP etc). It sounded like the leveling potions had across-the-board effects. They shouldn't give +500% or anything, but I'd probably say +_20_% would be a good number. You'd feel the speed, but not enough to be an instant teleport.

My vote is absolutely no. Leave it as is.


(I personally feel this is just another ploy to make players strive to become mentors and give more purpose to the novice network. With more players power leveling and not knowing how to actually play the game or their class; the mentor feature would have more of a reason to exist. Granted, we already know that if this is indeed even the case, it would still fail because of bad mentors.)

I'm ok with the idea if it was implemented properly. It would make it less daunting for new players to jump into the action; but they need to make it so that those new players do actually learn how to play their chosen roles. This will be a very slippery slope and will require a lot of extra thought.

I am 100% for this idea. As someone who puts a lot of his time into raiding, I don't have a lot of time to level other classes. I would enjoy playing other classes in casual content, maybe even bringing them into savage content, but I often feel punished leveling a DPS due to the very long que times for leveling daily/dungeons. I think you should have to have 2 or 3 max level classes before being able to use a jumping potion, and they should be limited to DoW/DoM jobs. I personally would like if the titles associated with the max level jobs were striped away when using the jumping potion. For example, if I leveled my WHM/SCH/AST and use a jumping potion for my BLM, I should not receive the "Grand Master of Magic" title.
While there may be some problems with this idea, I am for it and hope it see it in the game.

I voted to leave things as they are. Everyone has had to level the original way through the multitude of roulettes, FATEs, dungeon runs, MSQ and other quests and I don't see why someone should get an advantage over others by throwing extra money at SE. and I absolutely hate pay-to-win features, especially in a game that already requires a monthly subscription.

I come from FFXI (played from 2005-2012), leveling a job to 75 could take months. XIV is already ridiculously easy to get your first job to level cap due to MSQ exp, anything after that comes from everything else mentioned and is still ridiculously quick compared to pre-Abyssea FFXI. Kids these days... :rolleyes:

Maybe just make the process easier slightly with a EXP%+ manual like the crafting/gathering ones from the Grand Company?

I would agree on a Level potion for a new character up to 50-53 as well as an MSQ potion up to 2.55... however, up to 60 is a no. The main thing people are complaining about is the MSQ and not so much the grind to 50/60.

Frankly I rather they didn't implement anything to this effect. Instead make most of the fetch quests sidequests instead of MSQ, as well as adding content for people in the early levels, like maybe a zone with its own side story and plot that is unrelated to the current Ascian or Garlean conflicts

I don't think they should. Maybe in the future, but probably not for a couple of expansions.

Personally I think that if they're going to offer any kind of progression jump, it should not be sold in the cash shop but rather available in game somehow or with purchase of the game or expansion, and if level-based then not all the way up to the current level cap. Give players some room to be required to learn their jobs before going into endgame. Though I'd rather it not be level-based.

Most of what gets complained about seems to be content gated behind the main story, so if that were separated from progression while giving players vanity incentives to complete, there shouldn't be a need for a jump. Allow players access to the expansion at early levels and give them new leveling areas, dungeons or whatever, with benefits that allow faster leveling.

FFXIV is fun at whatever point your at, beginner or veteran. It would take away from any meaning or fulfillment to be brand new but level 60 or 70 and already completed the main story quest. It's not like a veteran can't play with a new friend thats just starting out. There's already things like the friendship circlet to boost things along.

As far as people not interested in the MSQ you can skip the CS for the most part.

They have a mentor system to help new players and if all player are capped so quickly no one will ever get the mount.

If new players want to do new content and just the new content, maybe a Final Fantasy game isn't for them.

Idunno. Maybe I'm biased, this being the first MMO I've picked up. Maybe I'm biased from playing through so many other FF games. Maybe I'm biased because I'm just an incredibly patient player (played something like 9 months, slow and steady, all classes are only in the 40s range). But the idea of just skipping all that seems wrong. Not, like, morally wrong, but, disappointing wrong.

Maybe it would make more sense after the game has been out a while longer. But it's only a few years old right now, at most, right? Take some time, appreciate some of that work the devs put in. I feel like just jumping to the end misses out on really connecting with the game.

But I also acknowledge that there's many different play styles. So, some people might enjoy a power level method. Some may yet be content without. Making accommodations for many styles could be a good thing. But every design decision has its consequences.

Was complete BS that WoW did this, and it goes against Yoshida's promises that the cash shop would not be p2w.

They do this why not sell Gear, XP boosters, Crafting boosters, and reset scrolls in the cash shop as well.

