the game feels so empty these days

ok let me understand one thing

for years this forum had said that the FFXIV playerbase is so bad that cant kill a fly or avoid a simple red circle....somewhat i can agree with that sentiment....however , the next day the forum say that the whole playerbase is gone to play : DARK SOUL III ....im confused....

because the pic says it all. who cares about difficulty when you can cross-dress!

I wish there was more than 2 dungeons in the expert roulette. When it was 3 it at least was more interesting.

The lack of content is really starting to sting, and I usually hate bad mouthing this game. Once you are capped you might as well logoff because unless you do savage with a great static and enjoy wiping for hours, there is nothing left to do once lore is capped out. For the casual player (there are many) the logoff button is even more enticing until reset...

Once I cap I literally struggle to find goals for myself to do (lvl some alt jobs, mine, sell stuff, ventures) but even still that will only get me a few more hours... of an entire week left waiting for reset.

And you wonder why the gil spammer spam is so bad? because there is no one else there to talk to begin with.

A word of caution:

Whatever people say is empty/lacking/they want to do but no one's doing it just might end up attached to the next relic step. SE's all about maintaining that bottom line. This is less a criticism of them, and more of a statement based on observation.

Hunts imbalanced instance queues? Nexus step.
Alexander Gordias getting old, Heavensward areas/fates empty? First steps of the Anima relic.
"Make the towers relevant again!": Current Anima relic step.

I'm wholly convinced now that with Midas starting to age, Void Ark approaching part 2, and the Diadem being quite dead, those 3 will be involved in the next, grindy relic step (grindy because with the lower traffic of a catch up patch, people are going to need something to be kept active and busy.)

So be careful what you wish for.

Some might hate me for what i'm gonna say...

But i just logged into a private server of XI. it has the vanilla settings, No speed, no exp boost, no starter gil etc etc.
Just to get that old feeling back when i was playing back in the day. And do i miss so many things that such an old game has towards this.

Leveling
Level 1-10 Was solo. After that it was party all the way for most classes, It was always fun and people actually talked. imagine that.
The amount of dead silence parties i have now a days is just a big turn off. *Dungeon starts* Hello!, *We kill the last boss* GG ty for the run.

Thats it! And we are stuck with mindless dungeons always the same. And even though it is the same in XI we don't run dungeons but we kill mobs, it is just so much more satisfying than to re-run old dungeons a thousand times.

Open world content
What do we have now? Hunts? i mean come on. People claim we shouln't have Notorious monsters cause that would cause hatred/harassement.
Have you ever seen the amount of people doing that with hunts? and trust me, most NMs in XI were not that overcamped and i rarely saw people speak a ill-word.
So yeah, Why don't we have notorious monsters?

My god the thrill i had when i was leveling in La Theine(In XI) And all of the sudden my screen started to shake and i kid you not,
i was like what the f' is going on?! and i turned around to meet a giant NM wandering around. I have never had that in XIV yet.

There were so many NMs you could make money off em, you could farm them for items, RARE/EX items as well as sellable ones. This is something i really miss from XI.

Divine Might

Just as an example Divine might was a very hard battle when it first came out. And my god did people struggle with this battle!
And i mean days! countless days, of wiping->redoing etc. And did people moan like they do now? Hell no! We talked about what went wrong and re-did it!
I can't even remember we had the luxory the complain on the forums about stupid crap like that!

The Community& Quest

Pff... where do i even begin...
Rarely i see people help each other for free now a days. It always need to be a profit for them.
Personally, i always got a kick out of helping people on my SMN.(Yes a real SMN Class SHOTS ARE FIRED!!)
Lets for an example pick the AF quests in XI. They did not take 5 minutes to complete i can guarantee you that.

Long missions, great story. And hard. you will need help from other people, explore maps to find the treasure with your relic inside.
That is all lacking in this game. The community in this game to me, is a joke. I don't go by a week without atleast a few people having an arguement of the stupidest of shit in the chat.
People selling things that imho should not be sold but given away(Like clears on old content) Why does everyone feels the need to exploit from others?

I've having a blast right now in XI. And even on a private server with such a small community of maybe 200 people i can already tell you, It feels like home. It feels like the old day with the people who share that mindset.


All in all, the devs of XIV have stated to not add alot of stuff that old fans from XI loved and would've loved to see back in this game, But their reasons are simply false and not true.

Maybe they feel like NMs would've made to many harassment issues, but in reality, the hunts that they added. They add so much more harassment on a daily basis.
And like i said, i have not even seen that with NMs.

