Except they don't come back with the event. I know many people including myself were waiting until the last stage of the event in hopes the trees would be purchasable from the vendor and they were not.

But they won't, though. SE hasn't had any event furnishings available for re-purchase, not even fixtures like the Bombard Lantern or Eerie Wallpaper that get destroyed if you replace them. If the event furnishings were available for purchase at the following year's event, the vast majority wouldn't be complaining about this issue.
Only the items that were untradeable get sold later on the mogstation. The trees in question are not only tradeable, but also market board sellable. It's like the Paramour Barding from the Valentines 2015 event never came back (in game or on Mogstation) because it is also tradeable and sellable.
It's probably because of the whole mess with the Eternity Rings where people were selling them in game for gil that they don't now sell anything on the mogstation that is tradeable.
That issue was already addressed. All they have to do is add the Market Prohibited/Untradeable tag to them just like they did when they added all the dyes - that way said person can buy as many as they want for their house, but cannot sell or trade them.
No, it should be put in the mogstation. Why? Because I paid for the game subscription when the Cherry Tree event was around, so that I could get a Cherry tree. People that weren't around back then didn't pay for the sub, so why should they get them item that I had to pay for?
Of course, I don't really think like that and I don't care if they mogstation the item or not. But the point I'm trying to make is that you are not entitled to a limited item just because you pay a sub now, when you didn't pay for a sub back then. That's why it's limited and that's why some people think it should stay that way :)
Put it on the Mog Station. I'd rather SE earned money from it and cycled it back into making the game great, than leaving it as this limited item that's in high demand but will never be given more supply. It's just a waste of assets. Even if it was $1 a tree on the Mog Station, SE would be making a pretty penny.
I would absolutely not be okay with items like this being put on the mogstation. It would be unfair to make them untradable, but it would basically be SE-condoned RMT to allow them to be.
The best option would be to either
A. make them available every year during the event, which would keep matketboard prices lucrative but reasonable, since if they're ridiculous the buyers could just wait for the next time the event rolled around.
or
B. Add them to the Calamity Salvager like the old Christmas gear and, which would keep the prices lower due to a constant, infinite supply being available.
The goal needs to be finding ways to keep these items available in a way that moves the game's economy rather than circumvents it.
I don 'to see why it shouldn't be put on mogstation, other seasonal event items do after a year. If they put these in too, it wouldn't really be anything new, and the price range for old seasonal stuff is typically a bit lower than non-seasonal items.
IMO the failure is they changed it to market sellable after the event.
That's how much the current housing items in the cash shop are. I agree it's too much, but if you ask for them to go on the cash shop then know it's not likely going to be in a price range you deem reasonable.
Those function differently and are bound to your character. I know they already have items in the cash shop already for housing which they seem to be testing the waters with. They don't want people buying/selling the cash shop items in game and that's going to be a mess with two different items (if they change the cash shop version id/bind it) that are the same.
That's not a failure, it's an opportunity. If people purchase several event items either to speculate or because they feel that in future they will want/need them, and then subsequently it becomes a sell-able item, so be it. Sure people can sell them at a good profit, but that's the ups and downs of the market. The same item may never become sell-able, so active speculation is risky, as it should be.
Doubtful that they'll add them in-game again, considering their monetary value. It would piss people who paid 20,000,000 gil per to have the trees. Square is cautious to even make a single change to the glamour system (they said that people still make 2,000 or so gil off of each individual 1-5 ranks and don't want to ruin that for them), so something so expensive would be almost out of the question.
That said, a bind-on-acquire version of such via the Mog Station may be viable. Perhaps even a raid drop in the future to provide a small influx to the market board. Both seem plausible to me.
If you paid 20m for a single tree that's your own fault, and also I have like 6 trees for you if you wanna waste that much gil on a tree.
If I were a dev I would put them back into the game for like 3 kupo nuts or put them on mog station for like 2.99 just because of that. Then just sit back and watch.
As much as I disagree with his reason to not re-implement the trees, he did say trees, not that someone paid 20m for single tree. Going by Balmung pricing, that's be 1m short of 6 trees.
As for how they should re-implement the trees, they should just bring them back during each Little Ladies Day event, as that's when they initially were obtained.
Pretty sure they've done this before though with the usagi kabuto and the dream outfit from the first Christmas event if I remember correctly. Editing the cash shop version so that it can't be sold or traded while leaving the original version as is seems to be how they address that issue. If they added the trees I'd assume they'd do the same there.