Hell they go down this route they can even sell reraise scroll insta raise to max hp, mp, all cooldowns reset, with no weakness, unlimited uses for only 1 dollar a pop. Never lose a raid again with scrolls of insta-raise! It will not be p2w because people can clear it without it right? They can even make it convenient for purchase is bad situations. Where you choose what happens when you dies it becomes an option. Return? Options => <purchase insta raise> This will be huge and flashing taking up at least 1/4th screen. <Return to start> <no> These 2 options will be under a more options button that is on the lower right corner.

Yea ok maby my example is alittle absurd... but if they want this game to be a cash shop game. Drop the sub simple as that and make it a pure cash shop game. Do not make me pay then offer lazy people, a option to buy progression. That is complete BS.

Fair enough you want to expand the playerbase and I will say that a very common topic in the novice network is the grind and just how long things take but screw that, thousands of people have done that grind, be they hardcore raiders, part time players who only play a few hours a week or whatever, I think that would be a huge slap in the face to them tbh.

one of the key things about Final Fantasy that drew me in was STORY! Final Fantasy has always been about epic story and even in this game, for the most part it's epic.

A power leveling potion? why? do people need to be Lvl60 in Ilvl220 gear so they can clear the first trial against Ifrit?

I wouldn't mind a powerlevel potion if it takes them to 50 and lets you jump all the 2.x msq. The job/class quests would still be there, as would the 10 levels of education you got fron 3.x.


Gotta say I love the idea of at least a quick lv50 jump for my alts to add rooms to my fc house with ease.

i think 4.0 with a recap of msq is fine without a level skip, just make classes like rogue available from the start. if theyre going to ala migho anyway, it would make sense to have the starting cities as is, as far as story? idk. looks like palace of the dead would be a good place to start[levelling], or if they offer new jobs at 30 have quests for levelling within the original cities.i think not locking ishgard to 50 is fine, considering if we go back to east of the main cities, youd need to pass through coerthas anyway. lower that requirement to 30, and all is gravy, you can hit 15 in about an hour doing logs and such it shouldnt be far fetched to spend a day and a half or two to unlock the current new jobs, as well as the new new ones

I don't care if they don't want to enjoy the story, there lost no mine, but i don't want to play with someone not knowing the basics of his class !

The only exp potion i would put up with is a alchemist made one unavailable to the mogstation, only buyable with gil and even then it should be for topping your exp off when you only need a little bit more exp to level. Not to actually power level. Give it a medicated status effect of x hours, so players can't sit there popping potion after potion.

That being said i would be happy to never see one what so ever.

People!! Understand that what we veterans went through was already alot, too many patches to keep the story fresh and interesting, why would you want to skip everything that we already went through? The way story is implemented in this game is a bad model, so blame that. I'm sure it was great when you got to take it in little bite-sized doses every update, when you'd already had your fill of content, but new people have had to linger behind for days, weeks, or months when they paid for a video game, not a storybook.

Saying this as someone who memorized lore books back when they were a thing... from games with no quests and cutscenes, because the story never interfered with my ability to pick up and progress in gameplay. Also as someone playing FF games for 20 years, all of which knew things like that cutscenes were for important points of the game, not every other fetch quest (and even then, they slipped up with things like Knights of the Round or Supernova, which nobody really liked past the first 2-3 times).

For JP and Asia Region players maybe even EU I could see the level skip-potion being effective BUT for the NA player base, I don't see it working out too well. We already have the worst skilled player base, Raid statistics showed that in 3.0 and 3.1. You can't even say it would be "paying for convenience' considering how "inconvenient" it would be to have week old players trying to enter End Game content with no experience. I would liken it to trying to teach a newborn how to run.

No good would come from it, it will only create more players who already don't take the time to learn the basics, increasing the pool with more rushed players jumping into content they aren't physically or mentally prepared for.

I would prefer if they just made the "Story Arcs" Optional for older areas.

Meh, let it happen (to 50. Legacy players technically experienced this back when Open Beta launched). Just make it so that if a player uses it, they have to go through an instance that forces them to do the Jobs proper level 50 rotation.

Spam Blizzard without trying to cast Fire III (and then Fire to learn about the Firestarter trait) or Thunder (to learn about the Thundercloud trait)? Duty Failed, do not pass Go, do not collect $200. I'd use other Job examples, but BLM is my main and is easier for me to use as an example.

Yoshi-P mentioned the China Cash Shop in his interview, I took a look at the shop and gathered some information regarding the progression and leveling packages they sell.

You don't just get a job boost btw but you also get access to Silver Chocobo feathers which are used to buy equipment and Gil (a total of 2million for all 10 job packs and 2300000 for all the job packs and the quest progression pack.)

This 2mil is for one character, so if you had money to spend you could probably get more for various characters if you wanted.

I don't see the hard in both of those. The 3.0 to 3.3 MSQ is very fluffless, but the 2.1 to 2.5 has a bunch of running around that adds almost nothing to the story. You can probably half the quests there and still get the same story experience. At the same time, if people had more enjoynment tackling those queuests as a MCH, or DRK, or AST, let them!