You have multiple HNMs linkshells hunting a god knows what kind of absurd repop times. Someone claimed, they watched to see if they didn't lose and then went off.

The point i'm trying to make. You always had plenty to do in XI and it wasn't a instant gratification like most people want it to be now a days.

Game populations look fine to me, but that's perhaps due to my being from Balmung. DS3 is a likely cause of people leaving, but once the mass majority have finished the game they will return.

It's kinda boring sometimes when I try to qeue for something and it takes like 10+ minutes.

I am actually enjoying the new Ratchet and Clank game and also The Division.
Queue times for stuff seems to take way longer then it used to, is it because less players??

People have gotten all their stuff from Midas normal now for their mains at least or close to.
New relic step not very time consuming.
They killed off Sephirot EX with the lore weapon/new relic. Only mount left and alt weapons.
All that is left really is capping every week to get more lore gear and void ark weekly for the materia/CT weekly if you want more oils.

Unless you are trying to gear an alt in i220/anima relic, raid or you are very behind/just started playing there really isn't much to do.

PvP I guess?

It sucks for PvPers as well because it's almost impossible to play Frontline right now since the Feast took all the players away, and the Feast sucks.

There are a lot of factors into what makes people perceive a server is empty, and one that was brought up to me is where you spend your time most. If you hang out where it's busy regularly, the server isn't going to seem empty to you. If you prefer to wander the wilderness and pick flowers... yeah, it's probably going to feel empty because I can't remember a time ever where a non-city map was busy (except Mor Dhona but that's like, half and half) simply because there are no market boards, summoning bells, or anything like that out in the wilderness. If you spend more time where you know people are concentrated, you're going to eventually stop perceiving the server as empty, because really the populations are just lumped into certain areas, instead of all spread out.

It was similar to how we had someone in our RP community commenting about how dead Siren is, and we all kind of laughed about it because while we're not Balmung sized, people actively play, and it turns out the player in question just chose to spend all of their time around/in their house so that affected their perception since, generally in housing wards, you rarely interact with others.

Diabolos has been a little quieter these days. We're nearing the last third of patch 3.2, so that's really about normal, I think. Throw in Dark Souls 3, the impending end-of-semester for much of the game's active college-attending playerbase, and it's not too surprising that there'd be a bit of a downturn.

Things are still pretty active, though, and far more so than they were during 3.0/3.1.

I'm on Mateus, the smallest server and last nigh at around 1:00 AM we had enough people to kill Svara...so there was a Coerthas farm party. If you're lonely come to Mateus! We still have open housing slots too xD But it never feels dead to me :o

On Ragnarok its full, I did alot of FATES the past week and the server log in has a queue after 5 PM.

Odin has a login queue regularly and you can see huge crowds of people when hunting or in Idyllshire/Limsa. Daily quest hubs in HW areas have a few people there at any point in time and some fate groups / pony farms pop up every now and then. Newbs are happily questing away across Eorzea. Queue times are pretty much the same as always. It's not as crowded as it is after a major patch but those times are not the norm anyway, even though it might seem so for someone who regularly unsubs.

Edit. In fact I just logged in a moment ago and there was a queue of 12 people.

Plus there's always a queue when I log in. Though it does feel a little less populated to me, but that might as well be because the people ony my friend list and in my fc don't seem to play too much lately.

I actually hit a queue when logging in on Hyperion Saturday, first time I've hit a queue in awhile. I definitely haven't noticed much lack of activity, but also I'm aware the Hyperion is not one of the smaller servers.

Played around 39 games since friday until today. I can't complain even with 2h-3h of queue.

But yeah, I agree, Feast is a waste of time and the people with I play Frontline hate it aswell.

Please SE, Frontline deserve more love.

I burned myself out after um which relic quest was before zeta pre nerf with the 2000 light. I finished that part in less then a week, ever since that i've only logged on for the daily / to cap for the week and for my raid group. I would be on more to do the new relic quest but after 60 fates for one wind item thingy.
I didnt like the drop rate and gave up the new glamor relic. I didnt want to burn myself trying to get those 3 elements in how many, 7 zones or less for 60 fates avg. The game design team didnt create the content in mind that FF14 might not be the 1st mmo grind fest game. As I jump from each mmo, I find myself playing less and less as the grind is the same.
PPl complain that i should just quit, I say why? I just slow my progression/play time and i'm fine. ppl love to complain so much in the internet, its quite funny.
