It's not even about clipping. Have you seen some of the current longer hairstyles move? It's, uh...looking really really awkward. I suppose it works with caster animations, buuut...yeah.

That's what I really don't like about it. That it looks like a parody. If they wanted to make an actual pompadour style, that would be cool, but it should look more like:

Instead of that, we get this over-exaggerated caricature that's just parodying the style. :(
(It's sort of like when we got the afro, but they made it look more like a clown wig instead. I don't like that one either.)
But oh well, at least the other new styles look nice.
I bet that very first one will be bought with MGP from the Gold Saucer... Praying I'm not wrong!
waiting to see male roe/highlander Johnny Bravo glamours soon after patch hits

I'm familiar with the caricature depiction in a lot of manga and anime, and you're undoubtedly right that that's where this comes from. In a work who's depictions involve a lot of caricature (as these manga and anime often do) it can work. I just don't think it fits well within the artistic style of this game, where character proportions and facial features are going for a more realistic look (despite the fantasy elements tacked on). Here, I think a more realistic depiction would have fit better with the game's overall aesthetic.

I noticed in the patch notes it mentions that they are using hairstyles from the competition...
I am hoping there will be more than shown and they are adding more that where runners up.
The pompadour has jiggle physics and I'm so hyped *o*
i really hope its unisex tho. '3';;;
Are we finally getting the mini dragon minion!?
The wyvern minion would have to be from The Final Steps of Faith, or more likely, from the Moogle Beast Tribe vendor.
the fourth pic with the hyur that hairstyle looks like seven's hair from type zero just like we got cinque's hair with the braids
Hmmm I am abit disappointed...

Still waiting...
If you read in the patch notes these are ALL Hairstyles from the old hairstyle competition.(it even says so under the pictures :P) It seems they listened to the community to implement them all of them. (albeit over time). Really happy :D cant wait to see mine if they do all of them. (was a finalist myself)
IKR?! that one reminds me of weiss's hairstyle from rwby honestly the two are very similar if not exactly alike with the exception of the bangs in the front this ponytail they are parted weiss's hair isn't though i don't even care for that ponytail give us the true winner
I'm really getting tired of the gender neutral hairstyles, tbh. We're all entitled to our opinions and here is mine.
So many people complained about wanting gender neutral EVERYTHING (okay Tumblr sjw's). The the hairstyles we keep getting are mainly pushed towards men. A lot of the recent ones have had a mix flair of feminine and masculine appeal to it. As a female irl, I want a hairstyle for females that leans towards a feminine appeal all the way, no mixed in masculinity feel to it.
I'd personally love longer female hairstyles, with volume and waves to it. As any other games have.
While SE has catered to the ones wanting gender neutral everything, it seems they have forgotten some people like the normal things. I.e., feminine hairstyles for females, masculine ones for men.
And THEN gender neutral as well.
Cater to EVERYONE.
I'd think a better way to cater to everyone would be to have feminine hairstyles, masculine hairstyles, and gender neutral hairstyles, but allow characters of either gender to use any of them.
The way you described would have one of two effects:
1) It would turn into feminine styles for females and gender neutral styles for everyone, and that's it. As for males, well, they can use the gender neutral ones after all.
or
2) There's feminine styles for females and a random sampling of gender neutral styles for everyone, along with a different random sampling of gender neutral styles that are arbitrarily locked to males only.
The real problem is that there is no non-arbitrary distinction between masculine and gender neutral styles. (Even the distinction between feminine and gender neutral styles is fairly limited.)
I also wish they'd get rid of the race-specific limitations on hairstyles as well. For instance, my favorite hairstyle in the game is for male Au Ra (their long ponytail one), and I'd love to use it on my male Miqo'te.
Yup..I won't be using any of these hair styles either. People been asking for long hair for THREE years. There is ONE long hair style...and it has that god awful headband.
Where is hair like Icehearts..or even that Valkyrie boss at the end of amdapor hard dungeon? Why is everything super short now...come on. At least have one long one for every 10 shorts ones :/
My IRL hair still isn't in the game, tail bone length wavy hair with a lot of volume...like a mermaids hair. Where is that? I agree with MyaValentine, cater to everyone and at least try to add some long ones..ugh.
If it's not Lightning hair it's the long hair I am sporting now.
Would prefer some waist long hair myself. Too many short hairstyles IMO.
I want more feminin hair too. I dont mind unlocking ANY kind of hair to any character but I want them to be for woman or men, not gender neutral everytime...
I'm pretty sure this all comes down to them feeling they can deliver equally to both genders with less effort, and more importantly, the fact that they hate longer hairstyles and the problems that it causes with armours. I don't recall anyone screaming for gender-neutral hairstyles and just as well because as you say, we're not starved for them.