Are we talking some 10-33% bonus exp while the potion is active or a level skip?

I'd rather just see a lot of the ARR MSQ prior to the events connecting to Heavensward made condensable. Can still do them for exp and story if desired, but can also skip ahead.

If they do such a thing i just hope we'll get some way to see who did it, to make sure we won't be forced to play with players just buying their levels

The MSQ is the best thing about this game. It would be a shame if people are able to skip it.

It does need a bit of clean up though. Just remove some of the filler.

I don't see a problem with a level skip. Eventually it will be needed when more expansions come out. It wasn't so bad when ARR came out but with the patch story and HW and soon HW patch story that is a lot. The sad truth is most people don't care about story at one point SE said most people skip it and this is why they put dungeons really early in it so people don't need to waste too much time if they don't like it.

If they'd either increase the amount of XP for certain areas of the MSQ, or remove some of the level requirements, that would help a lot. For example, I completed one of the MSQ quests at 47. But I couldn't get the next part until 49. Then you only get about a quarter of the way towards 50 before you are blocked again because you aren't 50. It's a little annoying to be blocked like that. Either nerf some of the quests and remove the level gates, or increase XP so we don't have to stop and do other things to level up.

I agree with NO potion though. Or a potion icon to show what people used it. :P

Leveling potions would be fine as long as they are **within reason**, and a procured at specific points in the vertical progression to assist new players during the dead phases.

No instant 50 or 60. But if it alleviates some of the grind of 20-45 I think that would be fine.

If, for example, the potions were Untradeable, and rewarded by *some* of the MSQ quests of 2.0, to help push that story questline into an even more linear progression, that would be swell. And as others have said, maybe scale back some of the 'filler' quests of the 2.0 MSQ or just lower the quests objectives so they can be completed more quickly.

(Before facing Ifrit, for example, there's like 5-6 MSQ quests all provided via the same NPC. Truncate those quests into a singular quest or 2, with a leveling potion that compensates for the loss of the 4-6 other quests rewards that would have been provided currently).

Something like this is an approach I believe would be reasonable. Maybe then even, an un-tradable version purchasable from Revenant's Toll via 1,200 poetry, and only works 1-50.

Essentially a buffed version of the Engineering/Survival Manuals that are DoW/DoM specific. For 51-60 a different manual that is peppered in as a reward of some 3.0 MSQs, that boosts 51-60 progression.

tl;dr
As long as it's within reason (ie these potions aren't falling from the sky, specifically/strategically rewarded at progression spots where help could be used), I'm not concerned.

Also, as others are saying. Expansion storylines, can they consider making them separate of the MSQ? I think that is what this game badly needs. It's story focus, but every patch/expansion is the same story, just another chapter. Branch out! Save the Scions/primary conflict etc for Content patches, but expansions give their own storyline subplots that can begin from any point in the MSQ.

Look at Chains of Promanthia, and how that xpac story began with lvl 30 missions! Brought high and low, new and old players together.

I would like to see them have it that at lvl 30, you unlock the means to travel to any content area to unlock future classes (provided that you have purchased the content and do whatever story missions (or new story mission) that would grant permission. This would be like the airship pass mission you get at whatever level you get it at. Story missions should be for exactly that, the story. Class/job missions are completely separate from the MSQ.

This suggestion is inspired by how FFXI did things. I would like to see the xp boost gear (the ring and the helm) work up to lvl 50 since 50 and below content is nigh useless. I don't have the expansion, but it's hard to consider it "endgame" for those w/o HW when it will be glaringly apparent to them that there is more content and future upgrades that exist out of their reach.

SEriously, I will never understand the Chinese/Korean mindset. If you want to be competitive in a game, that's fine, I'm competitive myself.. But a game should never become a "I pay more I pwn you" mindset.... Skill, knowledge, experience, team play, alertness, reflexes... Those shall always be the ultimate values of gaming, never your real life monneys... We already live in a damn neo-liberalism world where we only matter by how much wealth we got... At least keep that fact away from our fantasy, from our games.

They already give people a new set of gear through dungeons, and rings that give bonus experience through lvl 30 (when you unlock the new Jobs). I dont want this to be be the WoW level to 90 and have end-game characters who don't know a blasted thing about their classes.
I was in Sohr Kai the other day with three 'new' players on they all died on the horse boss when it was at 8%. Because I have leveled the "long way" and put my time in, I was able to keep myself (as my Paladin) healed, work the mechanics and still win the fight. You won't get that if people are skipping levels more than they already do through FATE grinding (which teaches one nothing about their class).

Go ahead, put in a real-money shop and just like when Destiny introduced level boosts for money, I'll take MY money elsewhere. Dont ruin a great game by listening to the whiners- if they're going to whine about it being "too hard" then I dont want them here!
