This request is right up there with wanting the moogle costume. It's a 'you had to be there' reward used as a promotion, in this case promoting a collaboration between Square and 7-11 (in Japan). You had to be there, shopping at a 7-11, in Japan. The only way that could get any more exclusive is if you had to have a birthday in either July or November to qualify. While I personally think the outfits would be cool to have, I'm fine with their exclusivity, just like I'm fine with the moogle costume's exclusivity (mind, I don't have the costume, I never bought the stream nor visited Fan Fest). I mean, if you're going to request this then why stop at just the outfit. Lets have the primal lottery earrings be available forever, too!...

It's not really a "you had to be there" when people literally don't have the option. Even if someone bought a plane ticket to Japan, they need a Japanese version of the game anyway. The fact is that this is limited to one section of the player base only. I'd agree with you if it was a case of "there was an event on at this month available to all players but I couldn't log in" but this completely blocks out anyone who isn't a Japanese player.

Technically you did. You just didn't have to physically be there. You DID have to, at the very least, buy into their streams making your attendance virtual instead of literal. You had to be there all the same.

This is a prime example of how much easier it is to run collaborations in Japan as opposed to the US. This also another example of Japanese exclusives in a multi-national game. Pokemon regularly, if not seasonally, runs special events where you can only get pokemon with certain moves/are shiny in locales that have no connection at all to games, much less pokemon. Like the train station pokemon event. Yes, they had pokemon being released through visits to specific train stations. Had to be there as these specific pokemon have never been released anywhere else since. I'm fine with this. It's not my game, I have no say in how they promote it. If that includes exclusive items from local collaborations then more power to them. I'm not going to flip tables over not getting a shot at it, that's just being selfish.

Look, I love maid outfits. I feel like part of my soul dies whenever I look at japanese-players screenshots with maid outfits. But guys, CHILL. We're going to get it. They already said that.

Again, completely different levels of severity. Having to buy into a stream while sitting at home and having to own a Japanese copy of FFXIV and also be physically located in Japan or have access to a 7/11 are completely different ball games.

"Looking into" something and saying we can definitely have it are also two different things. There's nothing wrong with letting SE know what we want as a player base. :)

You're sugarcoating the situation. It's a lot more entertaining to not portray our ravenous peers as though they're actually civilized. Let the vast majority of people froth at the mouth because they don't understand how things work. Others that actually do end it at letting them simply know that we want those goods are doing just that. Better to not include the foam into the party. It's obvious they want it, but it's also obvious no one likes them.

@Gilraen, I already stated I'm perfectly fine if they run some EU/NA exclusive events too. Even if it's virtual. The point is that we have no chance of getting something we really want right now, and I personally don't think that's fair. I respect your opinion of being fine with it but please respect ours and the fact some people really want this outfit.

@Welsper59 I'm just expressing my opinion here, I'll leave it as I want the outfit and that's that :p

I agree with you. We should show our love for maid outfits. But not spamming the foruns and spreading misinformation about SE actions (btw, I'm not talking about you, the community is doing that). There is a context behind these prizes, and people are ignoring it. It's not like SE is making this region-locked because she's mean and only care about japanese players. It's not like SE do not recognize that we want the maid outfit.
I just think that people need to CALM DOWN. Anyway, I hope that the promotion is a success and I can grab my maid outfit soon.

At first, SE didn't show any interest in adding the Lightning Strikes items to the cash shop. Apparently they wanted cross-over and special event items to be exclusive. They changed their stance due to overwhelming demand. (Not to mention it was a gray area considering their own precedent) Now we have two things happening at once. The first is that the english community showed an overwhelming demand for items that were locked to other regions. The second is that we're showing an overwhelming interest in a special promotion being held in Japan. See the common link here? Region locked exclusives isn't the best thing for the community as a whole. Not for SE, our region, or the others. Everyone should have some way to participate in these things even if the items are one time only.


(Unrelated but... I only care about this stuff because I buy the items for my significant other. )

Why isn't it in game yet or in our cash shop? Come on...

They should know better then to release something for somewhere else first when the game is available to more then one region -_-

I'd imagine they'll wait a while (months .... longer?) until these items will be in the cash shop.

A bit disappointing since I did want the Ifrit mask.

I think one of the (fan) reasonings why we could get the Korean/Chinese stuff was due to those items being made by the chinese devs there + the game being locked to those countries.

