A "serious" thread about whining for stupid things like Viera? Yes, makes much more sense than wanting more thorough character customization for the races we have.
That's what you got from this topic? Really? For those who played 1.X, their characters were changed for 2.X forward, the actual shape and stature of the characters changed (some more than others ). It's not about having a bigger bum, it's about restoring what was lost, and restoring some sense to the character models. Given how much of this game comes down to aesthetics and how beautiful the game, world and characters are, the limitations on character models and their interaction with gear is a glaring issue.
As someone pointed out earlier, more customization of our existing characters should come ahead of introducing another player race.
Were the butts really so different in 1.0?
Or is it just nostalgia, along with the different lighting and graphics that the game uses now? For me, butts is something I rarely notice/look at...and I'd cringe if I saw some Nicki Minaj butts running around Eorzea...lmao.
That thread was equally as stupid. Reasoning was given as to why it wast a good idea. This issue has also had a reason why. Heaven forbid there is logical reasoning why but no, if people speak, cry and moan loud enough surely the developers will hear! There are also a lot more customisation options that would be more feasible then having a bigger bum.
No I actually got a different idea about the topic.. until a picture of a scantly clad au ra was pictured below the breasts pretty much says what they want. This bum is too small! The responses in this thread. We need bigger bums. It says it all really.
I think more people would be up for another race. Isn't that why Au Ra were introduced? Y'know for more customisation. Isn't this way all the new hairstyles, the various face paints we have are for more customisation? Isn't this also why they are introducing new glamour armours?
The entire stance, and angle of the Miqo'te female has changed as has her physique. It looks like someone carved their rear ends from them, although in general it looks like their physique has become less feminine. I believe that there were changes to other races as well coming from 1.x to 2.x.
Character customization goes beyond hair color make-up and clothing, but you sound like you've already made up your mind to dismiss player concerns in this matter, so I really see no point in trying to persuade you otherwise.
From an anatomical perspective... our butts should be large and lifted. We run, lift heavy weapons, run in armor, jump hundreds of feet....
We should have some severely toned and shaped muscles on our rear ends.
It would appear they need to schedule another appearance, the masses are not calmed... :)
replying here since I hit posting limits....lol
Squeaky wheel gets the oil... ;)
Of course this is just one of several things on the list of things that need improvement, and it's probably not top of the list for me either, but it's on the list.
Does anyone know of a game that has actually changed base models 3+ years after the fact? I mean, I suppose more sliders could always be added, but I personally don't know of any games that have done that (granted my game range is small - 4-5 MMOs)
I really do hope they fix the flat butts on all characters. They said something like they had to give all races the same butt model for gear purposes, why could't they give us all normal sized butts? Did they really think giving everyone a Lalafel butt was going to be OK? O.o gross.

I don't want to be the one to give the bad news, but after all this time and seeing how a dev already gave an answer before, I doubt they will do anything about it now seeing that if they did make visual adjustments, the amount of man power and editing for all existing gear would be a tremendous load on them that could be placed elsewhere in more important areas. But I know this is important to some of you people here, but just stating a view from another perspective.
Screw this talk over butts, a lot of people in real life have their butts looking like this. I want another race and preferably one with more sexual dismorphia, like short guys to tall girls. That would be interesting, at least for me.
Sad too say but adding a slider to adjust character rear sizes is unlikely to happen during Heavensward. Its not a high priority for the Dev's, if they were to added such a slider it would most likely come with the next expansion. This thread also makes me wonder how many players are just spending time looking at that their characters butts rather then playing the game.
I personally can't say I've met someone who's butt is non-existent, but maybe I just haven't met enough people. As for sexual dimorphism, don't we already have this with the Au Ra? Of course it's the opposite case where the men are far larger than women, but hey it's there. I'd rather see more options for existing races myself, FFXIV is really lacking in the character customization section (apart from hairstyles), makes up for it glamour wise though.
I really wonder if they had actually changed the shape of miqo'te at all, or if it was all just in the lighting/game engine of 1.0. Many things looked different only due to the shading effect the game had (or whatever the technical term is, forgive me D: ).
The picture of the dancing miqo, they all look pretty standard, as does the one just standing on the end. Does anyone have any pictures of them just standing still from the side? The regular shots that show up in these threads are always from creeper angles which will generally make things look a bit different.
So I tried to get my own. ;) Pardon the funky quality, but it does highlight the fact that angles and lighting can do a number on one's ass.