They have before, but it's been quite awhile since they've had items like that. At this point the current glamour gear is all bound. I'm curious what all the people vying for it to go onto the cash shop would deem too expensive, because I can't see it anywhere near the $1-3 people seem to be suggesting. They know the trees are popular and housing is limited, so sales are going to be limited. That leaves them with gouging the price to get the most out of those limited sales.
Based on their history of selling old event items on a cheaper price scale than original cash shop only items, and the current pricing of housing items, and taking into consideration the popularity of these trees (because you know they're going to cash in where they can) I'd say the price would more likely be around $8 to $12 usd, probably on the higher end. I could be wrong, but it's what I'd expect anyways.
I'm not necessarily advocating that they put it on the cash shop as much as accepting that it's the most likely place it'll go, given the way they've handled event items in the past. If they do surprise us and add the trees back into the game I'd be thrilled, but putting them on the cash shop would serve to make them more widely available while not totally crashing the market, and at the same time it would put a real world (gameplay/time-based) value on the trees as being less than what they're selling for on many servers as most players could more easily spend $12 than farm up 10m+ Gil on a single tree, which could benefit SE pretty well considering what future housing wards and options might look like as well as players having the option to use multiple trees per yard.
Of course, putting the trees back in game for the duration of the event would have the same effect of bringing the mb prices down to a more reasonable amount too though. I'd honestly prefer if they did that. I just don't see it as likely to happen.
You know I have some trees already but would like to see these added back into the game again or the cash shop as a last resort.
It is kinda sad really, I hop back into Rift on occasion and every time I head back there , they have added many additions of housing items available both from in game OR their "credit store" especially building blocks, countless lighting effects , water effects entire new dimensions O.o sheesh....
How in the world can se NOT add this back in by now, do they require our first born? We are talking about an item that already exists ...ONE item lol smh.
There are some things about ffxiv I like , that's why I still pay to be here! But man oh man they have some odd backwards thinking when it comes to things like this.
With holding a virtual tree....a tree!!! not legendary raid gear, we are asking for a tree!!...I am sorry but it just makes the decision makers look really really silly after this long.
I 100% Support the bring back the Eastern cherry trees.
They might make an interesting garden cross for seeds. Could even use the coloured pomace to get different coloured petals.
The trouble with adding these to the mogstation is that the tradeable ones actually took a bit of effort to acquire. Making them purchasable in that way would invalidate some of the effort people went to to actually acquire them.
It's like this Yokai event. I guarantee you next year some players will be begging for the Yokai minions, weapons and mounts to be on sale in the Mogstation. Obtaining all that in game is actually a LOT of work though. The second mount is effectively a mini relic grind in terms of effort needed. There are some event rewards that simply should never be available again or it invalidates the effort some players went to in order to acquire them.
If you really badly want a cherry tree then buy one for the millions that players are selling them for. It's not like they're completely unobtainable now. You CAN get them. Work to save up gil and buy one.
Spoken like someone who has half a dozen in their yard already. If people who worked for them are salty about the idea of SE selling them for cash then make the ones sold via Mogstation untradeable or re-add the method of obtaining the trees back to the game every couple months. Suggesting that people just suck it up and buy them is horrible advice, especially when the prices are gouged beyond belief. There are currently four trees for sale on my server, Lamia. Two for 20mil each, one for 25, and one guy who has clearly found some good drugs is asking 50mil. Those prices are beyond ridiculous and something that the average player would never purchase.
I dont think one can argue that SE is above putting past event items into the cash shop as is evident by the Lightning and Snow costumes that one can shell out cash for as we speak. I worked for the Lightning costume back when it was a live event yet right now someone who started playing yesterday can drop a few bucks for the set.
I would love for these to be available again. I was not here when they were available through an event?
I don't personally care whether they put it in the mog station (making it untradable) or adding it through a "recurring event" as long as it becomes available again as its one of the prettier trees that people want ^^
Run and fetch quest = no effort, just time
Yes the prices can be out right disgusting, remember free item that could be obtained in about 6-7 mins per tree
But paying real money for a tree is ok ? I'm lost there. '-'
I would say "crafting, gardening (especially this one), beast tribes or gold saucer reward", but clearly not the mogstation.
edit : bah, anyway, they added the bucket with the watermelon, so it will happen.