However, unlike Korea/China, EU/USA and JP can play with each other, so they specifically blocked the western players from this.

I look at things like this the same way that I look at pokemon events. In that there can be region exclusive events, but I would want an event to come to me too. (come on, we had a fan fest in London, we can't have a promotional event?). Pokemon ties its UK events to GAME, there's no reason why they couldn't do that, and do a deal with gamestop in America (I know that is completely different than 7-11, but these companies are used to these kinds of events)

To further rub it in, I just saw a person wearing the JP only butler in my server (NA) in a way it was nice, since I was able to use the Try On the gear on my character ... but yeah.

Tbh, the detail in the maid outfit is stunning. It looks much better than the Valentine's Day maid-like set, especially the bow.

I pay 15$ a month for the content like everyone else, why shouldn't I be allowed access to this? There's this strange bit of nationalism involved with Japanese companies, another example is Dark Souls 3. It's out in Japan and will be available on steam in a week, I imagine the only reason we don't have it at the moment for digital download is that sense of nationalism. I don't really understand why a company would limit itself like that.

America does the dark souls thing too, I wouldn't get upset about it. Also Japanese is the native language, and localisation takes time, be thankful that xiv localisation happens at the same time as the native version

There should be a bigger emphasis on America doing that all the time and in other forms of trade or media. American movies, for example, are super popular in foreign countries, yet they don't see that until months later sometimes. Games made domestically don't get released worldwide simultaneously as well usually, as was stated.

To be fair though, the Souls series has reached a rather huge fanbase to make it essentially a AAA title ever since Dark Souls, so a simultaneous worldwide release expectation really isn't hard to justify people complaining about. I'm just going on a tangent here. The underlying point is that we tend to only look at what's wronging us, and how inhumane or unfair it is to us... not so much about how it affects anyone else but "me" though, if the tables were turned and it was other people who didn't get something we did. It's very funny to see it happen like clockwork.

You know I won't lie, I would've loved to obtain this. I really love the idea of battlemaids and such but my valentione outfit doesn't really fit that well to do a glamour: feels so weird and not elegant at all.. But this really looks awesome...such a shame it's locked.

If it ever gets released somehow I might give it a look. Yes, I'd be fine with mogstation too. At least it's a nice outfit to look for and I would definitely take it just to be a battlemaid.

It's bad enough their cash shop items are so expensive, or that they even have a cash shop in the first place, but come on people. "Hur it's just pixels" is not an argument. You start letting them get away with stuff like this an the Chinese dress, and it will become more commonplace. I don't give them monthly money just to see people in another region reap the rewards.

I'm not overly fussed about the items on the Chinese version since they have a modified version of the game and play on their own servers. However, JP and NA accounts are blended together on the same server, and so it does seem to come off a bit biased when you are allowing one playerbase to get special items and not the other 3.

They were "looking into" (and as good as promised) an add-on system for FFXIV too. Over 2 years later not only has it not appeared but they've as good as said that it now won't happen. Just like when Yoshi promised to not introduce region locked items, don't actually rely on what is said during promotional releases (like Live Letter). It's better to consider them as a "brainstorming" event as not everything mentioned comes to fruition.

i will be blunt, make a promotional event region locked in a worldwide game is simply unfair, about the glamour or anything else here.... the simple fact to put one part of the community into a priviliege position is not a good thing.

if they start to make special outfit for one region they must do it for every region... the point there is not getting the glamour or something else, but to offer a fair treatement for everyone. because in the end, we can say that the one complaining are entitled or whatever, the trouble remain, some region did get right to some promotional offer that we player from other country don't have the right to have...

but that a bit like the fact that the live letter are still not subbed like while the V1 even a few month later, we need to pass by the forum and often wait a few week before have a decent translation. a lot of information are.... ignored and it's like the non japanese don't have the right to be part of the party, we can only look.... and don't give me the classical it will take too much time, they have team for this in them society for all the other event like FF15 stuff, but well i guess non asian player are simply second grade citizen into FF14.

Exactly.
It's not fair if people are playing the same game, paying the same amount, yet one group of people gets access to certain things first while the other has to wait an indefinite amount of time. If they wanted to do the 7-11 promotion, they should have planned something for the other regions as well and made it so that everyone has a chance at the items at the same time.