Welp, after wasting even MORE time....I've come to the conclusion that it was more than likely just the shading from the old engine and miqo'te from 1.0 didn't have magical asses.

Keep in mind that once again, lighting and other factors (distance to camera, exact angles, miqo'te size (I did not make mine petite!) will come into play here and it is impossible to compare 1.0 and ARR in a perfect way.
Screw it. I didn't care about the issue at all, but if people are that interested that we have an OP with 50 likes at this point, I'll throw my hat into the mix too...
...Provided we also get a slider to make junk look bigger. I'm all for equality, you see.
Aside from the butts, it appears as if females back in 1.0 had a more hour glass figure compared to now. Ironically, Au Ra males now have that figure, if not more pronounced.
Here's the most common image I've seen for it when it was a "big" story on gaming sites.

The stance play a huge part of it, I hate 2.0 stance so much.
This picture is always touted as "proof" of the drastic difference, but while the poses are similiar, they're not the same distance, not quiiite the same angle, etc. And with our sad little ares, those things DO make a big difference. From my own experiments and searching, I wasn't able to find that big of a difference between the two. I had actually mentioned this picture in my original comment, but it got deleted in all the edits D:
I could keep posting 1.0 pictures, but I think people already have their minds set one way or the other regarding how much better it was in 1.0 :p
Nooooow with all that said, I would absolutely LOVE to have sliders. That first side shot of my miqo is disgusting. lol. They do need some help, but I just don't see them adding the option. Fingers crossed I'm wrong ;)
It helped that lighting, overall, was way better in 1.0 than 2.0 as well. That's another concession we had to make to be able to get it to run on more PCs. Still, hopefully we'll see improvements to lighting one day, maybe in 4.0? I can dream.
Yup, light (and graphics) were pretty good back then.

You can even see a slight bulge wearing a subligar. Now men are simply ken dolls
I'm not above saying I'm wrong, but I do like a little proof.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...pe_of_miqotes/ Actually found this myself. So there was a slight change to a silhouette it seems. Still not as massive as people make it out to be. :P
But yes, ALL Of those things I mentioned before still make a huge difference in how things appear. If you looked at my side by side pictures, the difference is negligible.
I looked for more pictures but surprisingly enough, there were few of the player race's rears from my quick Google search (I guess I'll be able to see for myself if this is ever finished and made public). The posture definitely plays a part though, as seen with the Au Ra and their rear looking a little less flat. I do wish we had more natural /cposes, and ones that were permanent rather than being something your character switches to after a few seconds, but that's a different complaint. The characters are definitely flat though, along with male player characters having very minimal bulge, but that just might bump up the age rating on some of the larger races. More sliders can never hurt though, as long as it doesn't go back to 0% after equipping any piece of gear, or varying incredibly wildly similar to the bust slider.

Beat me to it apparently
This is more of a topic asking for the lower body to be restored rather than just a "butt thread".
Sure the butt is part of it but there are a lot of weird things that happened when they reduced the lower body of characters from 1.0->2.0
For example when you wear any form of tights in 2.0 the area on the right leg has a broken Mesh, its harder to see the mesh on smaller races but if you use Female Highlander or Roegadyn its much easier to see.
There are also a lot of lower body clipping on Lalafell and Roegadyn Races when you wear skirts or dresses, in most cases your hips start to show outside the outfit when you move/dance etc, I've made bug reports on all these back in 2014 they went into accepted bugs and just kind of died there.
Off Topic:
I notice a few people talking about hairstyles and clothes so i'll talk a little bit about that as well. I made a few threads in the past about Character Customization, it seems in every patch they release Hairstyles... because I assume... hairstyles are big and flashy. However, there are major problems with the character creator and with how fairly distributed the customization parts are for each race.
For example, female elezen has two faces that are identical to each other. It's the same face just with lipstick and different eyelashes/skin-tone shadings.
This is not fair to this race, especially when you have races like Hyur with 5(female)->6(male) different face options to choose from.
Same Nose, Same Jaw, Same Eyes, Same Mouth
Just Change the skin texture, add lipstick and some long eyelashes...

