Your genre savvy is showing. Yeah we know that on a meta level we basically have plot armor +5, but if you look at the spear of light and what it does in Thordan EX (it inflicts an infirmity debuff that makes you literally unable to heal whoever is hit with it until it wears off) it's actually pretty plausible that Zephirin could have killed the WoL with that attack had Haurchefant not intervened.

I know he didn't have too, but he did anyway. Though I needed to go save the world anyhow so I'm sure there would be a work around at some point. He's still cool, I'm just saying things were never against our odds in those times not even if he refused.

Genre savvy? I don't take particular interest in genres to understand them to a T but thanks for the "compliment"? Maybe cheezy horror films but that's different. Anyways I wasn't talking about plot armor but the over abundance of things that should've killed us doesn't. If your mentioning Thordan EX I suppose it'd be fair to refer to T9 which we took a MegaFlare pointblank and survived it. The thing that began the new era when we got teleported back in time or whatever. I think thats more threatning imo honestly but it's hard to determine what will or not be considered a threat to the WoL. At this point, we've taken on just about anything alone or with someone. Estinien who had the shield thing when we were fighting Nidhogg, he kinda saved us since If I got hit with Nidhogs blast or w/e I would faint, and warp back to my particular spot. Its just hard to tell when we need saving. If I was going to be injured for a few seconds because of the light arrow, ehhh It still feels like he wasted his life taking an arrow for me. Plot armor +5 or not, WoL is pretty broken.

That looked more like Teraflare actually; we didn't see that till T13, but we technically didn't have physical form in T13 I don't think? The whole going inside Bahamut's crystal heart to defeat him thing was cool but makes that a bit confusing.

Er. Have you done Thordan EX and seen what a massive amount of damage the Spear does if it's not soaked correctly?

Nope. I suppose it wouldn't be fair if I commented on it since I never participated in it then, though if we're talking soak damage...I usually see the WoL as one person since I never happen to see my party members in cutscenes with me after battles, so its as if we ourselves completed the tasks. Not saying attacks like that wouldn't hurt a buttload but if the game keeps referring us as THE WoL then I just can't accept someone was there to take those hits with me. You know? Kinda the reason I don't find most stuff in this game threatening as of late and why I think Harry sacrificed himself for a great reason but it was unnecessary.

I cursed a lot of words when Hauchefant died.. I was so damn mad! Im the WoL and we just stand there!! I was a damn healer, I could have healed him but nope, I just stand there >.<

Well, of course the WoL is going to live. It's the player-controlled character. The WoL only seems indestructible to us because we know we're not going to die, otherwise the game would come to a very abrupt end. In game, while we're a mighty, peerless warrior, we're still human, and capable of being grievously hurt or killed, and it's only through a combination of luck, fighting ability and Hydaelyn's blessing that we've come as far as we have. And so that being the case, the spear likely would have killed us had it not been for Haurchefant. It's been emphasised on several occasions that we're powerful, but not invincible.

Narratively our characters cant take massive hits we don't see coming. Game mechanics has always taken into account that we are proactively defending against incoming attacks. It doesn't mean we couldn't have our throat slit while we sleep or an arrow to the eye that we didn't see coming would just make us tear up a little. That attack would have hit us unawares and unprepared to defend. Also the Sephirot battle directly references our 'gifted' allies from the Adventurer's Guild we call on for aid against primals.

I was almost certain the Aymeric made reference to the idea coming from him/being supported by him, despite the order of events having us check on supplies and talk with Haurchefant, then Aymeric...

Now I'm not really certain. I'll have to watch the cutscenes again to see what I'm probably I'm mis-remembering.

The eye was controling him. It was like Bilbo Baggins and the One Ring. Eventually, it wore down his defenses, just like it did the azure dragoons that came before him. My guess is, his azure armor being turned red was symbolic of the moment his will gave out. Then, it was simple for Nidhogg to compel him to pick up the second eye.

He shoulda changed his armor. The blood of Nidhogg likely made it easier for him to lose his willpower. Maybe the ghost of Haldrath can save him but we'll see.
