They would though, people already level up multiple characters (each with their own FC) so they can get multiple FC houses and give each the same short tag (so they can brag about it?). I used to think that was a lot of hassle, but I've since realised it's really not since you only need to level *1* character to 50 (to initially buy each house). After that the FC is "transferred" to a level 1 alt and then that person would leave and start a new FC to rank that up to rank 6 and repeat.

Sure getting rank 6 takes some effort, but for someone who actively plays, that's happening in the background with a lot of things they do and I'm sure there's things you can do to accelerate it (focus on company hand ins or GC levequests perhaps?). If you have a few people in the same group who do this then it'd be even faster to level them up (although then obviously it's not a single person owning the houses, but an FC owning multiple houses if that makes any difference?).

I do appreciate what you're saying, but when a system lets people do something, you can bet people will do it, especially since it's not against any rules. SE let's us have 8 separate characters per server on the normal account and if they only wanted us to be a single character, they'd only let us have 1 per account.

We have tons of housing as I'm sure other small severs do as well. If you don't want to spend money you can also make a new character to mess around with the house features. A small is only about 1M on our server so it doesn't take long to get with all the money you get from the main storyline.

I have friends that have been busting their butts to save money for a house and have flat out said if they don't get one they'll walk. Not good advertising.

I agree, its terrible advertising on SE's part.

Also Balmung is the worst server to join if you want a house lol!

Housing has evolved over the last few decades, from a simple place to store items, to a very personal reflection of personality. One of the mmo's ive been involved with for more that 15 years evolved housing into a major Virtual Store pay to play gold mine. Not only can you earn houses via questing, membership, and traditional means, you can also purchase one from a vast array of models and landscapes. In addition to this, you can also build anything your heart desires, piece by piece, block by block with no restrictions on item limits.

Crafting and non "hack and slash" gamers have entrenched themselves and demanded this niche be accepted as viable and legitimate. And from this movement, new $€£¥ has surfaced. Square Enix has a solid product, 15 Million strong and growing. But for those of us who like to sheath ours blades and hop out of the grind, it would be nice to putter around the homestead, with endless possibilities at our calloused fingertips.

I'm fairly certain the apartments are the fix.

The apartments will help for sure, but only if they have all the same amenities as houses... stables... gardens ( for cross breeding, not stupid glamour flower pots we are getting )

same amount of NPCs for every size house / apartment as well would cut down on the viciousness of the market

Some of the points I've seen in this thread:

• "Other MMOs have unlimited instanced housing, why can't FFXIV?"
  • I don't work at SQEX so I don't know for sure, but I've heard that FFXIV's servers use a data saving model that cannot easily support this. Changing the data saving model is non-trivial. Even if it doesn't require a complete server rewrite (yes, that's a very real possibility) changing it affects every part of the servers. At best, this is going to take a lot of time to do and test properly. At worst, it will it will require a complete server rewrite. Either way, that's a lot of time and money that could be spent elsewhere, so in order to get SQEX to spend the time/money to improve housing it has to be proven (to them) that spending the money to improve housing would make them more money (over a time period that they've set) than spending said time/money elsewhere.
• Apartments will fix the issue.
  • No, they won't. Not only are apartments apparently going to be limited in quantity, but based on the info we have now they also don't come with a Yard, which is currently an absolute requirement for real gardening. Flower pots aren't a replacement for actual gardens, they're only a nice addition to the game.

Now, that said, while I do hope that SQEX can see fit to implement unlimited instanced housing, that's something of a long-term solution even if they do decide to do it. In the meantime, they can and should implement a way to securely trade plots between players and FCs (probably similar to a market board for housing). While this wouldn't eliminate the problem that there isn't enough housing, it would at least limit or remove peoples' ability to scam players by taking their money and not demolishing the house or transferring the FC.

And before someone says it: No, FFXIV isn't a real-estate simulator. That still won't stop people from flipping houses on the 7th, nor will it stop people from wanting to sell their house rather than just abandoning it when they hop servers, or wanting to buy a house down the road, or whatever.

Housing is end game for a lot of crafters and gatherers.

I don't raid..

Crafting & gathering is what I enjoy in the game. Making gil. I want a house lol.

Also housing is a necessity for FCs ( airships ). SE screwed the pooch when they added personal housing.

I'm happy to report that 6 years in the future, SE has finally listened to the players' concerns and fixed the supply issue.

On my server, which is one of the higher population servers, there are still plenty of apartments available. And that is housing. Maybe it is 90% of housing (no gardening, no exterior). But it is there.

Gardening results can be purchased on the market board... IF someone is selling them. The problem with garden exclusives is that if the people who can grow and list them don't... then the people who can't, cannot obtain them.

At the very least, SE needs to add an indoor garden box that has multiple slots so apartment owners can crossbreed in their apartments. Even if its only 2-4 slots, it would at least give apartment owners the agency to get these thing through their own efforts instead of having to rely on others and spending gil (sometimes significant amounts).