A lot of races need a lot more eye shapes/noses or even new face shapes. I doubt there are any PS3 Limitations because they always release new hairstyles in every major patch. Hairstyles use up resources more than.. a nose or eyeshape? (who knows)
You guys can moan and sigh "oh not another butt thread" but the problem persists that FFXIV's Character customization/Character Models are unnatural and Cheaply made.
They can give us 1000 more outfits or 100 more hairstyles but In my opinion this is just throwing a band-aid over a large wound.
This is just my opinion but I would much rather they give Quality rather than Quanity
I'd love to have the old models back. It's really bothers me that my tail clips through a piece of gear specifically designed for my race simply because they flattened the back half of the waist/hips, changing the angle at which the tail descends (which is the result of spine modifications I think, but I'm not sure exactly how the frame works). In a game from a developer that generally prides itself on aesthetics (and a game that I play in part because of that pride for aesthetics), it feels really out of place.
And yes, the weird hip/thigh clipping mentioned above happens on numerous races. For miqo'te, it's most noticeable when doing the basic /sit animation.
At the very least, some sort of slider that would allow us to choose between the current waists and the old ones would be greatly appreciated.
Need bigger butts...
I understand people have good intentions but it kind of annoys me a little when people just relate these kind of threads to having a bugger butt and making it much more trivial than it is.
There is absolutely no diversity on body shapes other than the breast slider for most races. The muscle slider isn't even available to most, and even that is barely noticeable. Height is a given. It doesn't help that we are extremely limited with facial options and are forced to have certain markings/colours/horns based on race and gender. For a game this old, the amount of customisation options is getting to be slightly annoying.
Also, I understand this is a Japanese game, and they may not want to implement certain customisation for certain reasons (body hair and weight sliders come to mind) but this is absolutely no excuse for how limited we are.
I think this is a big factor in explaining why our customization seems so limited. Japan specifically has very little bio-diversity among their population, so being slender and having black hair and almond-shaped eyes is the norm, and by a large margin. Living in any European or North American country especially, seeing people of all shapes and sizes, colors and styles, is the norm. Japan, as a general culture, tends to stress more on uniformity and not standing out too much. So it's very possibly that this just isn't important to the developers because to them, they may think that compared to their home culture, we have a ton of options. Whereas in western culture, the options we have aren't very diverse at all, given what we have all grown up around.

Click the image to zoom in, things look normal until you view your characters from the side and then you can see the problem.
http://puu.sh/nQDX1/fb634c5d9e.png
*Note the problem actually goes away if you wear any Skirt or Long Dress, anything else and you get a flat lower body. This however does not apply to the crafting skirts*
For me it's a bit of an immersion problem. Even the most studious of the jobs (Astrologian and Scholar) are undeniably physically fit in this game. The WoL, no matter the class, is constantly doing physical feats that would rival anyone that is of a fitness mindset. Now I suppose that those feats could be contrived of aetheric energy or some other magical means, but the fact remains that our characters are trim and lean (this includes male roegaydn as they have an undeniably low body fat %), so it makes sense that our musculature would support it.
Now, I'm not asking for a server full of hulks, Arnolds, and body builders running around. However, when someone is physically strong and fit there are body proportions that go with that. Larger and lifted gluteus, larger shoulders, defined quadriceps and calves. These are basic building blocks of strength and endurance that are simply not shown in games.... at all.
It's sad to see.
I wonder if it's a cultural thing though. Watching anime and other Japanese media casts characters with muscular structures into very stereotyped roles, so it is probably the likely thing that affects the character body structure that is in the game. Most main characters, regardless of strength, have thin and fashion model type builds (not fitness model they are different).
